Maybe he drank too much at the bar.
At this point, Jiang Cheng could only make this guess for the time being.
Thinking of this, he turned around and groped his way to the bathroom.
Jiang Cheng searched aimlessly on the wall for a while, and when he pressed the switch, a bright white light shone so brightly that he could barely open his eyes.
"Smack!"
The vanity light shone precisely on his face, and Jiang Cheng had to barely cover his eyes, frowning and turning his body slightly before he could finally open his eyes.
The man who appeared in the mirror looked exactly the same as before, except that he looked a little more haggard. He was almost completely unchanged.
Jiang Cheng placed his hands on the mirror cabinet and leaned forward quite a bit before he could see his face clearly.
The alcohol made it impossible for him to concentrate, and this was the only way he could focus all his attention on his face.
Seeing his own sunken eyes in the mirror, Jiang Cheng frowned, feeling somewhat distressed.
Do you look so haggard...?
Just as he was pondering what he had gone through in the dream world to become the way he is now, a small voice appeared behind him, attracting his attention.
"who?"
Jiang Cheng turned around somewhat nervously, a hint of barely perceptible danger flashing in his eyes.
After all, this was a dimension completely unknown to him, and he had to be highly vigilant at all times.
Zhao Xuerou was startled by his "Who?" and shrugged, taking a half-step back.
They remained locked in this stalemate. One was inside the bathroom, leaning against the wall with one hand, his hair disheveled and his eyes sunken. The other was outside the bathroom, his knuckles white from the force of his grip, head bowed, arms crossed, shoulders hunched in tension, yet his eyes stubbornly held high.
Neither of them spoke; they simply stared at each other in silence.
Jiang Cheng remained silent simply because he was unaware of his own identity, nor of Zhao Xuerou's. Naturally, he wouldn't speak lightly.
But why is Zhao Xuerou also so silent?
Moreover, from the emotion revealed between her brows, he could probably tell that she seemed somewhat afraid.
After a long while, Zhao Xuerou timidly raised her head and forced out three words: "You...you're awake?"
Even when she spoke those simple three words, she stammered, which further confirmed Jiang Cheng's guess.
She was indeed afraid.
Jiang Cheng had no clue as to her "fear," let alone how to react. He could only respond to Zhao Xuerou with a muffled monosyllabic "Mmm."
"I..." Zhao Xuerou was stunned for a moment, then quickly explained, "I just heard you wake up, so I got up to check on you. I... are you thirsty? I'll go get you some water?"
Before Jiang Cheng could react, Zhao Xuerou ran to the water dispenser, seemingly to avoid contact with him.
"Beep beep—"
The water dispenser started up. Zhao Xuerou didn't need to stay by its side, but she simply squatted down with her arms crossed, quietly waiting for the indicator light to change.
Although Jiang Cheng noticed this detail, he didn't have the energy to think about it much. After all, the sharp pain in his forehead hadn't subsided yet, so he could only barely remember everything. He could analyze it later when he felt a little better.
He didn't stay where he was; instead, he turned around and sat down on the sofa in the living room.
The soft, sinking sensation finally made Jiang Cheng feel a bit more comfortable.
He closed his eyes slightly, resting his entire back and shoulders against the suede sofa back. As his spine stretched, he finally felt his headache lessen a bit.
"call……"
Take a deep breath, then exhale completely.
Jiang Cheng felt that the stickiness and sluggishness in his lungs were slowly subsiding.
This eerie silence finally ended with the second "beep" from the water dispenser.
Zhao Xuerou seemed to have no chance to escape him. She slowly got up, filled a cup with boiling hot water in a clean ceramic cup, and walked over to Jiang Cheng.
Her delicate fingers were slightly red, as if they had been scalded by hot water.
But Zhao Xuerou seemed oblivious to all of this, and respectfully handed over the cup, then lowered her head timidly and said, "Drink some water, drinking some hot water might make you feel better."
Jiang Cheng took the cup indifferently, and after feeling its intense heat, he put it down.
Upon seeing his actions, Zhao Xuerou immediately tensed up and asked, her shoulders stiff, "Did I make the water too hot? I'm sorry, I'll get you some fresh water..."
Before she could finish speaking, Jiang Cheng gently shook his head: "No need."
"……good."
Zhao Xuerou kept her head down, no longer looking at Jiang Cheng, and deliberately kept a distance from him.
Her pale toes were in her slippers as she hesitantly rubbed the hem of her clothes.
Jiang Cheng noticed her unease and turned his head slightly toward the sofa next to him: "Sit down, don't stand."
"good."
Zhao Xuerou hesitated for a moment, then chose a single sofa on the side to sit down.
She didn't sit down completely; instead, she leaned forward rather awkwardly and hugged her thin shoulders.
Even though the room wasn't cold, Jiang Cheng, who was wearing a shirt, felt his back sweating. Why did Zhao Xuerou seem so afraid of the cold? Her little gesture of keeping her distance made Jiang Cheng feel a bit strange.
However, he didn't pay much attention to it, and simply turned his gaze to the window.
The weather today should be fairly clear; at least the stars in the night sky are still clearly visible, and there aren't any large patches of dark clouds.
