Book III Laplace's Demon
The torrential rain continued relentlessly, and night fell over the city below.
Amidst the rolling dark clouds, a sudden "crack" of lightning illuminated every gloomy corner of the city.
The air was damp, and in the bumpy alley, water flowed from high to low, gathering at the tightly blocked sewer openings.
Rainwater dripped down, seeping through cracks and flowing into the filthy underground world.
The crisscrossing pipes are the city's arteries, carrying garbage bags, excrement, plastic bottles, and animal carcasses.
The stench was unbearable.
The whole world was wet, swept up by this torrential rain.
In the brightly lit city, people hurriedly took shelter under the eaves, and in the dead of night, apart from the occasional passing vehicle, the only other thing was to stay indoors.
There were very few people walking on the street with umbrellas.
The rain at the end of summer is always so unrestrained and arrogant, with the momentum to submerge the whole world, mixed with gale and lightning, drenching everything thoroughly.
It was as if they wanted to feed the parched earth all at once.
Jiang Cheng saw a gray pigeon with raindrops on its feathers under the eaves outside the building. There was a bright blue under its wing. He wondered which family in the community kept it.
A full month has passed since the scientific research summit. He and Professor Chen and Professor Zhong stayed in Ozhou for a period of time, exchanging ideas with many scientific researchers before returning home with a wealth of knowledge.
I got to experience the local scenery and culture of the research island.
Let's go back to Lanjing Huanjiang Community.
Unlike before, the whole house had become empty and desolate.
The room was filled with traces of Luo Xiaoli and his life together.
She made a small nest out of old clothes so that her cat could rest on the sofa wherever it wanted.
On the balcony, there are several potted plants that are lush and green.
A smiley face was drawn with soapy water on the glass behind the curtains in Jiangcheng while doing laundry.
Inside the refrigerator, Luo Xiaoli tried to make a cake but ended up with a dough ball that looked completely different from what she expected, but she couldn't bear to throw it away.
In the drawer of her pink room, there was a sketch: a long-haired girl hugging her brother's neck and closing her eyes happily.
Everything and everything.
Jiang Cheng saw this and a feeling of sadness instantly welled up in his heart.
People usually only learn to cherish things after they lose them; what was once within their grasp has now become a luxury.
He wanted to call Luo Xiaoli, but she must be busy right now. After all, his uncle had just been discharged from the hospital and needed someone to take care of him.
Jiang Cheng thought for a moment, then just as he picked up his phone, he put it down again.
So far, he has completed three tasks assigned by the system and has also taken a break.
Jiang Cheng was still somewhat unsure about which direction to choose for his next mission.
Besides the ultimate goal of making the country strong, you also need to have a genuine passion for scientific research.
Just as Jiang Cheng is fond of the medical field, he has great enthusiasm when conducting research on gene reagents.
The same applies to controlled nuclear fusion. As a major problem that has remained unsolved for decades, he couldn't help but feel excited about solving such problems.
Upon realizing this, Jiang Cheng closed his eyes, and a valley filled with wildflowers immediately appeared in his mind.
Before us stood the increasingly vibrant technology tree, its trunk growing thicker, its branches and leaves lush and verdant, and the light emanating from it becoming more magnificent.
He looked in amazement at the tree, which represented the collective efforts of generations of scientists.
How many researchers must have dedicated themselves to building such a towering tree of science and technology?
Now, it seems that because he has solved the problem of controlled nuclear fusion in the current world, he has injected some new vitality into it.
"Rustle..."
Just as Jiang Cheng was pondering, a rustling sound came from the tree canopy. He noticed it keenly and looked up sharply.
There was no breeze in the valley, so how could the leaves be rustling?
Is there something alive?
Curious, he clung to the thick tree trunk and looked up at the center of the canopy. Suddenly, a blurry shadow appeared among the layers of green leaves.
Jiang Cheng was startled. There was actually a living being inside this towering tree in the spiritual world, which was interdependent with the system?
He observed more closely and discovered that the animal leaping among the trees had a bushy, squirrel-like tail, and when it paused occasionally, its grayish-brown fur gleamed faintly. At first glance, it looked like a cat, but since its face wasn't visible, it seemed larger than a cat. Then, as if sensing someone watching, the creature abruptly turned its head to look down. Jiang Cheng's eyes met itss instantly, and he saw its true form clearly.
While it resembles a cat, its plump cheeks and fur actually make it look more like a leopard. It has some black spots on its forehead, long whiskers, and pale yellow eyes. When Jiang Cheng stares into the cat's pupils, he feels a dizzying sensation as if he is drawn into them. They seem to contain countless depths, yet there is no emotional fluctuation in its eyes.
It stared straight at Jiang Cheng, without opening its mouth.
But a voice rang in his ears.
"You can't change anything."
The creature spoke, and its first words left him completely bewildered.
"What?"
It lazily lay on the tree trunk, then stood up to stretch its slender body, its tail held high, and casually walked to a fruit.
Take a bite and swallow it.
The fruit, named after the recently discovered Ruishi deep-sea diving record, disappeared from the tree.
