Chapter 22 The Promised Token

"Mei'er, I'm so tired." Everyone else, including Dean Jiang, had left, leaving only Bai Yueyue and Hu Mei'er. Bai Yueyue then revealed her true colors, "Why is class so difficult?"

“Young Miss, please don’t make that face. It’s not good if someone sees you like that,” Hu Meier said, trying to soothe Bai Yueyue who was about to slouch. “Besides, Young Miss has already done her best. It’s just that they don’t appreciate your kindness. In the capital, other nobles just finish the lesson in one go.”

How could they do this? Bai Yueyue couldn't help but feel dissatisfied. If they just finished explaining, wouldn't they not care whether the children could understand or not?

If Hu Meier knew what Bai Yueyue was thinking, she would definitely answer: Because only the young lady would care about these children, while the noble adults would not care about these beautification "tools".

"Miss, would you like me to remove the flower wreath from your head?" Hu Meier asked in a rather strange tone, looking at the flower wreath on Bai Yueyue's head.

"Please take it with you when you leave to keep it safe. If you take it off now, they will be very sad." Bai Yueyue didn't want to see the disappointed looks in the lovely children's eyes again.

"But the young lady is leaving now, since she has already finished her courses, right?"

"Huh? But they've all gone to prepare lunch. Should I wait until I've finished lunch before leaving?"

“What are you saying, Miss? Given your status, how could they possibly have lunch with you? Besides, this is for your safety.”

Hu Meier, don't look at them with such disdain! Besides, I don't think they would poison me.

"That's a real shame. Please have Dean Jiang come over so I can say goodbye." Although she really wanted to stay for dinner, she figured staying would only cause trouble for everyone. So, she decided it was best to leave.

"Yes, Miss." Hu Meier took out a walkie-talkie and began to give orders to the servants outside.

It wasn't long before Dean Jiang rushed back in a hurry, even sweating profusely.

"Miss Bai..."

A nearly seventy-year-old person running all this way must be very tired. I'm so sorry that my words made you go through all that trouble.

"Please take a moment to recover," Bai Yueyue reminded Dean Jiang, who was almost collapsing. Behind Bai Yueyue, Hu Meier was displaying a dangerous expression.

"Phew," Dean Jiang finally regained his composure after letting out a long sigh, and asked Bai Yueyue respectfully and carefully, "Was there anything we did wrong?"

"No, I'm not bothering you by coming here. I'm leaving now and just wanted to let you know," Bai Yueyue replied. "I came here intending to provide a donation of 200,000 yuan, but because I imposed a punishment on you requiring you to report to me weekly on the children's condition at the orphanage, my personal attendant told me that I will continue to oversee the orphanage. Therefore, I will discuss the donation and other matters with Mother. This time, I'm only giving you this 200,000 yuan donation, and you must provide me with a detailed list of each expenditure. I will then arrange for someone to assist you."

"Yes, Miss Bai, my children and I are deeply grateful for your kindness."

Waving her hand, Bai Yueyue got up and, led by Dean Jiang, bypassed the kitchen where the children were. After all, Bai Yueyue didn't want to experience the sadness of separation again, especially not to face those disappointed eyes.

"Sister Bai..."

However, things didn't go as planned. I thought I could avoid meeting the children by avoiding the kitchen, but I still ran into Ye Xinya.

Looking at the little cutie's disappointed and sad eyes, Bai Yueyue felt a pang of pity. She had no idea why she had to leave.

"Xinya, why aren't you in the kitchen preparing lunch with everyone?" Bai Yueyue asked softly before everyone could chase Ye Xinya away.

"I'm going to deliver medicine to Sister Xiaojiang," Ye Xinya said, her bright eyes fixed on Bai Yueyue.

Don't look at me like that, it makes me feel really guilty.

"Oh, I see. It's a pity I didn't get to see her this time. I sincerely hope she recovers soon. Xinya, why don't you go to the kitchen and help everyone prepare lunch?"

"Is Sister Bai leaving?"

Like an abandoned puppy, Ye Xinya's eyes told Bai Yueyue directly that she didn't want Bai Yueyue to leave.

Waaah, if I could, I wouldn't want to leave either.

"Xinya, Miss Bai needs to leave. Behave yourself." Dean Jiang immediately stepped forward, trying to pull Ye Xinya aside to make way for Bai Yueyue, but Ye Xinya was adamant and did not want Bai Yueyue to leave at all.

“It’s alright, Dean Jiang,” Bai Yueyue stepped forward and placed her hand on Ye Xinya’s head. “I’m also reluctant to leave you, but I have things to do that I must take care of. I will definitely come back to see you after I’ve finished these things.”

"Really?" Ye Xinya looked at Bai Yueyue, her eyes still filled with unease.

“Of course it’s true,” Bai Yueyue withdrew her hand, used magic to create a four-leaf clover necklace, and put it on Ye Xinya’s head under Hu Meier’s incredulous expression. “This is the token of our promise. Sister will definitely come back.”

Not only that, Bai Yueyue also left some magic inside. If Ye Xinya encounters danger, the magic inside will be enough to protect the entire orphanage until Bai Yueyue arrives.

"The young lady really spoils them too much." After leaving the orphanage, Hu Meier said somewhat unhappily as she received the magically protected flower wreath from Bai Yueyue in the car.

"Oh dear, is Mei'er jealous? But I think I spoil Mei'er a lot too." Bai Yueyue smiled as she looked at Hu Mei'er sitting next to her, pouting as she carefully put away the flower wreath.

"No way!"

"It's okay, your young lady is very gentle and understanding, I will pamper you well too~ like patting your head or something."

Ever since experiencing the pleasure of touching other people's heads, Bai Yueyue has fallen in love with this feeling.

"Please, Miss, don't do that." Hu Meier seemed very resistant and resolutely refused to let Bai Yueyue touch her head.

"What a pity." Bai Yueyue lowered her eyes and pursed her lips gently, as if she was about to burst into tears.

"Even so, Miss, I will not agree to you doing this."

"That's outrageous!"

“Miss, you should decide now whether to go directly to Lin Zhaodi’s house or return to the manor for lunch first.” Hu Meier turned her head away, not wanting to look at Bai Yueyue’s willful appearance, otherwise she might actually agree to Bai Yueyue’s request.

"Go find Lin Zhaodi. I've already told Mother that we won't be going back to the manor for lunch today. After we pick Lin Zhaodi up, we'll find somewhere else to eat. Also, let everyone else go back; we don't need so many people following us now."

"Yes, Miss."
