Jiang Cheng lightly touched the pile of somewhat cold metal sheets with his fingertips, rummaged through them a few times, and then withdrew his hand with a slight disappointment after finding nothing of importance.
He had hoped to find some special test subjects.
Otherwise, given my slovenly personality in the dream world, how could I have organized these things so meticulously and neatly?
Having found nothing useful there, Jiang Cheng turned away, slightly disappointed.
But as he took small steps back, trying to temporarily leave the garbage heap in front of him, he accidentally kicked over a small bucket placed in the corner, from which a bunch of various small things clattered out.
"Ding-dong—"
A small, gilded box rolled out from the bottom of the bucket and slowly came to a stop at Jiang Cheng's feet. Then, with a click, the box slowly opened, revealing a mirror at the very top lying quietly on the ground, reflecting glimmers of light and revealing Jiang Cheng's face.
When he saw the small mirror covered in dust, he slowly withdrew his gaze, squatted down, and bent over to look at himself in the mirror.
Is this him from the dream world?
Jiang Cheng stared blankly at the blurry image in the mirror.
The reflection in the mirror exuded an extremely cold and sinister aura. Medium-length hair fell softly beside his ears, covering half of his face; the exposed portion, though sharply defined, possessed a strikingly handsome beauty. His long, slender eyes held a deep, weary depth, and his high, straight nose and slightly pursed lips combined to create a... melancholic beauty.
Yes, it's beautiful.
Jiang Cheng had never used the word "beautiful" to describe men before, but now it didn't seem out of place to use it on him.
"call……"
After clearly seeing the outline of his own face, Jiang Cheng slowly stood up.
The moment I stood up straight, a wave of dizziness washed over me.
"hiss!"
He braced himself against the wall beside him to steady himself. It seemed that the dizziness caused by low blood sugar made Jiang Cheng lose his sense of direction for a moment. After standing there for a long time, the white expanse in front of him finally regained color. After slowly regaining his senses, Jiang Cheng slowly walked forward.
However, in order to avoid falling to the ground in an embarrassing manner, he still tried to reduce the frequency of his steps.
His bedroom seemed to be behind that small wooden door at the end.
Jiang Cheng walked over, gently pushed open the door, and saw a simple little wooden bed quietly leaning against the window before he realized he hadn't come to the wrong place.
"call……"
He sighed again, seemingly too exhausted to support his body, or perhaps worn down by the day's events. All Jiang Cheng wanted to do was lie down and sleep.
Jiang Cheng walked slowly to the bedside and reached out to touch the several quilts on top.
Even though it wasn't cold, he had so many layers of blankets in his dream world. Was he in poor health and very afraid of the cold?
But just as he lifted the blanket, the wooden bed made a long creaking sound, perhaps because his movement was too big, or perhaps because the house was old and in disrepair and could no longer withstand such a large movement.
Jiang Cheng was inexplicably puzzled.
The sound from the bed frame just now seemed... hollow?
Thinking of this, he stretched out his leg and stepped on the floor under the bed.
Sure enough, the space under the bed was empty, clearly indicating the existence of some kind of space.
Jiang Cheng didn't hesitate at all, and immediately reached out and tapped on the somewhat rotten wooden board, trying to check if there was any mechanism.
After all, in his dream world of Japan, he was a guy covered in hidden weapons, so it was perfectly normal for him to install protective devices in such a small storage compartment.
After tapping lightly a few times to confirm that there weren't many things under the shelf and that it was likely harmless, Jiang Cheng reached under the shelf and, with a few quick movements, grabbed the brass-colored metal ring hidden between two small wooden planks, lifting the entire cover. He was extremely cautious throughout the process, fearing that some unexpected weapon might pop out and injure him.
He had just entered the dream dimension and didn't want to get hurt, especially not by himself, who was outside the dream dimension.
The allure of the "Heart of the Universe" to him is self-evident, so Jiang Cheng will do his best to complete every trial, and naturally he will be extremely cautious.
Fortunately, nothing dangerous happened as he had imagined, and he easily pulled open the not-so-heavy partition.
A damp, woody scent wafted from under the shelf, filling Jiang Cheng's nostrils. The smell wasn't unpleasant and didn't evoke any negative emotions. Looking inside, he saw a small leather trunk with a wooden frame studded with metal rivets; it looked quite old. Jiang Cheng opened the trunk and began examining its contents.
Metal rings and necklaces of unknown material, along with small bracelets inlaid with unknown gemstones—all belonging to women—lay quietly at the bottom of the small suitcase, gleaming with an ageless luster. However, they had clearly not seen the light of day for a long time, their surfaces dulled by dust and dampness.
After Jiang Cheng scanned all the items in the suitcase, he casually closed the suitcase and put the shelf shut.
Having experienced the trials of the previous dream dimension, Jiang Cheng roughly knew where the "projection" was hiding, so these seemingly unrelated pieces of jewelry naturally wouldn't catch his eye. Even if the projection might actually be hiding among these pieces, it wouldn't be too late to come back and look for it; he already had a pretty good idea of what was going on.
