Chapter 109 Visitation
The two looked at each other across the rain.
After two breaths of silence, Song Lingyi slowly shook her head: "I'd better go there myself. I have to find something to do."
Pei Zhao smiled faintly: "In that case, I won't persuade you any further. If you have any difficulties, you can come to the government office to find me."
After the two carriages briefly met, they each drove off in different directions.
Unlike other government offices, the Zhenfu Division is an existence that all Kyoto officials avoid. The plaque with gold letters on a black background on the door alone exudes an awe-inspiring majesty.
The winter wind was bleak and the cold air swept across the long street. The rain was getting heavier and heavier, splashing a lot of water on the ground.
The master and servant stood in the rain, holding an umbrella. Their skirts quickly became wet. Even though Song Lingyi was wearing a white fur coat, she couldn't help but shiver. Her face turned pale and her nose red.
"Miss, why don't we go back?" Hongqi said.
I just sent someone in to report, but no one came out after such a long time. Most likely, there is no further news.
"Wait a little longer." Song Lingyi insisted with a frown.
After waiting for about a quarter of an hour, a burst of hurried and vigorous footsteps was heard from inside the gate of the Zhenfu Division.
Xuanfeng hurried out and saw the people standing at the door. He was shocked and cursed those bastards inwardly for being so ignorant and coming to report so late.
"Miss Ali, why are you here?"
Song Lingyi raised her eyes, smiled and said, "I came to see you."
Xuanfeng raised his eyebrows, obviously not believing it.
"...and visit my cousin."
That's right.
"You've already seen me. I'm so busy with official duties, immersed in the government hall every day, that even drinking and eating meat have become luxuries. As for the young master..."
Xuan Feng glanced at the things the master and servant were carrying and looked embarrassed. "Not to mention that the Imperial Prison is full of evil spirits, it's not suitable for a girl like you to go in. This young master has committed a crime and the case is still under investigation. It's not appropriate for me to let you in to visit him."
"We have known each other for so long. Let's not be partial to each other. Just help me. I will treat you to wine and meat some other day." Song Lingyi smiled sweetly and flatteringly.
Xuanfeng hardened his heart and remained silent for a long time, but he couldn't resist Song Lingyi's pitiful little expression, so he finally compromised.
"Okay, okay, just this once, but only one person can go in. Who of you two is going in?"
"I'm going in!"
Song Lingyi took the food box from Hongju's hand without hesitation, and carried large and small bags of things in both hands, as if she was rushing to catch a train during the Spring Festival travel rush.
Xuanfeng considerately shared the burden with her and only asked her to carry the lighter food box.
With the deputy commander leading the way, the journey was smooth.
The prison was chilly and damp, with torches burning on either side of the stone walls. Her delicately embroidered shoes felt sticky against the floor, almost like they could feel the blood putty accumulated over the years.
Most of the prisoners in the prison are criminals. Various torture instruments are hung on the stone walls. Tortures continue day and night, and the air is filled with wailing and screaming. Anyone without courage would not be able to survive even a quarter of an hour here.
As soon as I got down to the cell, several jailers came to greet me.
"Sir, if you want to interrogate someone, just tell me. Why did you come down here in person?"
Xuan Feng didn't waste any words and said solemnly, "Where is the young master being held? Lead the way."
The jailer responded quickly and led the two men deeper into the cell.
Unlike in movies and TV shows where people would rush to their doorsteps and protest their innocence, the prisoners here were covered in blood and lifeless, lying in their cells, unable to tell whether they were dead or alive. No matter how glorious these people had been, once they entered the imperial prison, they were nothing but a pile of flesh and blood, at the mercy of others.
The corridor was narrow, and Song Lingyi only took a glance and didn't dare to look any further.
Soon, the jailer led her to the outside of a cell.
This cell was particularly spacious. Unlike other cells that used straw as mats, it had a wooden bed. The environment was simple, but relatively clean and tidy.
Lu Qian, who was imagined to be suffering, was now "enslaving" a jailer to clean the floor. The wealthy young master thought the floor was too dirty and couldn't stand on it.
"There, there, wipe it again, clean it."
Knock knock——
Xuan Feng had a cold face and knocked on the cell door, and the sound of chains colliding was crisp.
The jailer who was mopping the floor raised his head and suddenly saw the deputy commander outside the cell, and his back trembled with fear.
"He is a criminal, is it necessary to treat him like this? Come out quickly." Xuanfeng said.
It seems that the Pacification Office invited back a giant Buddha and was eager to serve him without any manners.
The candlelight in the cell was dim.
Lu Qian sat on the wooden bed with his legs bent, like a slovenly old man. He raised his head slightly and caught a glimpse of a familiar figure through the gap in the cell bars. His body stiffened slightly, and he slowly sat up.
Xuan Feng put the bags on the ground and said to the girl beside him, "You only have a quarter of an hour. You can't go in. If you have anything to say, just say it outside. I'll wait in the interrogation room and come to take you out when the time comes."
"Thank you, Brother Xuanfeng." Song Lingyi smiled and thanked him.
In a moment, she was the only one left in the corridor outside the cell, and it was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
The 'master' sitting on the wooden bed had an awkward expression on his face. He walked over slowly, leaned lazily against the bars, and said in a muffled voice, "Why are you here?"
Song Lingyi took a deep breath, and didn't tell him that her aunt was ill, for fear that he would worry.
"Come and see how badly you've been beaten." She pursed her lips. "Here, in case you're injured and can't eat, the food in the lunch box is all liquid."
"Oh, now that I've seen it, let's go back quickly." Lu Qian turned sideways, instinctively not wanting her to see his current embarrassing appearance.
"I finally got in, and you don't have anything to say?" Song Lingyi glared at him.
"What's there to say? You saw it all. They can't do anything to me until the matter is clarified." Lu Qian's eyelids drooped, and he still looked confused.
"Did you earn the tourmaline bracelet from selling spices?" Song Lingyi asked.
Lu Qian hummed lazily, as if thinking of something, and added, "But I don't sell banned incense. That stuff is not clean."
He would not use dirty money to buy things for her.
"I know." Song Lingyi lowered her eyes and responded lightly.
As a young master, there is no need for you to do such things.
Lu Qian raised his eyelids slightly, like a wolf with its tail curled up, and the girl's face was faintly reflected in his deep black eyes.
"What do you know?"
"I guess someone as rebellious as you would definitely not do those shady business. Even if you wanted to, you wouldn't be stupid enough to let others catch you easily." Song Lingyi said softly.
The two pairs of eyes looked at each other closely in the darkness. Song Lingyi's unconditional trust made Lu Qian's eyes darken instantly.
"Do you really believe me?"
After this incident, even his father might not believe him.
Song Lingyi was too lazy to waste time talking to him. With only a quarter of an hour left, she had to get down to business. "Do you know who framed you?"
Lu Qian lowered his eyes and clenched his jaw.
Who else could it be? Most likely that dead fish-faced guy, who framed him to avenge the drugging. He just accepted the blame.
"have no idea."
