The man in front of the observation platform stared blankly into his eyes, seemingly lost in thought, no longer inside the cold space station.
He first swam in the dark ocean, like a fish that didn't know its way home, migrating with the ocean currents, going wherever the seawater surged.
Then the man remembered where he wanted to go. He remembered that he was never aimless; he always had a destination in mind.
Throughout the space station, there were countless people like him who had lost their minds and become unconscious. You could see the light in their eyes suddenly disappear, and then they would slightly open their mouths, saliva accumulating under their tongues, and then flowing out when it was full.
Everyone instantly became like silly, foolish children.
The person at the very front of the entire space station fell into a dream particularly quickly, and the silver-white beetle created a strange magnetic field in the entire enclosed environment.
He finally remembered that since childhood, he had dreamed of being a wolf king.
The world of reinforced concrete is not as good as the land or the grasslands; it cannot give people true inner peace. Humans often feel particularly restless, which may be due to the fast pace of social progress.
People always strive to be faster, in order to gain more enjoyment in a short period of time.
While watching dramas, I also scroll through short videos, eat while scrolling through short videos, and occasionally switch to chat with friends.
I always feel that I shouldn't go to bed early on a quiet night. I want to double all the happiness I wanted to experience beforehand and then give it to myself. So I started staying up late as a form of revenge, trying to indulge in fleeting happiness and let music fill my mind.
This highly stimulating thing blurs the senses, making us seem busy and fulfilled at first glance, but in reality, we are always in an empty environment.
In my childhood, I played in the mud, built secret bases, and roasted sweet potatoes with my friends. Happiness was simple back then. I slept soundly at night, without so many sensory stimulations. Even the children waiting for the sweet potatoes to bake were much more patient than today's young people.
As this man wandered in his fantasy world, he dreamed that he was on a grassland.
Many years ago, when he was a child, he longed for life on the grasslands, where he could look up at the azure sky. He had read a scene in a book: a sacrifice was held on a distant high slope, surrounded by bonfires, and even the Great Khan could only watch from afar with the herdsmen. On the high slope, the Great Khan sang ancient prayer songs, adorned with silver ornaments, wearing a huge rhinoceros horn on his head, and dancing with a battle sword in his hand. It seemed as if he had summoned the gods' favor upon the human world, and everyone prostrated themselves in worship.
Seemingly aware of the emptiness in his heart, those things that were far from being realized, the person on the observation platform stepped down, placed his hands above his head in a prayerful gesture, and knelt down devoutly. At this moment, his faith was not in humanity, but in himself.
He opened his mouth, as if to roar out the deepest voice of a wise being, and stretched out his tongue with all his might. Silver beetles eroded the cracks in the space station, crawled in from the outside, landed in the man's mouth, and quietly crept into his lungs.
The man's head was pressed down against the cold iron wall, and his whole body trembled as if in a spasm, like he was having an epileptic seizure, his whole body shaking like a sieve.
Life is celebrated and cherished for so long because it is so short.
Therefore, we try to make it as rich as possible.
As the man trembled, he felt as if he had received divine favor, and his lifeline was being stretched infinitely.
Cells reach a final threshold during continuous division, and then age. When human functions are completely exhausted, breathing ceases.
A fleshy growth suddenly appeared on the man's neck, growing rapidly like a blown bubble until it spread across his entire neck and became like a head.
His ankles, calves, arms, and face.
Those disgusting lumps appeared abruptly and kept growing. In just over ten minutes, their original skin was no longer visible, and only rotten flesh replaced the healthy flesh.
The beetle did not devour his life; instead, it granted him true immortality.
This is the great blessing that prayer has given him.
Inside the space station, the humans gradually disappeared, all of them falling into a coma. Then, beetles crawled into their mouths, nostrils, and ear canals.
They cause cells to become diseased, begin to divide endlessly, and frantically suck up nutrients, thus turning the lively human being into a wriggling lump of rotten flesh.
Tian Yin collapsed to the ground, his face soaked in the coffee that had just spilled. His fingers trembled violently, and his whole body was as pale as a sheet of paper.
A flood of memories rushed through Tian Yin's mind.
He rose through the ranks from an outstanding student in the county town, constantly taking exams and advancing in rank, trying to leap over countless steps and give himself a life that wouldn't be wasted.
Living like this might be tiring, or it might be fulfilling; who knows?
Tian Yin didn't actually know if he had made progress; he only knew that while learning knowledge he didn't particularly like, half of his life hadn't been wasted, and he had earned more opportunities for himself.
Not everyone tries to change anything like Jiang Cheng.
There are very few main characters, and at least it won't be him.
He was simply trying to make a living, rising from a poor student to a stable, government-employed worker with a secure job, and he now has a wife and a lovely daughter.
Tian Yin smiled brightly as he played with his daughter in a cramped corner of the city, even though he calculated every night how much he could spend after deducting the mortgage payment for the month.
