Chapter 146 One Flew Over the Asylum (Part 5)

Call the police!

This was Zhao Xuerou's first thought. She stood there in shock for a long time. The car disappeared around the corner, but she still stared at that strange intersection, her mind constantly recalling the expression of the boy who had been kidnapped.

She didn't know what had happened, but how could a normal person be tied up?

There must be something strange about this.

Zhao Xuerou immediately pulled out her phone, ready to dial the police, but she stared blankly at the black screen for several seconds... Damn it! She had taken pictures of the scenery all the way here, and had just been taking pictures of acacia trees for a long time, and the battery was dead.

Zhao Xuerou stood on those steps for a long time, looking back in the direction she came from, then gazing at the bend deeper into the path. She was hesitating, considering something.

Anyone with a brain would know that the people in the car who kidnapped the girl must have been vicious criminals. Let alone a female college student, even several adult men might not dare to interfere.

After making up her mind, Zhao Xuerou started walking back towards Lanjing city. If she could find a car in this godforsaken suburb, she could probably get a ride. With that thought in mind, she left.

However, ten minutes later, Zhao Xuerou reappeared at the bottom of the steps. She still couldn't overcome her own heart; this girl was ultimately kind, even though she had many flaws, was willful and arrogant, but wasn't inherently bad.

Go take a look and find out what's going on. Then, run back to Lanjing and call the police. Maybe this action can save a life.

Zhao Xuerou no longer hesitated, tentatively turning off the sloping path leading to the artificial hill and walking deeper into the area...

She crossed a low-lying area overgrown with weeds. The soil was damp, probably because it had just rained, making her clean white shoes feel heavy. As winter was approaching, there were withered grass stubble everywhere, and mosquitoes were flying around haphazardly. There were two clear tire tracks on the ground, stretching straight into the distance.

Zhao Xuerou cautiously surveyed her surroundings, but her worries seemed unnecessary; there wasn't a single person in sight, only sparrows and insects.

In fact, right behind her, watching her intently, was Luo Xiaoli.

Xiao Li was very puzzled. Wasn't it enough to just hang a wooden sign on the acacia tree? Why was this man surnamed Zhao going further in? The scenery was becoming increasingly desolate, making her feel vaguely afraid.

Zhao Xuerou climbed to a slightly higher place and immediately saw the abandoned factory building standing in a wasteland. The tire tracks disappeared outside the factory building, which basically confirmed that they had disappeared inside.

Now that things had come to this point, there was absolutely no possibility of regret. At this moment, various murder scenes from movies, dismemberment, kidnapping, and the like were already flooding the young girl's mind. Even the wind blowing in seemed to get colder, and Zhao Xuerou began to shiver.

She took a deep breath to calm herself, and started walking around the front of the factory building. On the side of the dilapidated wall, there was a stack of red bricks that had been there for who knows how many years. The erosion from wind and sun had made the surface of the bricks pitted and uneven, and beetles had made their homes in the holes.

Zhao Xuerou found a suitable spot. Luckily, she was wearing sweatpants; if she had been wearing a skirt or something, it would have been difficult to climb.

With a push of her legs, a soft rustling sound came from beneath her feet, indicating that she had crushed the insect eggs on the red bricks. She then successfully climbed to the top, where she could see the inside of the factory from her tiptoes.

The first thing that catches the eye is a concrete ground, houses with simple iron roofs, and a pickup truck parked in an open space, its mud tracks standing out against the gray ground.

The commotion immediately attracted Zhao Xuerou's attention. She shifted her gaze nervously toward the source of the noise, where several burly men and a doctor in a white coat stood. Since they weren't far away, she listened intently and could vaguely make out what they were saying.

"My parents brought me here, you can't treat me like this! Let me go back!"

"Now that they've handed you over, you can't do whatever they want with you. We've taken the money, and we're not going to let you go back unless we teach you a lesson. Just behave yourself and don't bother. We've seen far more stubborn people than you."

"Go to hell! What kind of bullshit correctional facility is this? Wasn't it supposed to be a great place? Let me go!"

Zhao Xuerou only noticed his appearance after hearing the boy's cursing. He was a guy with side-swept bangs who looked quite unruly. This was probably the type of hooligan you could see everywhere on the street.

The man with the buzz cut sneered twice as he held the boy. During the struggle, the boy's jacket came off, revealing the tattoo lines and cigarette burns on his arm. He was indeed a reckless guy.

"All set up." The man standing next to him stretched his limbs, casually pulled out a steel pipe from the side, and with his eyes fixed on the back of the boy's neck, he brought it down with a steady and ruthless blow without any warning!

Just this once!

The cursing stopped abruptly, and the entire factory fell silent as the boy lost consciousness.

Then, the doctor led a large group of children dressed in uniform out of the dimly lit tin shack. The older ones were twenty years old, and the younger ones were only fifteen or sixteen. Their eyes were vacant, like those of mental patients. They were coaxed into the courtyard by the medical staff.

As Zhao Xuerou stared at the scene, a surgical procedure that had once shocked the world suddenly came to mind.

Lobotomy.

The patients in these mental hospitals or juvenile detention centers right now look exactly the same as those in the photos! They are almost indistinguishable.

She never imagined that in the 21st century, there would still be private institutions brazenly engaging in such heinous acts, using the guise of disciplining teenagers and treating mental patients to secretly take these individuals to remote suburbs for electroshock, abuse, and surgery.
