blockhead

blockhead

Someone who had been dead for almost a week sent her a message.

This was the first thought that popped into Shen Muwei's head.

It's hard to explain this change in her mindset. The guilt has always been there, but perhaps it's because her personality, which was pampered since childhood, doesn't allow her to be subservient for long.

Zhao Ranzhu's words reminded her. She did feel guilty, but she hadn't done nothing; she'd already gone this far, what more could she ask for?

Her inherent arrogance just came out like that.

After pondering for a moment, she clicked on it anyway.

xzx: [Have you arrived at your dorm yet?]

xzx: [Can we make up?]

Maybe boys eat faster, or maybe Shen Muwei and her friends were just too slow. They ate the two plates of barbecue until the dorm was about to close before leisurely heading back.

As she left, Shen Muwei glanced around and noticed that Xiang Zhixing's table was empty.

It's possible that Xiang Zhi noticed she hadn't left while he was walking, so he came specifically to ask her.

Movie: [We've arrived.]

She only replied with the first sentence, ignoring the second one.

Song Yuanbai sent her a message saying goodnight, and she replied with a goodnight message.

After Zhao Ranzhu finished showering, she came out of the bathroom and urged the two of them to go take a shower quickly. Qian Eryun went in first, and Shen Muwei went over to brush her teeth and remove her makeup.

She didn't look at her phone during the whole process. When Qian Eryun came out, she went to the closet to get her pajamas and took a quick shower.

When I returned from my shower, everyone in the dorm had already climbed into bed. The bed curtains were gently closed, and a cozy little lamp was on inside the tent; it was very quiet.

She tiptoed to turn off the main light before climbing into her own bed.

After applying face cream, I checked my phone again and saw that Xiang Zhixing had sent me two more red envelopes.

xzx: [I've figured it out myself. This was my fault, and I apologize to you.]

Shen Muwei did not accept it.

She didn't understand what he meant. Their relationship had already deteriorated to such a point, so what was the point of him sending this kind of compensatory red envelope?

She didn't reply, turned off her phone, put it aside, and covered herself with the blanket to go to sleep.

Two minutes later, she should be asleep. She always sleeps very well; she falls asleep very quickly after closing her eyes.

But tonight, she couldn't fall asleep even after ten minutes.

She kept her eyes closed, but what kept replaying in her mind was the time in the secret room when she chased after Xiang Zhixing, causing him to faint and be taken to the hospital. Later, when Xiang Zhixing went to see a doctor and had an X-ray, she didn't ask him about the results and didn't know how he was doing.

And so, lost in thought about all these random things, she finally fell asleep. But the dream was filled with so many bizarre things; the dreamscape gradually distorted, the story became absurd and nonsensical, and many evil hands reached out towards Xiang Zhixing.

She stood in a corner, unable to move, wanting to speak to remind him to pay attention but unable to utter a sound.

She finally woke up when she screamed out.

For a moment, she was in a daze, thinking she was sleeping at home.

Inside the dimly lit bed curtains, only the small red indicator light on the power strip was on, emitting a faint glow.

She rubbed her eyes, sat up, and pulled back the bed curtains to look outside. Qian Eryun's bed curtains on the opposite bed weren't fully drawn, leaving a gap of about five centimeters. The small bedside lamp hadn't been turned off, and she could see that Qian Eryun was sleeping peacefully.

Shen Muwei habitually checked her phone for messages; it was a little past 2:10 AM Beijing time.

During the time she didn't reply to her messages, Xiang Zhixing sent her a very sincere apology message. Shen Muwei squinted and quickly skimmed through it, but she didn't have the energy to read it all. She felt a little dizzy, her mind filled with the terrifying scenes she had seen in her dream.

She wanted to save him, but it seems she really couldn't.

Besides, her red cloth bundle is still in his hands; he has to get it back.

Although she no longer felt as guilty towards him, she really couldn't just stand by and watch him die.

Right? Yes.

She asked and answered her own question.

She described her actions as rational, correct, and heroic.

It's also said that you probably owe him something, and once he's fully recovered, everything will be fine.

They also sent a handshake emoji.

Such behavior is actually to put one's mind at ease.

But this "reassurance" worked quickly. She lay down, closed her eyes, and soon fell asleep. This time, however, she truly didn't sleep a wink all night.

The next day, she woke up without any text messages or phone calls, and was full of energy.

I woke up at 8:30.

The two people in the dormitory were still asleep. Shen Muwei quietly went to wash up, came back, changed her clothes, and prepared to go out.

She'd go get breakfast first, then go home. She really needed to have a serious talk with Mu Qing about the issue of not spreading rumors.

The campus was still bustling, after all, it was only the second day of freshman registration.

Today, the cafeteria was too crowded, so she didn't eat there. Instead, she went to a small shop outside the school, ordered a basket of xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), ate them, and then went home.

On my way home by bike, I saw Mu Qing wearing an orange tracksuit running ahead of me.

She immediately caught up with him: "Teacher Mu, are you up so early to exercise?"

Mu Qing glanced at her and replied without even panting, "When I was in high school, I knew to walk, but I don't know what's wrong with me now. Even though it's such a short distance from the dormitory to home, I have to ride a bike."

"People can be lazy, you know. I didn't know electric scooters were so easy to ride before. Running is one thing, but electric scooters are simply a ray of human invention. They're energy-saving and environmentally friendly. I ride them to maintain their position and prevent them from being eliminated by the times."

