Chapter 161 The Warmest Place

As dusk approached, they got up and walked out of the alley. Having finished their business for the day, they decided not to linger and prepared to go home.

When the car reached downtown Lanjing, Luo Xiaoli suddenly said she didn't want to go back so early and wanted to stay outside a little longer. Jiang Cheng glanced at her in surprise, and although he didn't know why, he agreed to go with her.

As soon as Jiang Cheng got out of the car, a gust of cold wind blew directly into his clothes through his neck. As dusk fell, the temperature dropped even lower, causing Jiang Cheng to wrap his clothes up even tighter.

He wasn't dressed very warmly, and while the wind wasn't bitterly cold in the sunlight during the day, it was now forcing people to shiver.

Jiang Cheng narrowed his eyes. He was not far from the residential area. He was standing on Huanjiang Road. Once he crossed this intersection, he would be able to see the magnificent Changhuan River.

Luo Xiaoli herself didn't know why she insisted on getting out of the car and walking this distance. Perhaps it was because she felt a sense of unreality, like a dream, and wanted to use the warmth outside to force herself to be clearer and distinguish between reality and dreams.

What Jiang Cheng didn't know was that Luo Xiaoli sometimes felt scared when she had nightmares at night. She would suddenly wake up in the quiet, dark night, then hurriedly grab her phone to look at the photos, finding sweet pictures of the two of them in her album.

Only after reading it will the anxiety in my heart be slightly relieved.

She truly loves Jiangcheng. The seed that had been buried in her heart for over a decade has now blossomed and borne fruit. She is terrified that she might wake up to find it was all just a dream.

This feeling is called: being anxious about gains and losses.

Half a year has passed, and the two have left behind many sweet memories of happiness. If they could go back to the time when they buried that love in their hearts, Luo Xiaoli felt that those days would be unimaginably torturous.

She didn't even know how she got there.

Because I love so much, losing it would be a devastating disaster.

Today I met Jiang Cheng's parents, in a completely different capacity than before. This signifies that Jiang Cheng has already made up his mind about this matter, and he truly treats Luo Xiaoli as his future wife.

This is good. When Luo Xiaoli turns her head when Jiang Cheng isn't looking, she always feels a lump in her throat and almost cries.

In fact, not all efforts yield results, and most love stories have a tragic ending. When Luo Xiaoli reads romance novels, she often feels sad for the characters in the books.

But now, she's terrified that she might become one of the characters in the book.

Thinking this, Xiao Li looked up at Jiang Cheng, only to find that Jiang Cheng had also lowered his head. He grabbed her hand and led her towards the stall at the street corner.

In contrast to the chilly air, in this secluded corner, a vendor wrapped in a cotton coat and wearing dark gloves was pouring freshly roasted chestnuts from a stone pot onto an iron plate.

In an instant, a fragrant steam warmed one's cheeks.

"Boss, a bag of roasted chestnuts, please."

"Okay."

After Jiang Cheng paid, he took the goods from the vendor, bent down, opened Xiao Li's slender, slightly pale hands, and warmed the steaming roasted chestnuts in her hands.

A few seconds later, the warmth spread, and they continued walking.

Jiang Cheng had never learned these little details in a relationship. All his care was based on liking someone, and it was involuntary; he would think of them whenever he saw them.

Unbeknownst to Luo Xiaoli, just as she couldn't help but rub her hands slightly in the cold, Jiang Cheng stared at her pale hands, wondering how to make her feel better.

Don't be afraid of the cold, I'm here for you this winter.

Walk across the street and come to the bench they often pass by.

At this moment, the horizon appeared gray and hazy. I don't know if it was because the clouds were too chaotic or if a hazy fog suddenly rose in the distance. Looking up, everything seemed blurry and unreal, as if this world was an illusion, and another reality was oppressing it.

This forces such realities to become increasingly rare.

Along the Changhuan River, dozens of weeping willows stand in the wind but cannot sway, because their leaves have completely withered, leaving only bare branches.

Luo Xiaoli gazed at the Changhuan River, which occasionally rippled.

She suddenly said, "Brother, let's stay together forever, okay?"

The sound rang in his ears, and Jiang Cheng was slightly taken aback.

"Otherwise what?"

Luo Xiaoli turned her head, her eyes filled with countless emotions. She didn't speak, but the smile on her lips said it all.

Go experience it all, from the radiant age of eighteen to the depths of old age. Even with graying temples, hold each other's hands and be like the calm, unassuming old folks standing at the door of a well in the streets and alleys.

Birds circled on the opposite bank of the river, and a wooden pavilion stood on a wide platform next to exercise equipment. There were few people there, probably because it wasn't time to go for a walk yet.

Jiang Cheng stared intently at the bird. He was silent; silence was necessary. He knew Luo Xiaoli beside him was lost in thought, but he let her think what she wanted. All he needed to do was quietly stay by her side.

"Are you cold?" Luo Xiaoli suddenly asked.

"A little." Jiang Cheng sniffed. He wasn't wearing many clothes when he went out, and because he was quite thin, he wasn't very resistant to the cold.

After hearing this, Xiao Li loosened her scarf slightly. He thought she was going to put the scarf on him, but she didn't.

Without a word, Luo Xiaoli pulled Jiang Cheng's hand over. Under his surprised and puzzled gaze, she tugged at the collar of her white sweater and carefully placed Jiang Cheng's cold hand inside.

This action instantly blanked his mind, almost causing him to lose all ability to think.

He never imagined that Xiao Li would warm him up in this way. The next second, Jiang Cheng felt an unbelievable softness, and his hand was placed in a very inappropriate position.

It almost instantly dispelled the unbearable cold, and my hands gradually regained feeling.

Luo Xiaoli initially looked distressed, because her hands, exposed to the air for so long, felt like ice cubes. She shivered, but persisted. That was just her personality—stubborn and persistent.

After a few minutes, having probably adjusted to her temperature, a strange feeling came over Jiang Cheng. He felt a little embarrassed, and Luo Xiaoli blushed at this moment.

Although the dusk was dark and there was no sunset glow, a sunset glow appeared on her cheeks.

This young girl is the most precious gift that fate has bestowed upon Jiangcheng.

They stood on the shore, and a bird rested on a bench behind them, fluttering its gray wings, seemingly also watching this beautiful scene.

Luo Xiaoli whispered to Jiang Cheng, "Did you touch it? Just a little further in is my heart, the warmest place on my body."
