He had a lot to do, and the entire meticulous plan had to be carried out step by step, so Jiang Cheng dared not be negligent in the slightest.
And so, time slowly passed...
It seemed like only a blink of an eye before the sky gradually darkened. The temperature difference between day and night in the Northwest Gobi Desert is extreme, and there was already a wind blowing outside that made people shiver.
In this desolate place, Shui Ting stayed in her room at night.
She had heard Jiang Cheng mention the brain-like project before, but the details could not be conveyed through description.
The document held in Shui Ting's slender fingers contained Jiang Cheng's mind map, experimental procedures, basic theories, and so on. As one of the world's most outstanding geniuses, she certainly had the ability to decipher this top-secret document.
As she flipped through the pages, she became more and more engrossed and amazed.
Because, to put it bluntly, Jiang Cheng's theories are far beyond the existing world; these things seem to be out of place in this era.
Throughout history, we can see that the more chaotic the times, the more exceptionally talented individuals emerge. They become leaders, overcoming obstacles and bringing peace to the land, leaving their mark on history. Conversely, stable dynasties rarely produce such extraordinary geniuses. Jiang Cheng will undoubtedly become a unique leader in the scientific community—this is Shui Ting's intuition. The rise of a great power is an indispensable and exciting part of chaotic times; how much assistance can Jiang Cheng provide in this process?
After reading the document, Shui Ting unconsciously placed it on the cold floor, her mind preoccupied with a crucial question.
This question could almost determine the success or failure of the brain-like project, and it's something that Jiangcheng's mind map didn't take into account.
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking.
Shen Yiran arrived at the laboratory early and carefully observed the process diagram of the entire plan written with a marker.
The words "Mizutani Yumi," highlighted in red, caught her attention. She had never heard of this person before; Jiang Cheng had only mentioned that she was an experimental subject, and the template for the bionic material was Miss Mizutani's brain. The reason she could become the host was that there was no one more suitable than her in the world, and her intelligence was exceptionally high.
Shen Yiran was very curious about what kind of person this person was who was called "the most suitable host" in Jiangcheng.
This curiosity was quickly answered, as the researchers entered and began setting up the equipment, each with a clear division of labor. Following the template provided by Jiang Cheng, they connected the tubing to a large, transparent container. On the other side was a sealed, space capsule-like structure. Inside the capsule was an electronic screen that would only operate based on input commands after being closed.
Jiangcheng was prepared for a protracted struggle. Building a simulated brain with independent thinking, capable of responding to various conditions, was no easy task. Plants need to grow, flower, and bear fruit. Similarly, the brain evolves from infancy to adulthood, and thinking patterns are trained throughout this process. Neurons will proliferate to a saturated number, at which point the ultimate goal will be achieved.
Chen Ang stared intently at the four irregularly shaped biomimetic forms inside the jar. They were currently devoid of meaning, but what about in ten days, twenty days? Perhaps this mass would begin to respond to external conditions, or reflect necessary conditions. At that point, it would be something capable of mimicking human thought, processing most computational information, and never feeling fatigued.
The shortcomings of modern computers are quite obvious. Simulating the brain combines the concepts of quantum computers and the human brain.
In the future, humanity will face countless unforeseen circumstances. We cannot overcome the limits of the physical body, nor can we allow machines to ascend to immortality through physical suffering—this raises ethical issues. Therefore, we need more advanced intelligence to replace human labor. As intelligent beings, we should empower machines, not allow them to enslave us.
What would be the best kind of machine, as envisioned? It would be an individual that unconditionally obeys human commands, ensures the great development and progress of the race, and can be replicated. It would have no emotions, no resistance, no life, and no love.
Attempts to simulate the brain are a necessary technological process.
In many situations with limited capabilities, humans cannot directly participate physically, as exemplified by manned spaceflight programs, which inherently carry certain risks. If we are to eventually leave Earth and observe the entire universe, machines incorporating brain-like simulations will certainly be helpful.
"Check all the procedures again, report on the stability of the RBN material, ensure the cabin pressure and temperature are at the optimal level to prevent host discomfort, and is the connection chip ready?"
"Reporting to Dean Jiang, we are keeping a close eye on Wan Xingyan's situation. We will hand him over as soon as the research and development is successful."
"Well, since there are no problems, let's invite Miss Mizutani over first."
Upon hearing his words, Shen Yiran raised an eyebrow, and the other researchers also glanced up before continuing their work. It seemed that Shen wasn't the only one curious; everyone wanted to see what was so special about this genius with an IQ of 177.
The laboratory was completely soundproof. Through the assistant, the prison guard contacted them. Gu Qingwan responded and, hearing that Shui Ting was already outside, got up to open the door.
The door slowly opened, and Mizutani Yumi, wearing plain flat shoes and a light blue long-sleeved dress, stepped in. Her first appearance was stunning, immediately drawing everyone's attention. Shen Yiran's first impression was one of shock. She didn't know how to describe the woman's appearance; she seemed quite old, yet her skin showed no signs of aging. Or perhaps it could be said that Mizutani's aura, the look in her eyes, conveyed a sense of world-weariness, but her face did not.