Mu Qing quickened her pace as she spoke, and Shen Muwei swiftly rode ahead of her, waving and saying, "See you at home!"

"Don't let go of the handlebars while riding! Are you trying to get beaten up by showing off your skills again?!"

Shen Muwei vanished without a trace.

After waiting a while at home, Mu Qing returned from outside. She heated up the steamed buns she bought from the cafeteria in the microwave and boiled an egg for breakfast.

Before setting off, Shen Muwei thought he would teach Mu Qing a lesson, but when he got there, he didn't dare to be so presumptuous.

She nudged Mu Qing's arm: "Hey Mom, I want to talk to you about something."

"put."

Shen Muwei pouted: "Can you stop saying those things to Song Yuanbai? Didn't I tell you back then that he's not my boyfriend, just a classmate? We were only that close when we were talking about something."

Mu Qing retorted, "What did I say?"

"You're talking about me having a boyfriend? I don't have a boyfriend."

"Oh, about that?" Mu Qing leisurely took a sip of hot milk. "I didn't say you had a boyfriend. Xiao Bai must have misunderstood."

"How can this be a misunderstanding... What did you say?"

"What else could I say? I asked him if he had a girlfriend in college, and he said no. I said that Xiaowei has one or two male friends at school who she gets along with quite well. I'm your mother, would I spread rumors about you? I already said they were male friends, but he misunderstood, so who can he blame?

Mu Qing frowned slightly: "I was just joking with you in front of you. Do you think I would really go outside and talk nonsense? Your mother isn't mentally ill."

Shen Muwei breathed a sigh of relief, realizing she had misunderstood her. She lowered her voice and said somewhat unclearly, "Oh, thank you then."

Shen Muwei grabbed Mu Qing's arm and said, "Oh, I've already apologized to you, what more do you want? My mom, my good mom!"

Often, when she used this trick, Mu Qing couldn't do anything about it and couldn't help but laugh, saying, "But actually, I said that on purpose."

Shen Muwei sat up straight: "Huh?"

"Oh dear, Mom isn't really old-fashioned. You and Xiaobai grew up together, do you think I can't see the affection between you two?"

"My God! Don't talk nonsense! My friendship with Song Yuanbai is the purest of friendships!"

Mu Qing froze, speechless as she looked at her daughter, a pretty and charming girl, but unfortunately, she was brainless.

Song Yuanbai's actions were so obvious, yet she, as an adult, could see it. Of course, it's also possible that Song Yuanbai wasn't deliberately trying to hide it at all.

Unfortunately, he encountered Shen Muwei, who was as clueless about relationships as a block of wood. She didn't care about her children's affairs, and if he spoke frankly, he might do more harm than good.

She simply kept quiet, waiting for Song Yuanbai to make his own efforts. She thought that after the two kids graduated from high school, there would be a chance, but they were about to graduate from university, and there was still no progress.

Mu Qing hesitated for a moment, then compromised by saying, "I'm using reverse psychology to make this child more aware and to make him anxious."

Shen Muwei suddenly realized: "Oh! I understand what you mean. You deliberately led him to believe that I have a boyfriend, so that he would worry about not having a girlfriend, and then he would try his best to find a girlfriend in order to surpass me, right?"

Mu Qing froze, her face practically screaming "speechless" if words could be written on it.

She slowly peeled the egg she hadn't yet eaten, then said to Shen Muwei, "Open your mouth."

Shen Muwei opened his mouth in a daze, and Mu Qing stuffed an egg into his mouth.

Mu Qing: "You should eat more protein to nourish your brain, you're hopeless."

Shen Muwei took the egg and angrily took a bite.

What's wrong? Is what she said wrong?

It's really baffling.

Breakfast was handed to her, and now she could only slowly finish the eggs. When she was bored, she would look at her phone. She took her phone out of her coat pocket and saw several unread messages.

They were sent by Song Yuanbai and Xiang Zhixing, respectively.

She clicked on Song Yuanbai's first.

Xiaobai: [Where do you want to go this afternoon? My high-speed train leaves in the evening, so I can do some sightseeing.]

Movie: [I'm at home.]

He replied almost instantly: "Should I come down to find you?"

Song Yuanbai's family lives upstairs from Shen Muwei. No one is home at his house; he ate at Shen Muwei's house yesterday.

Shen Muwei placed her phone on the table and typed with her left hand: 【Come down here.】

Then she exited the dialog box that opened the item.

xzx: [To express my apology, let me treat you to dinner tonight.]

movie: [No need, it's unnecessary.]

He replied immediately: "It's still necessary. I feel very sorry, otherwise my conscience wouldn't allow it."

"Ha, you still have a conscience?" Shen Muwei's mind suddenly clicked, and she exclaimed in surprise, "Eating more eggs is actually beneficial!"

She finally figured out Xiang Zhixing's purpose in coming to reconcile with her. It must be because he hadn't been with her for the past two days and had seen ghosts more often, so he bowed his head and admitted his mistake, trying to escape in this way!

Shen Muwei finished the last bite of egg, wiped her hands with a tissue, and seemed to see right through the boy on the other side of the screen.

Movie: [Okay.]

After replying to the message, she got up in a good mood and went to check on her Brazilian tortoise in the small fish tank next to her.

The Brazilian tortoise was being silly, its four short legs flailing around in the tank.

Shen Muwei pointed at the Brazilian turtle in the fish tank and said, "Hehe, I've seen through you. Now I'll see what tricks you're up to. Eating? Fine, I'll eat you up and slaughter you!"
