Chapter 236 Snowfield Expedition (Part 1)

"Who is that person? Has he set off yet? Stop him and bring him back!"

"They set off last night..."

After saying this, the young man's lips turned bitter, and he sat down silently.

The man in charge of delivering the supplies was an old man who had always lived in the north and was very familiar with the route to the astronomical station; he had traveled that route countless times.

The old man's name was Kronent. He had a kind face, a robust build, and a long, gray beard.

"Call him on his satellite phone. Aren't all the investors equipped with satellite phones? Call him back."

"Commander... our satellites are no longer usable."

The young man opened his mouth and uttered these words.

Tali was taken aback, then realized that we had lost the right to use satellite phones from the day H-012 broke down.

Furthermore, there is a blind spot at the North Pole where vehicles are completely unusable; one can only reach it by snowmobile.

Presumably, Old Man Trump is already on his way to the observation station in the snow.

God knows what will happen when he gets there and sees the researchers...

When the urgent siren sounded through the loudspeaker and was transmitted to every corner of the Federation.

People who were eating, playing on their phones, or sitting on benches discussing documents with colleagues all stood up, looking tense, and hurried toward the command center.

This level of alert must mean something has happened.

It's the kind of problem that requires elite personnel to work together to solve.

Luo Xiaoli and Zhao Xuerou were sitting on a bench with a lush lawn behind them.

Luo Xiaoli looked up at the direction of the command center. The piece of cauliflower she had just picked up was frozen in mid-air. She didn't know what was going on, so she was a little nervous, hoping it couldn't be anything bad.

Ke Bing held up her lunchbox, lowered her eyes, and continued to focus on eating.

Their level was too low; students from the Mech Academy were not allowed to participate in similar activities and could only watch others go to the Command and Control Center.

"What's going on? The sirens are blaring."

How would I know?

"Xiao Li, ask Jiang Cheng." Zhao Xuerou's eyes gleamed with curiosity.

Luo Xiaoli swallowed the cauliflower in one gulp and mumbled, "Tonight, I guess he's very busy right now."

That's true. Under such circumstances, the deputy commander must be one of the busiest people.

Zhao Xuerou nodded. After they finished eating, they prepared to go back to their dormitory to rest, wondering if the afternoon classes would still be held.

By this time, the open space in front of the command and control center had been filled with people.

Researchers in white lab coats, commanders drawn from governments of various countries, monitors who have just been relieved of their posts, and so on.

Tali, who was standing on the steps, was whispering something to Jiang Cheng.

The two highest-ranking individuals were the focus of attention for the researchers below them.

Are you sure you really want to do this?

"Of course I'm sure. How can I accurately understand them without going to the front lines? There's an old Chinese saying, 'Nothing ventured, nothing gained.'" Jiang Cheng's tone was firm, and an unyielding look appeared on his handsome face.

“Alright, I understand.” Tali nodded, his stubble-covered face instantly turning serious as he turned to face the researchers.

"Notify all personnel that Group 1 (six people), Group 2 (ten people), Group 4 (ten people), and 28 personnel from the Logistics Department are being selected to assist the Operations Center personnel in accompanying Deputy Commander Jiang to the Arctic. The remaining personnel will remain in the Command Building to assist me in command. The list will now be read."

As the roll call resounded, one by one, individuals stepped forward in a solemn atmosphere, ready to embark on their journey with Jiang Cheng into the snowy landscape.

While the federal government was busy.

On a desolate, snow-covered Arctic mountain, amidst the vast expanse of white, a person riding a snowmobile carrying a pile of supplies travels through the icy landscape.

His beard had turned even whiter, and the mist he exhaled condensed into icicles that stuck to it. Scattered crystals covered his heavy hat.

The old man stood out like a blemish on a flawless face. His black snowmobile was so conspicuous in this world. In the vastness of the world, he left behind a lonely, lifeless line that continued to extend.

"hiss!"

I gasped for breath.

Old man Te slowly slowed down. Ahead was a high slope, and he looked up. Although he was old, having lived in the northern region for many years and hunting in his spare time, the old man's eyes were still as sharp as an eagle's.

The slope was extremely steep and the snow was deep, making it exceptionally difficult to traverse.

The old man took out a cigarette, put it in his mouth, shielded the flame, lit it with a "snap," took a deep drag, and leaned forward at the same time. This lowered the motorcycle's center of gravity to prevent it from tipping over in case it over.

If that happens, it will be an unacceptable failure.

He understood his arduous task: to deliver precious supplies to the researchers who were waiting to be fed, as they depended on these things to survive.

In sub-zero temperatures, the truck overturned, and the old man had no way to gather his supplies and start again, so he had to turn back the way he came.

Fortunately, he has a wealth of experience.

After a thrilling but safe ascent of the high slope, the descent became exceptionally smooth, and the speed increased several times over.

The old man set off last night, first driving his SUV to the nearest station where his snowmobile was stored. The staff greeted him warmly and helped him unload his gear. The rest of the route was impassable by vehicles; only experienced locals could pass through without difficulty.
