At first, nothing could be seen. Everyone stared intently at the very center of the smoke. Their heartbeats grew increasingly rapid, accompanied by heavy breathing. The shattered glacier suddenly extended to the observers' feet.
This caused him to retreat repeatedly, and he became somewhat flustered.
"Sir, what if the glacier beneath our feet cracks? Will we fall through? After all, the bottom is hollow."
"It's alright, I was prepared for this. Setting up the defense line so close to the membrane was precisely so that we could evacuate at any time."
After a violent tremor, a heart-wrenching howl suddenly filled the world. It was a sound that no living being could make, as if a mountain had been cleaved in two by a giant axe, with rocks flying everywhere. The frequency was so high that humans could not bear it.
The well-trained heavily armored soldiers quickly used the equipment on their mechs to cover their ears, while others hurriedly put on the noise-blocking headphones behind their tactical vests.
Even so, they were trembling violently from their calves to their heads, their whole bodies shaking, and they were about to fall at any moment, so they could only bend their legs and support themselves with their hands on the ground.
Not far away, the glacier, covered with insect eggs, seemed unable to withstand the stimulation of the long howl, and began to fester and shatter, falling from the sky to the ground.
The sound was extremely long, lasting for a very long time before it finally stopped. By then, the thick smoke had dissipated, revealing the charred ground that had been bombarded countless times by plasma. Its original color was completely unrecognizable; it was a color that swallowed all the fluorescence, resembling a black hole.
Jiang Cheng knew in his heart that the universe, this divine gunner, had hit the target accurately, inflicting unimaginable pain on Gu Ling.
As the most lethal thermal weapon currently on this planet, its power should not be underestimated.
Jiang Cheng put on his goggles again and looked in that direction with Tali and other high-ranking officials. Unexpectedly, after the thick smoke dissipated, the so-called wound on his back was not exposed.
Instead, a gigantic head emerged from the ground!
This is the second time Jiang Cheng has seen Gu Ling's appearance.
A shadow fell on the ground beneath its head, as if an axe had suddenly fallen from the sky. Its grayish-brown skin was uneven, and its scales resembled a stone forest that had been ravaged by wind and rain for many years. It was not only ugly but also had holes of all sizes.
On either side of the axe head, the murky, dark yellow eyeballs were about the size of half a room. They were so large that people could even see the vertical pupils inside expanding and contracting with each movement.
Its gaze was like that of a venomous snake, cold and cunning, as if it were about to leap out of the ground and reveal its fangs at any moment.
Many researchers and soldiers, including Tali, were seeing the true appearance of the Guling for the first time. While not exactly ugly to the point of being shocking, it was certainly a sight that inspired fear and dread.
Yu Zhou, the operator of the plasma cannon, even felt his heart stop for a few seconds, his mind went blank, and he had no idea what to do.
This is the most real fear brought by unknown creatures; it is indescribable, but it strikes straight to the heart.
As the commander, Tali's mental fortitude was indeed outstanding. He quickly recovered and, when the explosions and roars subsided and the world became quiet, he said to Jiang Cheng with a smirk, "This thing is uglier than the ugliest thing I've ever seen."
"What's the ugliest thing you've ever seen?"
"The bulldog my grandma kept when I was a child was not only ugly, but also smelled terrible."
"If it still won't come out, order the bombardment to continue, and completely enrage it."
Tali nodded and raised his arm again. At this moment, Yu Zhou reacted and keenly received the signal: "Plasma cannon main gunner is ready. Barrel cooling down in four seconds!"
"Four seconds later, keep firing. Fire every time it cools down, until it stops hiding like a turtle!"
"yes!"
Yu Zhou stared intently at the fluorescent light on the control panel in front of him. With only half a second left in the countdown, he raised his hand and slammed it down heavily!
The cannon barrel was heated again, and the laser ignited the deuterium, its dazzling light shining brightly once more in the dark night.
Jiang Cheng could clearly see that the light of the plasma cannon was reflected in Gu Ling's cloudy eyes, and there was some emotion in its eyes, just as cold as before.
However, amidst the chill, there was a hint of... anger!
Have you ever witnessed what a tiger looks like when it's enraged in the mountains? It's ferocious, baring its teeth, ready to devour anyone it can.
Although Gu Ling had no fur, Jiang Cheng felt that its scales were about to burst open.
Even so, it still did something that surprised everyone present.
The ancient spirit did not leave the ice surface it considered its nest. Instead, it quickly turned around and used its extremely hard scales to block the attack. The shock of its mountain-sized body turning around was very strong. The existence of such a ferocious beast on Earth was something that made people feel terrified at all times.
It must be killed and left to rot beneath the glacier.
Otherwise, everyone present would be sleepless every night.
Jiang Cheng frowned deeply. Based on his judgment, the damage from the plasma cannon was definitely not a tickle; it was a substantial attack. So why not dodge it? Even if injured, should he fully recover?
Is a full recovery really that important?
What's the difference between dragging a crippled body and being born from a cocoon but not yet fully formed? It's the same principle!
Furthermore, through his goggles, Jiang Cheng could clearly see that Yu Zhou's first shot had hit the lower part of its back, leaving it charred black, with countless scales torn off, and a horrific wound blasted open! At the moment it turned around, the area was still flashing with plasma light.
