She likes me.
Who is Song Yuanbai? He is one of Shen Muwei's best friends since childhood. From kindergarten to university, he has been Shen Muwei's personal follower and assistant.
Shen Muwei picked up a large piece of pungent lettuce and said, "Did I call his name again last night?"
The word "again" is very subtle; it proves that this wasn't the first time she had called Song Yuanbai's name in her dream.
This left Xiang Zhixing in a difficult position.
Shen Muwei continued, "He's my friend. We're very close. He studies in the next province and sometimes comes back on weekends. The high-speed train is very fast, only an hour round trip."
She then asked, "Did I just call him by his name? Did I say anything else?"
If it were just calling his name, he wouldn't have been so annoyed. The key is in the last sentence.
“You…you said back then, ‘Song Yuanbai, don’t go.’ I could hear the sound in your voice that you were about to cry.”
Shen Muwei was stunned, but these words also vaguely reminded her of her dream last night.
She and Song Yuanbai were both members of a rock climbing club. She dreamed that she went to Song Yuanbai and told him that she wanted to quit the club because her family was so poor that they couldn't afford to eat and she was starving.
Song Yuanbai slapped her and said fiercely, "Is that all the ambition you have? Didn't you say you really liked rock climbing? You give up so easily? What about our dreams?"
In her dream, Shen Muwei was bewildered. Rock climbing was just a hobby for her; she had no dreams about it. But the scene was oppressive, and Song Yuanbai looked very fierce. She inexplicably burst into tears.
What are our dreams?
Song Yuanbai looked at her with exasperation: "You're hopeless, I'm leaving."
Then Xiang Zhixing should have said to her, "Song Yuanbai, don't go."
This dream was truly bizarre. As his lackey, Song Yuanbai wouldn't dare slap him for being disrespectful, much less ask about his dreams. Back in his childhood, when his teacher asked about dreams, he surprisingly declared he had no dreams and would just take things one step at a time.
Fortunately, the Song family was not an old-fashioned family. When Grandpa Song heard that his grandson had no dreams, he was not angry at all. He patted his grandson's head and praised him to everyone he met: "My grandson is realistic and pragmatic."
Recalling her dream from last night, Shen Muwei only found it funny and absurd.
I couldn't help but burst out laughing.
When she smiles, her eye bags puff out, her eyes curve like crescent moons, and her dimples are sickeningly sweet.
Although he only smiled briefly and quickly stopped, Xiang Zhixing found the smile somewhat jarring, and the delicious-smelling food suddenly became unpalatable.
She explained, "It's nothing, I just felt the dream was a bit strange, so I laughed because I know him so well."
Xiang Zhixing grasped the porcelain cup beside him and brought it to his lips: "A girl?"
"The boy's other friend, a girl, is also in another province, but far away, in the north. She only comes back during winter and summer vacations."
It's better not to explain at all.
There was a slightly somber atmosphere at the end of the meal, which Shen Muwei was unaware of.
It was only when I went to pay the bill that I learned Xiang Zhixing had already paid.
She then turned her head and saw Xiang Zhixing standing to the side with his hands in his pockets, looking gloomy.
For some reason, Shen Muwei could tell from his expression that he was unhappy. Could it be that he had another headache?
She dared not speak to him.
It was midday outside, the sun was at its hottest. She noticed he wasn't wearing a hat and thought to herself, "His head must be very precious. In the current situation, it's very likely that he can't be exposed to wind, rain, or direct sunlight."
There was a boutique right next door, and she pushed Xiang Zhixing back into the hotel: "You wait here, it's cooler in here, I'll be right back."
After saying that, she ran into the boutique next door without looking back.
Xiang Zhixing didn't know what she was doing, but he couldn't really wait in the restaurant, so he silently followed her. When he saw her enter the boutique, he didn't go in, but just stood at the door and waited quietly.
The umbrellas were placed on the other side of the main entrance, where there was a large, transparent floor-to-ceiling window. Xiang Zhixing watched as she looked around, finally picking up an umbrella and coming to the entrance to pay for it.
"Hey, didn't I tell you to wait for me at the restaurant? Why did you come here?" She had just reached the cashier when she found Xiang Zhixing standing in the sun at the door.
After asking, she realized, oh right, he could only not see those dirty things when he was by her side.
Before Xiang Zhixing could answer, she nodded to herself, "Oh, I understand, I understand."
After scanning the QR code with her phone, she walked to the door, eagerly opened the umbrella, turned a conspicuous Hello Kitty pattern to a place where he couldn't see it, and then raised her right hand to hold the umbrella over his head.
Xiang Zhixing was completely stunned.
"What are you doing?"
Shen Muwei: "You need to use an umbrella. Your head definitely can't be exposed to the sun. Didn't you say you've had a headache these past few days? Sun exposure must have an effect. If we use an umbrella, it won't hurt."
