"Federal War Maiden pilot Zhu Yibai, approach the second membrane and force the axe out from underground. We will provide heavy firepower support at the appropriate time."
"Understood, sir."
The engine propelled Zhu Yibai, wielding a dusty ice blade, towards the bottomless pit. The War Maiden landed on the cliff face, just inches from the membrane. She calmly looked down at the second-level space, raised her left forearm, and extended a giant alloy shield to block her way.
"War Maiden is ready. Please give the order, sir. Requesting entry."
Zhu Yibai's youthful voice rang in Commander-in-Chief Tali's ears.
"Set off!"
The Valkyrie focused her mind on the giant shield, soaring high into the sky. Holding a sword in her right hand and a shield in her left, she aimed at the second layer of the spatial membrane below and slowly descended.
The researchers and soldiers watched the War Maiden's every move with bated breath. They were all focused and ready to launch an attack and provide reinforcements the moment the axe was forced out.
However, before even entering the dimension, the membrane began to disappear, rippling outwards from the center like a pebble thrown into a calm lake. The opening slowly widened, revealing a bottomless, hazy gray mist filling the space. Without any action from the Federation, the second layer of space disintegrated on its own; no one could have predicted what was happening.
Upon noticing the change in circumstances, the commander immediately notified the War Maiden pilot, "Zhu Yibai, retreat to the cliff now. The plan has been changed, and we'll discuss it further. Understand?"
"Okay, I'll return it right away."
After responding, he focused intently on maneuvering the mecha, and a blue light appeared in the sky, continuously providing energy from nuclear fusion.
Next, a huge head suddenly emerged from the gray fog. Its turbid yellow eyes stared intently at the sky. It rushed towards the sky at an unimaginable speed, so fast that it left afterimages in the air. It was so sudden that it caught everyone off guard. The sharp tip of the head, like a rusty iron axe, pierced towards the bottom of the battle maiden.
In the blink of an eye, Jiang Cheng and the others who were remotely controlling the battlefield suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
If the Valkyrie were struck by the axe's hard skull, she would definitely suffer a fatal injury.
Unexpectedly, Zhu Yibai's reflexes were so sharp. As expected of one of the two most suitable pilots chosen by the brain-like system, he directly swung the silver shield, making a beautiful arc in the air, and blocked the axe attack from below his body.
The Valkyrie neither dodged nor evaded, but faced the attack head-on; this choice was equally astonishing.
Half a second later, like a comet hitting the earth, a loud bang shook the entire dimension. The axe and the silver shield collided, sparking dazzling sparks, and exploded in mid-air like lightning! The force of the axe's impact was too great. The shield caught the attack, but the entire alloy shield twisted in the middle and almost broke, with cracks covering both sides of the armor.
The War Maiden was like a cannonball, thrown backwards and flying into the high sky of the dimension. Countless dust particles spread in all directions, and in an instant, her huge figure was obscured. The Federation members also covered their eyes to protect themselves from the flying dust.
The axe was in no better shape, falling downwards like a meteorite and crashing heavily onto the ice, creating a huge dent.
However, it has thick skin and flesh, so it probably wasn't hurt.
After a series of coughs, Jiang Cheng turned his gaze back to the sky, his brow furrowed as he nervously searched for the War Maiden. But then, silence fell, and her figure vanished without a trace, never to be found again.
"Number Four, Zhu Yibai, can you hear me?" he called out.
There was no response.
What exactly happened? Was the connection cut off?
As Jiang Cheng was pondering this, suddenly, an extremely dazzling beam of light pierced through the gray fog, shattering the air in its path and blasting a tearing whirlwind of dust from the center, as thick as a dragon pillar, standing in the center of the dimension!
Plasma cannon!
Crackling flashes of electricity completely covered the craters in the ice. Spherical particles reacted wildly, bursting into the air and radiating a holy halo. The aftershocks caused the ice surface to tremble continuously.
The Valkyrie threw down her twisted, mangled shield from the sky and charged downwards fearlessly. Wielding an ice blade, she resembled a god descending from heaven. Her engine accelerated three times, then weakened and surged forward again. The last afterimage was still faintly visible in the original spot, but the Valkyrie's steel body had already moved to another location.
A look of amazement flashed in Jiang Cheng's eyes. He had never imagined that a nuclear fusion energy engine could be used in this way. Zhu Yibai's ingenious idea had developed something new, which was truly amazing.
The dust-covered ice blade, like a crescent moon, slashed downwards with a chilling shockwave, its target the axe that was frantically dodging the plasma explosion. The axe was dodging left and right in the millions of degrees of heat, but this thunderous strike came too unexpectedly.
The previous attack had no effect on Zhu Yibai, who launched a fierce counterattack.
With his arms crossed, the axe-wielder sliced off a massive ice floe, lifted it up with his hands, bent his legs like a frog, spun around a few times, and flung the ice floe into the air. At the same time, he spat out green liquid from his mouth, shooting it towards the battle maiden.
The fragile ice layer was no match for the crescent moon's fall; it was sliced open in an instant, shattering into countless ice shards that flew everywhere. However, the green poison arrow that followed was truly insidious, clinging to the ice blade like a maggot, corroding it until white smoke rose.
The most important thing about a sword is momentum. This crescent strike descends from the sky with the force of thunder, but the sword is already damaged. How can this momentum continue?
Zhu Yibai gave his own answer, using a move that shocked everyone.
The ice blade, tinged with a faint green hue, shattered with a thud, intertwining and mixing with the floating ice it had just cut down, forming a cloud of white and blue mist that was about to disappear in the blink of an eye.
