“Your cousin seems like a good guy, gentle and refined, and young and promising!” Jiang Cheng spat out a grape seed with a “pfft”.
“It’s just appearances,” she said, her eyes darkening as she spoke. “Actually, I’ve never told you this before. I’m from a branch of the Zhao family in Kyoto. My father was an outsider in that family, while Zhao Wunian and his branch were the original family.”
"There is a big difference between the surname outside and the surname within the family. So I suffered a lot of grievances growing up in Kyoto. I couldn't speak up when I was bullied. If I hadn't been good-looking, I would have been taken as a child bride by Zhao Wunian, and who knows how miserable my childhood would have been."
'
Jiang Cheng frowned. What kind of era is this? There's still this concept of child brides.
Isn't this a feudal custom?
"Your family is quite outrageous."
"Yes, my dad didn't want us to live a timid life, so when I was about to start high school, he had my mom bring me to Lanjing. That's when I met you, and we became classmates."
Zhao Xuerou left her sentence unfinished; what she really wanted to say was, "From that time on, you became my lapdog and started pursuing me."
But Jiang Cheng probably wouldn't want to hear such unpleasant memories.
She tactfully changed the subject.
"Actually, I've always wanted to apologize to you properly, Jiang Cheng. The children in that family are all devils, clever ones. This led me to gradually learn to pretend while being bullied, to not give my feelings, and to enjoy other people's kindness in those bad ways. This is my moral flaw... I won't do it again in the future."
Her gaze was fixed intently on Jiang Cheng, and the genuine emotion in her words was unmistakable.
The two locked eyes.
He suddenly felt the atmosphere had become a bit off...
"Are you about to confess your feelings, Zhao Xuerou?" he asked, tilting his head.
"If you could, I could confess my feelings!"
She grasped Jiang Cheng's hand, her eyes filled with sincerity.
It's a bit overwhelming.
Jiangcheng has never been good at handling such situations.
He quickly laughed it off, trying to change the subject.
"This little cake is quite delicious, hehehe."
"Strawberries are good too."
"The grapes are quite sweet too~"
Seeing that he was changing the subject, Zhao Xuerou immediately became resentful, pouting and looking unhappy.
She viciously grabbed several cakes and shoved them into Jiang Cheng's mouth with a spoon.
"Eat as much as you like!"
At the dinner party.
They exchanged toasts.
Laughter and cheers filled the air.
Time flies, slipping away unnoticed between the fingers of an elegant violin piece.
Soothing music calms people down.
The night was deep outside, and the night sky was dotted with a few stars.
"This violinist is quite good; he's quite accomplished," Jiang Cheng commented earnestly.
"Hehe, a well-established composer, the gold medalist of the Andrea Orchestra, one of the soul figures of the entire band, of course he is accomplished."
Not far from him, a hairy man wearing a baseball cap suddenly said something.
"Indeed, very professional." He expressed his agreement.
"No matter how professional you are, it's a waste to explain to someone who doesn't understand... To use an old Chinese saying, it's like playing the lute to a cow," the man in the baseball cap said, resting his chin on his hand and taking a sip of red wine with a bored expression, speaking in broken Chinese with a strange accent. "Is that the idiom?"
Jiang Cheng's smile froze on his face in an instant!
The contempt and arrogance in the man's words were fully revealed in just a few sentences.
He clearly looked down on the prominent figures of Lanjing who were listening to music in the banquet hall.
They thought it was like casting pearls before swine.
Such arrogant disdain for others... instantly touched a nerve in Jiangcheng.
"Music is for people with good taste. Look at this hall, a bunch of people who are either obsessed with money or fame and fortune. Do they deserve such a perfect performance from Omer?"
The man muttered to himself, his disdainful gaze hidden under the brim of his hat, his mocking smile concealed by his thick beard.
"There are even students and children frequenting such places... ugh."
He swirled his wine glass and crossed his legs.
Hearing these sarcastic remarks, Jiang Cheng immediately turned around and snapped, "You can't even speak Chinese properly, what are you doing here commenting on things? Wearing a hat like a weirdo, and you're even using idioms??"
"Damn it! Isn't that enough to make people wander?"
Are you speaking human language?
"Baka!"
"Forget it, let's not argue with him. This guy looks too sleazy." Zhao Xuerou pulled Jiang Cheng back from his anger.
Just as the two of them were arguing, footsteps suddenly came from behind, and a group of business elites walked over, led by Zhao Wunian.
"What's wrong, Jiang?" He immediately looked worried.
But before Jiang Cheng could speak, the man in the baseball cap interrupted, "Young Master Zhao, your guest is very impolite and seems to lack manners."
"Calm down, Brother Gangban, don't take it to heart with a child."
"snort!"
Zhao Wunian glanced at Jiang Cheng, then turned to the business tycoons and spoke.
"Let me introduce you all to this great music master from Japan, Hikawa Tsuna! He's the pianist for the Andrea Orchestra and enjoys international renown! He's won numerous prestigious awards!"
Wow? That's amazing!
"I had heard that the Andrea Orchestra had a key figure, and it turns out it was this person."
