She was stunned for a while, feeling an indescribable fear rise up and permeate her mind, slowing the flow of her blood. She even had an unconscious feeling of wanting to kneel down and worship a sacred and great creature.
She felt deeply her own insignificance, her negligibility in the universe, even less than a speck of dust.
Indeed, this is true. It is precisely because we are thinking carbon-based beings with the brilliance of wisdom constantly flashing in our minds that we experience a variety of emotions, such as sadness or joy, or feeling as insignificant as an ant.
They're nothing but maggots, helpless and trampled upon.
Adela's emotions were slowly being affected... The researchers around her were all nervously watching the decaying timer. They longed to see the first person who dared to defy the Ancient Spirits appear, which would bring humanity boundless hope.
The simplest things are often the hardest to accomplish.
Until the time was reduced to two and a half minutes, no one moved forward.
Will the young people of the North, on whom people have placed high hopes, ultimately perish in fear?
The answer is clearly no.
Adela lowered her eyes in a daze, her hands trembling slightly as she tried to calm herself. The turbulent emotions swirling within her were affecting her. How could she give up so easily? From childhood, her father had taught her to never turn back until she hit a wall. Life always presents countless choices; a wrong choice can bring glory and pride, while a wrong step can lead to ruin. But not choosing will forever condemn her to be a weakling cowering behind others. At crossroads, some resolutely charge forward, achieving great things or becoming insignificant floating corpses in the river of time. Death is not frightening; what is truly terrifying is having power but losing courage. There are simply too many mediocre people. To transcend them, to be idealistic, no one is born wanting to be mediocre; they simply lose hope in the face of life's pressures and hardships.
She closed her eyes, exhaled deeply, and took a step forward! This step attracted the attention of all the researchers, including Jiang Cheng.
The leader of the northern youths, a wild beast defying rules and always yearning to break free, her eyes gleam with untamed light. She lacks the timidity of ordinary people, displaying only unwavering wildness, unyielding even against the roar of mountains and the crashing of waves. She is the fiercest sailor on a ship, trident in hand, her eyes fixed intently on her prey. Adela's focus is terrifying, just like when she was a child over a decade ago, her bearded father standing behind her, his roar startling the animals of the forest, and she had to seize the moment to pull the trigger in a split second.
Then, she felt just as tense as she does now. She couldn't bear to see her father's expectant eyes gradually turn into disappointment; it was torture. The blood of the North was forever filled with primal and wildness. As the chieftain's daughter, her daily behavior was under the watchful eyes of the tribe. Every tiny detail would be magnified. Adela didn't want to hear people say, "The chieftain's daughter isn't like a North person. She should be running around the territory with knitted dolls, using inferior skills to ingratiate herself."
This is an intolerable insult.
She remembered when she was five or six years old, she was bullied by some children from her clan. They tore up the doll her mother had knitted for her, threw it on the ground, and pulled out the thread, wrapping it around a tree again and again. Adela watched as her beloved doll disintegrated, from the legs to the head, it was ripped off like guts, the eyes made from the cuffs falling to the ground. She went back to her father crying to seek revenge... but her father only gave her a cold look, took a towel, and wiped her dirty face clean.
You should learn to protect your own things.
These words were etched into her mind, never to be forgotten. This made her even stronger and more mindful of her status. She became the leader, beating the bullies until they cried out in pain, while the other parents watched coldly, seemingly accepting the law of the jungle.
There are two very important reasons why the Federation is involved in this training.
Adela hoped to gain more experience. Her leadership position among the northern youth was deeply entrenched. Her father, as chieftain, was growing old day by day, and she would succeed him, striving for a better future for her people. Her experience in the Federation was like a medal, a significant chapter in her life. If one day she lost her homeland, what would become of her people? This, too, was a form of protection.
Another reason is Jiangcheng.
Because of the extreme remoteness of her town, Adela's town had only one college that taught subjects like languages, geography, and mathematics. After a few years, students could basically graduate once they learned to read. She was completely clueless about academics, and contrary to her robust physique, she felt a profound lack of knowledge.
Last year, the only newspaper deliveryman brought a paper a month late from afar. The news on it was outdated, but Adela saw Jiang Cheng's name in it. The headlines read, "A genius boy who saved hundreds of millions of children with genetic diseases," and "An energy tycoon who achieved controlled nuclear fusion." For a small town with a severe lack of education, this was simply a fantasy. She connected this person with the world's child from the tribe's ancient legends, adding a touch of mystery.
He was not strong, but rather thin and handsome. Yet, he earned the respect of the vast majority of people through his knowledge and did many good deeds.
She felt a vague, lingering emotion towards this boy who was more than 10,000 kilometers away and whom she had never met before. It might have been curiosity, or it might have been admiration.
