Chapter Eighty: Sister Takes You Home

Wang Xueru stepped forward and knocked on the door, and the teacher's reading aloud suddenly stopped.

Wang Ziqian was startled awake, thinking he had been caught dozing off by his teacher. Startled, he straightened up, held the book, and loudly recited, "Confucius said—"

Once she looked closely and saw that it was her older sister standing outside the door, she breathed a sigh of relief and slumped into the armchair.

The gentleman closed the book and said respectfully, "Miss, you've arrived."

Wang Xueru walked to the desk, flicked Wang Ziqian's head twice, and said in feigned anger, "You brat, are you dozing off? If you keep doing this, I'll tell Dad all about you!"

Wang Ziqian hurriedly stood up and pulled Wang Xueru to appease her, saying, "Good sister, I was wrong, please don't tell Dad!"

Sun Miao'er stood by the window and saw that the two siblings got along so well, without the pain of separation or the pressure of making a living.

"Miss Sun, please come in."

Wang Xueru turned around, smiled brightly, her starry eyes sparkling, and waved to Sun Miao'er.

Xiao Ning suddenly raised her head, her pupils widened when she saw the person who entered, and she slowly uttered two words, "Sister—"

"Xiao Ning, your sister has come to see you."

Sun Miao'er had thought of many things to say to Xiao Ning before she came, but when she actually saw him, all she could say for a moment was this.

Xiao Ning was stunned for a long time, her eyes slightly reddening.

This was at the Wang family home, and the head of the household hadn't given any instructions yet. He couldn't do anything but stand there; he couldn't even pounce on his sister.

I can only call out "sister" from afar.

"Xiao Ning, is this your sister?"

Wang Ziqian stood up, circled around Sun Miao'er, and asked.

Sun Miao'er had previously worried about the arrogant and rude young master of the Wang family, but now that she saw him, she realized that the Wang family was not the kind of wealthy gentry who looked down on the poor.

Xiao Ning nodded and said in a low voice, "Yes, my apologies, young master."

Knowing that it was rare for the two of them to meet, and that it might be inconvenient for their master to be here, Wang Xueru said, "Ziqian, Brother Jingnian is here. Let's take him for a walk in the courtyard."

"You two continue your conversation."

After saying that, he didn't forget to call out to Wang Ziqian and led him out of the study.

After the Wang family left, Xiao Ning's expression relaxed considerably. She walked up to Sun Miao'er and asked, "Sister, how did you find your way here?"

Sun Miao'er took his arm, bent down, and repeatedly stroked the stray hairs on Xiao Ning's head. "Sister missed Xiao Ning, so I came to find you."

Even though Xiao Ning had been holding back a lot of grievances in her heart and had learned to let them pass by on her own over the years, she still couldn't help but feel a lump in her throat the moment she saw her sister, and choked out, "Xiao Ning missed her sister too, so much."

Sun Miao'er explained her purpose, "How about I take you home today?"

Xiao Ning was surprised, and stammered, "I need the master's permission to go home..."

Sun Miao'er smiled, her eyes sparkling, and said firmly, "Don't worry, Xiao Ning, I have a plan. Let's go home, and from now on, Xiao Ning can stay with me forever."

The word "home" is so distant and unfamiliar to Sun Xiaoning.

About three or four years ago, he was only five or six years old, just beginning to remember things.

One day, his mother said she was going out and never came back. He was held in his sister's arms, feeling both sad and scared.

His second aunt led the people back and told him to go with them.

He refused. His second aunt said that if he refused, she would have his sister beaten to death, and he would never see his sister again, just like he would never see his mother.

At five or six years old, he had no concept of death; he only knew that he would be very unhappy if he couldn't see his sister, and in the end, he still followed that person.

I've been away for several years, and I can count the number of times I've returned home on one hand.

"Sister, can I... go home now?"

He calmed himself down and asked the question hesitantly.

"kindness!"

His sister's answer was firm and powerful, like a pair of broad hands that gently wrapped around his broken and fragmented heart.

In the garden.

Wang Xue followed Wei Jingnian incessantly. Even though Wei Jingnian was perfunctory in his responses, she hadn't felt this joy in a long time.

"Brother Jingnian, how did you and Miss Sun meet?"

Actually, after saying all that, it all comes back to Sun Miao'er; this is Wang Xueru's little scheme.

Wei Jingnian said frankly, "Miss Sun dyed and wove a garment for my aunt, which was very exquisite. My father is quite interested in this kind of thing and wants me to learn the craft from her."

"Oh?" Wang Xueru exclaimed, her eyebrows arching in surprise, "Miss Sun comes from the countryside, yet she has such skills? Besides, what kind of fine goods hasn't Uncle Wei seen? Why would he be interested in her craftsmanship?"

Wei Jingnian nodded and said seriously, "Hey! Xue Ru, you really underestimate her. You said it yourself, my father has traveled all over the country and seen a lot, so he naturally wouldn't be wrong. My aunt's clothes are absolutely gorgeous, even the cloth shops in Pingnan City can't compare."

"Is it really that powerful?"

Wang Xueru couldn't help but be curious as he spoke in such a fantastical way.

"I'll show you next time I have the chance."

As Wei Jingnian spoke, he walked around the long corridor and encountered a servant coming towards him.

The servant cupped his hands and said, "Young Master Wei, my master requests your presence."

Wang Xueru was about to follow, but then she heard the servant say, "Master has instructed that Miss, you should not come along."

Wei Jingnian took a step forward, then turned and stopped Wang Xueru, advising, "Aru, just listen to Uncle Wang this once."

In the front hall, Master Wang sat upright. He was extremely wealthy, but like the Wei family, he also hoped that someone in his family could become an official and bring glory to the family.

Seeing Wei Jingnian come through the cave entrance, Master Wang stood up, paced back and forth, and said in a deep voice, "Jingnian, does your father know about this?"

"Uncle Wang, what do you mean by this?"

Wei Jingnian asked, puzzled.

Master Wang stroked his short beard, his face full of worry, and said earnestly, "Jingnian, if you want to please a woman, why go to such lengths? Besides, with her background, how are you a good match for her? Do you intend to make her your official wife?"

He knew that his daughter was deeply in love with Wei Jingnian, a feeling that had lasted since childhood, and that the two families had been friends for generations. He would never agree to let his precious daughter be ruined because of such a country girl!

Wei Jingnian chuckled and shook his head, saying, "Uncle Wang, you've misunderstood. My relationship with Miss Sun isn't what you think."

In his haste, Master Wang assumed that Wei Jingnian was desperately trying to cover up his secret for fear of being exposed. "Tell me," he said, "if it weren't that kind of relationship, would you send a letter to my mansion overnight for her? A servant is no big deal. If you want, you can take three or five from our mansion without any problem. But if it's for a girl like this, your father would probably be heartbroken if he found out!"

“Master Wang, it was my father who sent me to befriend Miss Sun,” Wei Jingnian replied truthfully. “Miss Sun is exceptionally talented, skilled in dyeing and weaving. You know my father best; he wants to understand the ins and outs of this field, but he's too proud to ask, so he had me go.”
