These four people... how come they're walking so fast!
This is simply not the speed of a normal person! Especially since they were carrying a sedan chair that could carry two people!
Although Jiang Cheng and the red-clad maid were both of moderate build, the two of them together weighed at least 120 kilograms, plus the wooden sedan chair...
What terrifying physical strength is this?
Thinking of the extremely thin and slender limbs of the four sedan chair carriers, Jiang Cheng's doubts about this place deepened.
What an extremely strange place...
He managed to steady himself by holding onto the window frame, and naturally noticed the disdain in the red-clad maid's eyes. But he already knew that this woman had no goodwill towards him, so he simply ignored her gaze and observed everything outside through the gap in the curtains that were being lifted by the wind.
The sun had already set. A brilliant, vibrant sunset painted the horizon crimson, its edges still veiled in a thin mist, making the entire evening glow exceptionally magnificent. The setting sun gilded the deep mountains with a layer of gold, and in the desolate forest, crows cried mournfully. The light slowly faded, and it seemed the day was about to end.
In an instant, the magnificent sunset completely sank beneath the mountains and forests, leaving only a few rays of light that were completely different from the previous splendor, even somewhat... desolate.
The whole process took no more than half an hour.
Jiang Cheng also noticed that even though the four sedan chair carriers were moving extremely fast, they had already been traveling through the mountains for half an hour. The surrounding area was lush with beautiful trees and dazzling flowers. The path deep in the flowers and grass had been trodden into a relatively wide path by the sedan chair carriers, clearly the result of traveling it many times.
Haven't we arrived yet...?
Looking into the distance from the crimson forest, an extremely luxurious palace came into Jiang Cheng's view. As dusk sank below the horizon, all the palace lights were lit, finally allowing Jiang Cheng to see its complete appearance.
Nestled deep in the woods and mountains, the palace resembled a golden island, floating ethereal and dreamlike, its beauty as breathtaking as flowers seen through clouds. Jiang Cheng squinted carefully and finally discerned that the palace roof was made of golden glazed tiles, edged with red trim inlaid with some unknown gemstones. In the center stood a jeweled dome adorned with flame pearls, an extravagant display of wealth. Eight iron chains secured the dome firmly to the palace's summit.
Every pillar and palace lantern hung suspended in the air, their yellowish glow illuminating the entire water palace and cloud-like structure, making the surrounding jade trees and branches appear as if shrouded in mist. Sheer veils hung from the side halls with their carved railings and painted beams; Jiang Cheng couldn't discern whether they were embroidered flowers or paintings, only that these gossamer-thin veils swayed gently in the air, revealing the various decorations and ornaments hidden deep within the palace. The palace's grand red main gate remained tightly closed, like a colossal beast lurking in the deep mountains and forests, waiting for a "lucky one" to come to it.
This extremely unreal feeling made Jiang Cheng feel particularly strange.
As the stars faded and the moon set, birds chirped softly in Jiang Cheng's ear. As he turned his gaze away, the light reflected from the palace lights in Jiang Cheng's eyes gradually dimmed, eventually leaving only a calm.
Jiang Cheng had some knowledge of architecture, so he was well aware of how difficult it was to build this palace. Built against a mountain, the time and effort required for material preparation and labor alone were more than ten times that of ordinary buildings. As for the construction difficulty, Jiang Cheng only glanced at it a few times, but he already knew how terrifying the amount of materials used and how luxurious the materials were.
As the sedan chair bearers approached the palace, Jiang Cheng's view became clearer. The scale of this palace was far more terrifying than he had imagined; it practically occupied the entire mountaintop, with side halls and corner towers extending far along the mountainside, and some buildings even disappearing from Jiang Cheng's field of vision.
Such luxurious materials, such magnificent palaces, such terrifying construction difficulties...
Thinking back to September and the blonde girl he met during the day, and the trials they went through, Jiang Cheng seemed to understand.
This palace must be the residence of the Demu family.
The village at the foot of the mountain, where those small courtyards are located, was probably where these assassins and their servants lived and worked, which is why it was built so neatly. After all, when they weren't needed, there was no need to keep these servants with their masters.
"Tsk..."
Jiang Cheng sighed softly in his mind, his expression darkening slightly.
The situation before him was far more complicated than he had imagined.
First, he had no idea who the "Miss Jiaxian" the red-clad maid was talking about was, or what their relationship was. Second, he was just a lowly assassin who had just passed the trial and was completely at the mercy of others; what good could "Miss Jiaxian" possibly want from him?
He didn't think so.
An endless worry rose in his heart, along with a bad premonition.
But what could he do?
He was already in the sedan chair, surrounded by so many people watching, and about to be carried directly into the palace by the sedan chair bearers. There was no turning back. So even if he was worried, it would be in vain.
All we can do is prepare for what's to come...
Thinking of this, Jiang Cheng silently called out to Gu Qingwan in his mind: "Are you ready?"
"Boss, I've been here all along."
Gu Qingwan's melodious voice appeared in her consciousness the next second.
"That's good."
However, Jiang Cheng certainly wouldn't want the dream plane to shatter so easily, since he really needed to merge with the "projection".
