"Master, I'm scared."
The person with a high fever suddenly began to murmur.
Fu Yuchi suddenly woke up. He hadn't slept all night. He had fed her medicine, dried her clothes, and, fearing any unforeseen complications, had been sitting by her side watching over her.
I didn't close my eyes until dawn.
He was awakened from her sleep by her babbling in no time, and his tone was even a little doting, "Little Miao'er, don't be afraid, I'm here."
He quietly placed his hand on the back of her hand, trying to give her a sense of security.
“Master…” Sun Miao’er moved her fingers, her lips moved, her eyelids felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, and she opened them several times before she finally did.
But what I saw was my master.
It wasn't a dream after all. That warm embrace belonged to my master, and the scent of medicine wasn't just my imagination. It really was my master who saved me.
Now, besides being unable to repay the debt of gratitude to my teacher, I also have the debt of gratitude for saving my life.
Fu Yuchi removed the gauze from her forehead and rinsed it with cold water. "Don't talk."
He brought in the freshly brewed medicine from outside and handed it to her, saying, "Sit up and drink it slowly."
Sun Miao'er tried to pull herself up by holding onto the edge of the bed, but almost fell off. Her body was too weak and light, and she couldn't muster any strength. Fortunately, Fu Yuchi caught her in time.
Sun Miao'er was stunned. Had she just fallen into her master's arms like that? Was it intentional?
She was indeed attracted to her master's good looks, but she wouldn't resort to seduction!
Sun Miao'er moved back slightly, her face flushed, and her voice was flustered, "Master, I can do it myself."
She picked up the bowl of medicine, hastily took a sip, and found it incredibly bitter. It made her frown and wish she could pinch her nose to drink it.
"Good medicine tastes bitter but is good for the disease." But Fu Yuchi had no intention of giving her that chance. The moment she resisted taking the medicine, he refused her in a rather serious tone.
Sun Miao'er forced herself to drink the medicine in the bowl. After a while, she felt much better. Before, her head felt heavy, as if filled with stones, and her neck was also extremely sore.
Sun Miao'er had a lot of questions she wanted to ask, but didn't know where to begin. "Master, where is Wu Dali?"
“I didn’t see him. I remembered I hadn’t given you something, so when I chased after him, I found the wheat field was on fire,” Fu Yuchi explained in a low voice.
Sun Miao'er nodded. "Hmm, I see." She didn't know how to explain this to her master: Wu Dali had ulterior motives towards her? And so she wanted to die with him?
It's really hard to talk about.
Sun Miao'er remained silent for a long time before stammering, "Master, Wu Dali has designs on me. I dragged him into the water. Do you think he might drown?"
As she finished speaking, she made a throat-slitting gesture, implying that her actions were self-defense and shouldn't be considered manslaughter.
Seeing her slightly flustered appearance, Fu Yuchi said directly, "No, at most he drowned himself."
"That's good." Sun Miao'er breathed a sigh of relief, only then realizing that she hadn't gone home all night, and that her grandmother and Xiaoman must be worried again.
Fu Yuchi saw through her thoughts at a glance. "I have already sent someone to the Sun family to inform them that you are at the medicine shop."
"Thank you, Master." Sun Miao'er smiled. In her unconscious state, she seemed to hear someone calling her Little Miao'er. Could it be her Master? But who else could it be but her Master?
A dramatic scene was unfolding in her mind, and she couldn't help but steal a glance at her master before quickly interrupting her wild thoughts.
How could her master be such a person?! Besides, her master called her Little Miao'er; she still couldn't bear to think about it!
The village of Fushui outside was in an uproar.
The wheat field that burned last night belonged to Granny Li. The fire spread with the wind and reached the riverbank. By the time the villagers arrived to put out the fire, half of the wheat field had been reduced to ashes.
Granny Li slumped to the ground, crying and making a scene, but now she felt utterly hopeless.
This was no small matter. Village Chief Li rushed over and saw the desolate scene before him. "How could a fire have broken out out of nowhere!"
"Village chief, how are we supposed to live like this!" Granny Li was already losing sleep over not being able to pay her land rent this year, and now half of her land had been burned down. Wouldn't that mean the death of her entire family?
Old Li shook his head. "This place is far from the village; it must be a natural disaster!"
"What kind of disaster is this!" Granny Li wailed helplessly. "My family has been from Fushui Village for generations, and we've never heard of any heavenly fire before. Who is the heartless bastard who wants to kill this old woman and burns down my land? Village chief, you must help me! Cousin, you must help me! Otherwise, I'll jump into this river today; I can't live anyway!"
Village Chief Li quickly stepped forward to stop her, "Young lady, please don't do anything foolish! I will give you an explanation for this, and I will also give an explanation for our Fushui Village!"
Village Chief Li called over two young men from the village and asked, "Where's Wu Dali?"
"I don't know, village chief. I didn't see him this morning."
Village Chief Li sighed, "I thought he was someone useful! I didn't expect him to be such a good-for-nothing!"
Normally, Wu Dali would follow Li around like a shadow, eager to be at the village chief's house before dawn, but today he was nowhere to be seen.
"You two, go to each household in the village and tell everyone who's home to come here, young and old alike. If they can't get out of bed, have their family members carry them here!"
This matter concerns the livelihood of Fushui Village, so Old Man Li can't afford to be careless this time.
Even Grandma Sun was called over. She led Xiaoman and saw a huge crowd of villagers gathered in front of them. "What's going on?"
"Oh, nothing's happened yet? Look at Granny Li's wheat field, half of it was burned down last night. Village Chief Li is checking on people!"
Grandma Sun nodded, holding Xiaoman's hand tightly, afraid that someone might touch her. In the morning, Doctor Fu sent someone with a message saying that Miao'er had stayed at the medicine hut last night, and that she could rest assured.
But how could she feel at ease? This Doctor Fu seemed like a gentleman. Could it be that he was trying to deceive Miao'er? She dared not think further, but she also felt that Miao'er was a smart girl who had overcome so many difficulties. She shouldn't be easily deceived. Perhaps she really did learn too late.
Moreover, the medicine shop is far from the Sun family's house, and it's inconvenient to travel there after dark.
"How many people are in your family? Are they all here?" A young man held the village's population register and carefully checked the age of each household's members.
Finally, it was Grandma Sun's turn. She asked impatiently, "Where's your granddaughter? Didn't the notice say she was in Fushui Village? Why didn't she come?"
"She went out this morning and hasn't come back yet," Grandma Sun replied kindly.
The man didn't say anything and let the grandmother and granddaughter leave first.
"You're talking nonsense! She didn't even come home last night!" Jin's shrill voice came from behind. She'd finally caught her in the act; that girl was probably up to some petty theft!
