The first light of dawn.
The loneliness of the night vanished completely as the sun rose, and the city returned to its bustling state.
The east-facing bedroom was bathed in golden morning light. Sunlight streamed through the glass, spilling across the floor and falling on Luo Xiaoli's large expanse of snow-white back, making it look exceptionally alluring.
Jiang Cheng slowly opened his eyes, clearing his mind of the chaotic thoughts, and prepared to sit up.
But with just a slight movement, he suddenly felt a tingling and numbness in his right arm.
Following his gaze, he saw her profile resting quietly on his elbow, her cherry lips slightly parted, her eyelashes casting dappled shadows on her cheeks, making her appear even more delicate and adorable. A gentle breath lingered on Jiang Cheng's arm, like a soft feather brushing against his heart.
With her soft, fragrant body in his arms, Jiang Cheng could only lie back down on the bed and cover her with some blankets.
Perhaps it was Jiang Cheng's actions just now that awakened Luo Xiaoli.
She simply rolled over playfully, pressing her face against Jiang Cheng's chest and gently nuzzling his neck, murmuring softly, "Why did you wake up so early?"
"Is it still early?"
Jiang Cheng lowered his head and reached out to hug her tightly.
His breath as he spoke slid down the back of her neck, sending a tingling sensation through Luo Xiaoli's entire body.
"Hmm."
With a soft moan, Luo Xiaoli leaned back slightly, her face flushed as she lowered her head: "I thought it was only a little past eight o'clock. Aren't you getting up yet?"
"I've been waiting for you, haven't I?"
The two of them rarely spent time lying in bed whispering sweet nothings, so Jiang Cheng cherished this tender moment especially today.
Luo Xiaoli was a little embarrassed by Jiang Cheng's teasing, so she buried her face in his chest again and said in a muffled voice, "I haven't been able to see you every time I wake up lately. I'm really surprised that you're here today."
Jiang Cheng sensed the bitterness in Luo Xiaoli's tone and, feeling a pang of pity, rested his chin on her head, sighing softly, "I'm sorry, I... I've been really busy lately, have I been neglecting you?"
"It doesn't matter."
Luo Xiaoli smiled, looked up and hooked her arm around Jiang Cheng's neck.
Her slightly reddened eyes made her look like a pitiful little rabbit, while the curve of her lips created ripples in the heart of Jiangcheng.
At the same time, Luo Xiaoli stared greedily at the man in front of her, as if she would miss an important meeting if she missed even a glance at him.
She stared at Jiang Cheng, looking at the young man bathed in the dazzling sunlight, like clouds parting to reveal the mountain's face, or snow melting and bamboo stretching its back.
The more she looked at Jiangcheng, the deeper her unease became.
Luo Xiaoli had always known that the feeling called "like" during one's youth was like... how to describe it?
It's like a flock of waterbirds suddenly skimming across a calm lake. Their wingtips and webbed feet glide across the surface, and with just a slight increase in speed, they can create a surge of excitement and ripples.
Jiangcheng will always leave a glimpse of this wildly growing flower in her heart.
Just as Luo Xiaoli was in a daze, Jiang Cheng gently pulled her into his arms again and said in a somewhat somber tone, "I have something to tell you."
"What's wrong?"
Luo Xiaoli noticed the change in Jiang Cheng's tone and her heart skipped a beat. She nervously gripped his fingers and said, "Go on, I'm listening."
Although Jiang Cheng was reluctant, especially given Luo Xiaoli's cautious actions, he still spoke up directly: "I... I might have to leave for a while. I don't know how long, but the matter is very important, and I have to go."
"Do we really have to go?"
A look of disorientation flashed across Luo Xiaoli's eyes, and she simply murmured and repeated his last words.
She didn't know what to say.
She never wanted to act like a little girl in front of Jiang Cheng, even though it would only bring her sadness and disappointment. She just swallowed all her emotions.
Although Jiang Cheng was reluctant, he nodded and said, "Yes, I must go."
The two lay there in each other's arms, silent.
Neither of them uttered another word, as if if they opened their mouths, they would never be able to hold onto the other person again.
As the sunlight slowly crept down through the curtains and onto the floor, Luo Xiaoli sighed softly, "Sigh... never mind, I know, I understand, go ahead."
"Um."
Jiang Cheng still offered no explanation.
He couldn't bring himself to ask for this task.
Seeing the disappointment in Luo Xiaoli's eyes, Jiang Cheng still frowned slightly, unable to bear it any longer: "I... will come back as soon as possible."
"must."
Luo Xiaoli suddenly reached out and grabbed his shirt. Perhaps she was too eager, because she gripped his shirt with great force, and the shirt was all crumpled up.
After staring at Jiang Cheng for a few seconds, Luo Xiaoli's tone returned to normal, though it still carried a hint of worry: "You don't need to explain to me, and I won't force you. Just remember, I've been waiting for you to come back, okay?"
"must."
Jiang Cheng mimicked her tone and gave her the promise she wanted most.
After getting up, Jiang Cheng gathered all his complicated thoughts and threw himself back into the high-intensity activity.
Let bygones be bygones; he still has many things to take care of.
The most pressing task is to properly handle the follow-up arrangements for the global mecha joint research project.
Last night, Jiangcheng had already organized all the project documents and packaged them into one file.
At that time, this highly confidential document was lying quietly on a shiny silver USB drive on the coffee table.
He's going to hand over this USB drive today.
After getting dressed, Jiang Cheng went to the study and called You Lixuan.
