There are certain moments in life when you can feel the vibrancy of life most intensely.
If ordinary days are like water that slowly flows across parched ground, disappearing without a trace and leaving no impression, then these moments are like murals carved on the massive stones of ancient Egypt, ever new and enduring.
In those brief two or three seconds, Jiang Cheng witnessed the deaths of countless companions. Wherever his gaze fell, all living things turned to ashes in an instant.
A blue light, hidden within the dazzling pure white radiance, rose into the sky and swept across the giant shield.
Light waves collided and disappeared from each other. The surging energy made Jiangcheng feel the infinity of the universe. Carbon-based life forms seemed so insignificant in the face of this power.
Gu Qingwan's countless "spider-like" mechanical legs joined together to form a thick barrier.
Blue stripes appeared on her face, spreading from her eyes to her cheeks, and her pupils contracted like a burning engine, staring fearlessly at the creature hidden in the light in the sky.
A massive, rhomboid creature emerged, its entire body covered in tentacles, with transparent mucus adhering to its surface and layers of mucous membranes. Its eyes were incredibly small, almost like two tiny blue buttons embedded in its face.
It coldly stared at the robot Gu Qingwan. The two faced each other, one in the sky and the other on the glacier. In the silence, Jiang Cheng could feel the vitality of life, because everyone else was dead except for him.
He thought he could foresee everything, but he never expected that he would make one mistake after another regarding the invasive species, ultimately leading to this outcome.
Startled, Jiang Cheng stepped out from behind Gu Qingwan, staring at the culprit with a gloomy gaze. Realizing what had happened in that short time, he cursed loudly.
"You think you can escape this dimension? Even if you kill me now, this area will only become a shell for you to hide in. This level of invasion is not enough to make human civilization make a big fuss. Useless! You will forever hide in this dimension and wait for our conquest. Don't dream of taking away our home that we depend on for survival."
Jiang Cheng looked at it with extreme disgust. The rhomboid creature stared back at him for a while, then suddenly its mouth began to bulge strangely, making a "creaking" sound like an old, broken fan.
It was like a deep-sea batfish surfacing to breathe heavily.
It looks quite ridiculous.
Jiang Cheng could see the hint of mockery in its eyes!
"Language," its voice suddenly echoed in Jiang Cheng's mind, as if it came from all directions of the dimension, like a demonic whisper, "I can easily master your language, but I have never tried to communicate with you. Because your civilization is too backward, tens of thousands of years behind us. And you, who are now in charge of this anti-invasion war and are being protected, are even more laughable. You are nothing more than a civilization as vast as the ocean in the universe that can easily crush you, and you will perish sooner or later."
"On what grounds? Just because you're a soldier who was easily crushed by the War Maidens I developed over several months?" Jiang Cheng didn't back down, his eyes filled with even more contempt for the rhombus-shaped creature who was just trying to intimidate him!
"No. My race and I are nearing extinction, with only a single giant ship carrying the few remaining old, weak, and disabled sailing through the galaxy. You don't understand what I mean," the rhombus-shaped creature said, suddenly looking up at the top of the dark dimension, as if trying to see through the membrane to the city standing in the sky—a sacred place that all living beings yearn to reach, a dreamlike haven. "Besides, you say this is your home. We descended here tens of millions of years ago, leaving our traces. It seems we, as native inhabitants, predate even the two-legged sheep. Back then, we were at our peak, but now we've become cannon fodder in interstellar wars, nearly extinct. Carbon-based life forms in remote corners of the galaxy were wiped out effortlessly by those powerful civilizations. Do you understand?"
"Just because you once landed here doesn't mean this planet belongs to you. What a joke," Jiang Cheng replied coldly. "Besides, Earth's resources and lifespan aren't so abundant as to be astonishing. It's already in the late stages of development. We don't have the conditions to be invaded on a large scale. It's probably only a rotting race like yours that would target humanity, which is just beginning to flourish."
The rhombus-shaped creature began to laugh again. It no longer looked down at Jiang Cheng and Gu Qingwan from its high position, because it knew that this robot on the ground could easily take its life.
It slowly drew closer and said to Jiang Cheng, "You are indeed very clever. People who possess 'Micro-Light' cannot be judged by ordinary standards. As you said, Earth has entered the final stage of development. But what is truly coveted by countless civilizations is not you, but her."
"Her?" Following its gaze, Jiang Cheng saw Gu Qingwan, whose pupils were burning with blue flames. "What 'micro-light'?"
“Fate is truly terrifying…” The rhomboid creature’s tentacles trembled in the air, swaying like the legs of a jellyfish. It seemed to be expressing its inner feelings through these externalized movements. “Some groups that fantasize about expanding their race and spare no effort to bring their civilization to the top can only manage to obtain a tiny glimmer of light, while magnificent gems are hidden in the corners of decay and backwardness. Isn’t that terrifying?” It seemed to be talking to itself, yet it also seemed to be asking Jiang Cheng.
It had probably already given up hope of survival, anticipating that in the near future, its lone fleet would run out of fuel and crash into a blazing, steaming planet, causing an explosion, and that its own invasion would fail, making it a discarded pawn.
