"Hello everyone, welcome to the weather forecast. Today is Wednesday, December 15th. Tonight and tomorrow, it will be cloudy turning partly cloudy, with a low of -7 degrees Celsius. There is a possibility of light snowfall..."
When the evening weather forecast program started, Jiang Cheng picked up Luo Xiaoli at the entrance of Lanjing College. She was a little late because of some things that happened in her class.
As soon as Jiang Cheng opened the car door, he felt a gust of cold wind rush in. Luo Xiaoli had been outside for too long and wasn't dressed very warmly, so she was covered in cold air, and her small nose was red from the cold.
Jiang Cheng grabbed her hand and put it in his arms. Luo Xiaoli immediately turned into a clingy little thing. In the eyes of her classmates, she was aloof and unsmiling, but in front of Jiang Cheng, she did her best to be a well-behaved little cat.
She kept rubbing her cheek against Jiang Cheng's shoulder, smiling brightly in his doting gaze.
Sitting in the driver's seat, Gu Qingwan drove the car, seemingly oblivious to the other two people in the same space. Her gaze was calm but somewhat unusual, revealing a strange stiffness.
Gu Qingwan's every movement was frighteningly precise. Luo Xiaoli, sitting in the back seat, glanced at her and noticed that Gu Qingwan's elbow was at an angle while driving. She remained completely unmoved, whether going over speed bumps or turning. This angle was always there.
This detail startled Luo Xiaoli. She became somewhat wary, but after hearing Jiang Cheng's voice, she responded and stopped observing, simply suppressing the thought deep in her heart.
Winter days are shorter; by 7 p.m., it was completely dark, and lights came on in the neighborhood. Through the windows, scenes of everyday life unfolded: couples arguing, children crying, and daughters caring for their fathers who had suffered strokes.
After Jiang Cheng got out of the car, he walked briskly towards the building entrance, holding Luo Xiaoli's hand.
It was an extremely ordinary scene, but just as she was about to step into the building, Luo Xiaoli, contrary to her usual behavior, turned around and stared at Gu Qingwan as she drove away.
The assistant, of course, doesn't live here. For security reasons, she lives in a neighboring community, not far away. Jiang Cheng still doesn't even know which building Gu Qingwan lives in. During their time together, Jiang Cheng was used to calling her name only when he needed her; otherwise, she was practically invisible.
Gu Qingwan did the best that an assistant could do.
After driving away from Huanjiang Community, she arrived at the foot of another building in another community.
Today, Gu Qingwan was dressed in a professional office lady outfit: a blazer over a blue shirt, trousers, and black high heels.
The "tap tap tap" sound was the sound of her heels hitting the tiled floor. Gu Qingwan walked to the elevator and pressed the button. She was wearing very light makeup today, except for her bright lipstick, which made her look radiant.
There were already a few people in the elevator, probably residents on a higher floor where she lived. It wasn't crowded. A young man in his early twenties seemed to see Gu Qingwan frequently returning, and he was now secretly glancing at this stunning woman out of the corner of his eye. Whether in terms of figure or appearance, this downstairs resident was truly breathtaking.
He longed to muster the courage to ask for her contact information and start a relationship, but his cowardice and inferiority complex made him feel unworthy of this seemingly outstanding woman. He had this thought several times, but he never took any concrete action.
The young boy was unaware of this, but thankfully he wasn't brave enough, because he was certain that Gu Qingwan would give him a cold look and then reject him.
The elevator dinged as it arrived at the floor, and she stepped out and disappeared down the corridor.
Opening the heavy, dark security door, the room was dimly lit, appearing empty and eerie. In the darkness, everything seemed blurry, and the original outlines became increasingly faint.
With a bang, the door slammed shut, and she vanished completely into the pitch-black darkness.
Gu Qingwan remained calm, standing there for a while without any intention of turning on the light. She walked forward without bumping into anything, seemingly quite familiar with the room.
No, that's not it, because this house... has no bed, sofa, air conditioner, dining table, or any of the corresponding living facilities.
Where a sofa should have been in the living room, there was a row of tables stacked together, each with screens of various sizes on it, adding a little light to the dim room. But what was displayed on the screens was even more horrifying… it showed all the surveillance footage from the surrounding Huanjiang residential area, including even the footage from Jiang Cheng's own living room.
Gu Qingwan calmly watched Jiang Cheng's back as he busied himself in the kitchen, while Luo Xiaoli, barefoot and wearing pajamas, munched on potato chips.
In other words, Jiang Cheng was under Gu Qingwan's watchful eye not only during the day, but also at night, every single minute and every second.
She doesn't need to sleep at night.
In the living room, in front of the monitor, Gu Qingwan meticulously unbuttoned her shirt, took off her blazer and folded it into a square, until everything was cleaned up. In the corner, there stood a space capsule more than two meters tall.
She walked over, opened the hatch, stood inside, her eyes still fixed on the screen.
The smooth back, which should have been made of flesh and blood, began to float strangely, as if some creature lived under its skin. The "puff puff... hiss" sound was somewhat unsettling.
Two mechanical arms suddenly emerged from Gu Qingwan's back, cutting through muscles without pain receptors and firmly fitting into the recessed area of the space capsule. In an instant, the entire room became brightly lit, and the sides of the cylindrical capsule emitted a technologically advanced blue light, which then dimmed.