He stammered, "You bought me an umbrella?"
He almost instinctively assumed that the girl running around for him actually liked him.
"Yeah, the umbrellas are all here. Isn't that obvious? Do you have a sun umbrella in your dorm?"
"No." Xiang Zhixing wanted to say, "Why would a boy use a parasol?"
Shen Muwei thought she had made the right choice. She had just seen a few umbrellas with cute patterns and wanted to buy them, but considering that he might not agree, she didn't.
"Oh, okay, here you go. You can use this umbrella to go back later."
"Give it to me?"
"Yes, your head is quite precious now, we have to protect it well."
Shen Muwei remained in the position of holding the umbrella.
He took the umbrella from her hand, his heart pounding faster, and the umbrella involuntarily tilted towards her.
Seeing his expression, Shen Muwei guessed that he probably had never used a parasol before, and laughed.
"It's not raining, you don't need to use an umbrella like that. Just point the umbrella towards the sun." As she spoke, she pointed to the direction of the sun and adjusted the position of the umbrella. In the process, she accidentally brushed against the back of his hand, but quickly withdrew it in a split second.
"See? Now neither of us can get any sun, except for our feet."
Xiang Zhixing gripped the umbrella handle tightly. The original shape of the handle left its marks on his palm, making his palm feel a little numb. But he felt that he couldn't relax, because if he did, the umbrella would seem to slip down.
He nodded blankly.
Shen Muwei took him back to school; her car was still parked in front of the affiliated hospital.
The road back to school wasn't long, and Chen Mu only sought out the shade of the trees, where the breeze was quite refreshing.
She would escort the person to their dormitory building, and then her mission would be completely complete. These past two days had almost become a mandatory task for her.
Xiang Zhixing got out of the cramped back seat of the car, carrying an umbrella in his hand.
The sun was still very strong, so he handed her the umbrella: "You can use it."
“I can’t fight,” Shen Muwei patted the handlebars of the electric scooter and spoke in a bubbly voice, “I have to ride the scooter, little sister.”
She was disgusted with herself after saying that, stuck out her tongue and shrugged: "How disgusting, I won't talk like that anymore. I'm leaving, bye-bye, watch yourself, feel free to message or call me if you need anything."
After saying that, she turned the handle and left.
Shen Muwei had to go to class after her lunch break.
In the afternoon, there was a class on the history of Chinese social thought, taught by an old professor from the college. She never dared to skip any of the classes taught by old professors in the university, because these old professors had watched her grow up since she was a toddler.
She not only never skipped class, but also arrived early and sat properly in the front row to listen attentively.
She received a message from Xiang Zhixing after class, saying that she had to go to work part-time that night.
Although he didn't say it directly, Shen Muwei understood what he meant.
Movie: [When are you going to work? I'll come and keep you company.]
After sending the message, she slung her bag over her shoulder and prepared to leave, saying goodbye to the old professor as she did so.
The two avoided suspicion at school, saying nothing and just nodding with smiles.
Xiang Zhixing replied to Shen Muwei's message.
xzx: [Maybe we should just forget it. I feel like I'm really troubling you too much.]
Shen Muwei realized that this person was unusually coy. He clearly needed her help, and they had agreed on it before, but now he suddenly didn't want it anymore. It was really inexplicable.
Movie: [We already agreed on this, no need to be so polite.]
Her implication was that they had agreed she would be paid to accompany him, and she wasn't doing it for free. Although she was the one who caused this, she didn't have the energy and patience to accompany him every time.
Xiang Zhixing seems to have misunderstood the meaning. The idea that popped into his mind at noon has now suddenly blossomed into a full bloom.
Could it be that Shen Muwei likes me?
Then what other basis is there? Just her guilt? Can guilt last this long?
Once a person has a suspicion in their mind, recalling past events can be like a sudden enlightenment. When meeting Shen Muwei again with this suspicion in mind, one can't help but delve into the meaning behind her every action.
Shen Muwei was unaware of his thoughts, and the two arranged to meet at the north gate of the student dormitory.
I don’t know if it’s just my imagination, but I feel like Xiang Zhixing is more awkward than usual. His behavior is strange, and he blushes all the time. What’s going on?
He was already fair-skinned, and when his face turned red, it became even more noticeable. Combined with his appearance, Shen Muwei thought he would look very good in women's clothing.
Shen Muwei: "How do we get there? Should we call a car?"
Xiang Zhixing was still wearing a hat. His eyes, hidden under the brim, looked away from her for a moment, and he nodded: "I've already called a car."
It's rush hour right now, and the cars are stuck in traffic, moving very slowly.
After waiting and waiting without seeing anything, Shen Muwei started playing with her hair.
But her hair was too short, and a clump of it was pulled out. You had to look at her sideways. Her head was slightly tilted, and her big eyes made her look somewhat innocent.
