Chapter 246 still yields no results.

The discussion lasted all night, with shouts and curses erupting from the top floor as those holding differing opinions argued heatedly, their faces turning red. Had the commander not been present, a fight would have surely broken out.

Those holding conservative views angrily rebuked the other party, pointing their finger at his nose, spitting everywhere, as if they wanted to raise their hands and slap him.

Those holding radical opinions sneered several times, glancing sideways and ignoring the opinions of others, while arguing their point of view.

I have no intention of discussing philosophy and ethics in the city or countryside, but the seemingly distant word "philosophy" exists at all times and is closely related to humankind.

Jiang Cheng is conflicted because he's caught in a vicious cycle, and now he's dragging everyone else into it.

After all, he wasn't the only one who could decide the fate of mutant researchers.

Decades ago, ethicist Philippa Ford published an article in which he mentioned the "trolley problem".

The experiment involves five people tied to the tram tracks, and one person tied to the spare track. An out-of-control tram is speeding towards you, and you happen to have a lever nearby that allows you to decide which track the tram will go to.

This is remarkably similar to the current predicament of mutation researchers.

Jiangcheng could choose to dissect, conduct biological experiments on, and control them for training purposes for academy students. This would maximize the value of researchers and help us fully understand the causes and methods of mutation.

This is of vital importance to humanity.

Jiang Cheng was sitting in a chair. The night outside was getting deeper and deeper. The argument had been going on for more than two hours, and it would be dawn in a few more hours.

The insults around me were very sharp.

“I think you know why they are in this state,” the speaker said, pointing to the glass jar behind him. “It’s all for the sake of us! In this situation, if we can’t give them a good ending, and we still want to maximize their value, I find you disgusting. I absolutely disagree with the decision to conduct this research.”

This person wasn't cursing Jiang Cheng, but rather the rationalists who held opinions on anatomical research.

The rationalists believe that since things have come to this point, let's put morality and ethics aside for now. There has never been a victory without bloodshed and sacrifice. Special times call for special decisions.

Someone stepped forward and proposed an alternative approach: "I suggest that all federal personnel relinquish their right to make decisions and instead let the researchers' families decide, as they are more qualified than we are."

“I disagree. After we informed them of the news, the family was already in a state of extreme grief. If you then propose an autopsy, what will others think of our Federation? A bunch of cold-blooded animals? What a terrible idea.”

The debate is a back-and-forth exchange.

Tali sat to the side smoking, puffing out clouds of smoke, his expression hidden behind the smoke, making it difficult to see clearly.

He must have been tired of arguing; nobody wants to face such a difficult problem.

Jiang Cheng was getting impatient. He knew that they wouldn't be able to reach a conclusion today, and if they kept arguing, they might start fighting.

So, at 2:49 a.m.

Jiang Cheng slammed his hand on the table, stood up, and said, "Alright, meeting adjourned. That's enough. We'll continue our discussion later."

He was the first to leave, and Tali followed suit, but the meeting room was still noisy.

A few minutes later, he returned to his dormitory, exhausted both physically and mentally.

After such a long journey, apart from a short rest inside the icebreaker, Jiang Cheng hasn't had a proper night's sleep in nearly twenty hours.

He was sleepy, but not extremely sleepy. He leaned quietly against the headboard, not wanting to lie down.

I have no strength left to move.

His mind was filled with a blurry mess, making it impossible for him to think, and he was in a dazed state.

Jiang Cheng got up lazily, washed up quickly, and then lay down on the bed and fell asleep.

He wasn't even covered with a blanket.

A little over an hour later, the door to the room was opened a crack...

The light from the hallway seeped in, illuminating the floor and the bookshelves.

Gu Qingwan tiptoed in. Although the room was dimly lit, her keen senses allowed her to avoid touching anything as she walked to the bedside.

Jiang Cheng was fast asleep, still dressed, except for his coat.

The window was open, so Gu Qingwan went over and drew the curtains that were being blown around by the wind, and then closed the window as well.

She knelt down by the window again, carefully pulled the blanket out from the inside of Jiang Cheng's body, covered him with it, and pressed it down a little above his chest.

All of this has been done.

In the darkness, Gu Qingwan did not leave, but quietly looked at his face.

She always had an indescribable feeling in her heart, and some words were buried in her chest and could not be spoken.

If she had a choice, she would like to tell everyone her true story and be completely honest, because that's what Jiang Cheng did.

A person like him doesn't hide himself; he reveals everything to someone who isn't family, demonstrating immense trust.

Most of the time, people have no choice but to go with the flow.

In every choice, only the strong have the ability to make a decision, but even the strong cannot make all the choices, let alone those who are used as pawns.

It's hard to share my thoughts with anyone, so I'll only tell the clear sky and bright moon.

Gu Qingwan lay on the edge of Jiang Cheng's bed, her long hair cascading lazily over her beautiful face. The corners of her mouth and eyebrows were turned down.

This offensive behavior lasted for a long time, about ten minutes, until she realized it was time to go back and let her boss get some rest.

Gu Qingwan straightened up, her high heels lightly touching the floor. She picked up a cup, poured a glass of water, and placed it on the table next to Jiang Cheng's bedside. She then closed the bookmark on the folder.
