Chapter 175 War and Peace

Jiang Cheng visited this valley several times, and the towering technology tree represented his spiritual world. Each time he looked at the technology tree, he gained new and wonderful feelings, perhaps because it was so magnificent and grand, and at the same time contained a word that was impossible to refuse: the future.

Through this assassination attempt, Jiang Cheng understood a fact that was out in the open.

When the enemy is strong and we are weak, we suffer endless bullying.

If China were not strong enough, then even if a person born on this land achieves something, in the eyes of other covetous nations, he would become a lamb to the slaughter, a fish on a chopping board. Because China is strong, this assassination attempt failed, and they will not have another opportunity in the future.

He had been researching people's livelihoods and energy, hoping to help his country achieve a better future. However, throughout history, countless nations have risen and fallen, prospered and declined, some even disappearing altogether. One unavoidable question remains: what kind of nation can be considered truly strong?

The answer is obvious; as the saying goes, might makes right.

Modern weaponry is the fist of great powers; nuclear bombs are fists with explosive power, while biological weapons are fists enchanted.

Jiang Cheng only started to focus on the technology tree at this moment. He observed carefully, and since he couldn't avoid it, he would conquer it!

The assassination attempt solidified his resolve, leading him to begin research on his fourth project, following the Human Genome Project, controlled nuclear fusion, the law of entropy increase, and the brain-like project!

They've officially reached out and touched modern weaponry!

As a research leader, he had a profound understanding of one thing.

Why did he never have any enthusiasm for researching weapons before? It's because he mistakenly believed that the world was peaceful. Since peace already existed, wouldn't it be putting the cart before the horse to manufacture weapons of mass destruction?

He was not a ruthless warmonger; in fact, one could say that Jiang Cheng was kind in some respects.

However, the undercurrents constantly told him that harmony was just a facade, and that the underlying issues were actually very complex and intertwined.

In Leo Tolstoy's masterpiece *War and Peace*, he intertwines two different ways of life, constructing a magnificent epic. The book's theme affirms the just resistance of the Goose Kingdom people, praising their patriotism and heroism. However, the overall tone of the work is humane and compassionate, with words of sympathy permeating the entire text.

We do not glorify war, but it is one of the most powerful ways to achieve peace.

To quote Tolstoy: "A man lives consciously for himself, but is an unconscious instrument of the historical ends of all mankind." Human actions are irreversible; the historical significance arises from the simultaneous occurrence of one person's actions and those of others.

This sentence is an overview of the entire volume, referring to the cosmic docking.

Upon closer inspection of the fruits on the technology tree, Jiang Cheng made a strange discovery! He had never noticed before that more than half of the fruits hanging on the entire technology tree were related to weaponry!

He was immediately plunged into a deep shock, his brows furrowed as he pondered what this meant, whether it signified an extreme and absurd world in chaos.

If that were truly the case, what preparations should Jiang Cheng make? He raised his head, his gaze fixed intently on the fruit whose light was growing ever brighter. Among all the weapons, it was so unique and possessed a breathtaking power. There have been numerous theories and speculations about this heavy weapon worldwide, and it is an indispensable element in science fiction works, yet no one has ever actually built it.

Its name is: Plasma Cannon.

The basic theory behind this weapon is very easy to understand. Breaking it down, plasma is one of the four states of matter. Science clearly defines matter as solid, liquid, gas, and plasma (or ionized plasma state). Fluids composed of positively and negatively charged ions have immense destructive power. And a cannon is even easier to understand; it's simply a form of firing.

Why is it that even with a basic theoretical foundation, it's impossible to put it into practice?

Because plasma is extremely unstable, it is more dangerous than any weapon currently known, including nuclear weapons.

Its destructive power is immense, even threatening objects like spaceships. It represents the pinnacle of modern weaponry conceived in the human mind. What truly captivated Jiang Cheng was that, unlike nuclear weapons, plasma cannons do not emit radiation. They only destroy living organisms, not the Earth's ecosystem, and will not cause environmental damage or wounds to the ground that would take centuries to heal.

Compared to controlled nuclear fusion, this kind of economic and energy attack, armed, seems more practical and deterrent.

If China were to acquire plasma cannons in the future, it would be its second trump card compared to nuclear weapons. Most importantly, it would not violate the war treaties that have already been signed!

Jiangcheng prefers to call it a "weapon that can be used".

China possesses a sword that belongs to the emperor, but the sword can only hang above one's head; if it were to fall, it would disrupt the world's default balance.

The one that can truly be drawn and bring forth a trail of blood is the second sword.

Jiang Cheng made up his mind. He wanted to obtain the blueprints for the plasma cannon from the technology tree and turn his imagined weapon into a tangible reality. If, as he suspected, a war was possible in the future, then he would have the Second Battalion Commander bring out the plasma cannon and blast it! Anyone who dared to oppose him would be blasted, anyone who caused trouble would be blasted, and anyone who harbored malicious intentions would be blasted!

This is also a way of seeking peace—brutal, but effective.

With this thought in mind, he no longer hesitated, reaching out his hand towards the direction of the fruit. Instantly, a breeze rustled through the forest, stirring the verdant branches of the technology tree, creating a rustling sound that seemed to weave a melody. In this gentle breeze, the fruit seemed to sense the call, flying into Jiang Cheng's hand. The heavy feeling vanished in his hand, finally transforming into a mark.

A cannon, flanked by hands embracing each other.

Jiang Cheng stared at the pattern. He knew it was a hint from the technology tree. The cannon was obviously a plasma cannon, but what did the embracing posture mean?

Is it some unseen message telling me to embrace the world with a heart full of love, echoing what Elder Chen told me about repaying evil with good? Should I really attend the global conference?

Jiang Cheng pondered for a moment, and then a few minutes later suddenly looked up.

He understood!

There are absolute thresholds in the world that control people's descent into extremes of good and evil, but there are also those who possess both. The black and white realm also contains gray; power can be exercised while kindness is bestowed—this is the true meaning of the symbol. Guns can conquer humanity, but they cannot conquer the heart. He never wanted to be a pushover, nor did he want to be a villain.

True harmony can only be achieved through both guns and fraternity.

This is probably the truth that Tolstoy wanted to tell others in "War and Peace".
