Chapter 247 Her arrival was somewhat unnecessary.
"Xiaorou, what brings you here?"
Shen Yan's expression showed a hint of disdain.
Chu Rou was a little confused. Why was she so annoying? She glanced at Huang Shan, then looked down at Shen Yan, and finally realized when she saw their hands clasped together, "I've disturbed your time together!"
Huang Shan shook her head.
Shen Yan hummed in agreement. "Why didn't you come earlier or later? You had to come right when I was about to confess my feelings."
Chu Rou's eyes widened in disbelief that Shen Yan could say such a thing, but it was indeed Shen Yan lying on the bed. She pointed to the door and asked, "Should I leave?"
"Hmm!" Shen Yan turned his head away and stopped looking at Chu Rou.
Chu Rou stood there awkwardly. They were really letting her leave? She had flown all the way here.
"Sister Chu Rou," Huang Shan said, feeling a little awkward. She cleared her throat and whispered, "Brother Shen Yan seems to still be asleep. He thinks he's dreaming."
Upon hearing Huang Shan's words, Shen Yan froze.
Chu Rou reached out and pinched Shen Yan's arm. "Does it hurt?"
Shen Yan glanced at Chu Rou and said, "It hurts!"
Chu Rou released Shen Yan's arm, and Shen Yan released Huang Shan's hand, creating a somewhat strange atmosphere.
Shen Yan glanced around and realized he was lying in a hospital bed. He only remembered that his stomach problems had flared up, and he had no recollection of anything after that. "How did I end up in a hospital?"
“You collapsed from shock due to a perforated stomach,” Huang Shan explained. “Have you been eating poorly lately and staying up late frequently? Are you risking your life for money?”
"I was so scared when I got the call that I cried. I didn't know what to do, so I called Sister Chu Rou. Sister Chu Rou rushed over from City B. We haven't dared to tell Uncle Shen and Aunt Shi yet!"
Huang Shan chattered on and on, and Shen Yan's eyes lit up with a smile. He missed her constant chatter.
“Brother Shen Yan, how can you still be laughing? Do you know how serious a stomach perforation is? Fortunately, the perforation area is not large this time. If the area were larger, part of the stomach would have to be removed,” Huang Shan continued.
"You were scared and cried?" Shen Yan seized on the key point in Huang Shan's words. "Were you worried about me?"
Huang Shan shut her mouth, her face flushed red, and she lowered her head.
Chu Rou felt that she had come unnecessaryly, so she stood up and said, "I'd better leave! You two can have a good talk."
"Sister Chu Rou," Huang Shan looked up shyly, "Aren't you going to care about Brother Shen Yan anymore?"
“He seems fine to me. You’re more effective than a doctor here,” Chu Rou glanced at Shen Yan. “Shan Shan, thank you for staying by his bedside for two days. I’ll tell my mom and Uncle Shen once Shen Yan can eat.”
"I'm leaving!" Chu Rou left the ward without looking back.
Only Shen Yan and Huang Shan remained in the ward.
Huang Shan was extremely nervous; she kept her head down, not daring to look at Shen Yan.
Shen Yan stared intently at Huang Shan.
Time seemed to stand still. After a long while, Shen Yan finally spoke, "Shanshan, do you still love me?"
Huang Shan's voice was barely audible, "Mmm!"
Shen Yan's brows relaxed. "You... do you also know how I feel?"
Huang Shan glanced at Shen Yan, then lowered her eyes, her cheeks flushed. "I just found out."
Shen Yan reached out and took Huang Shan's hand, noticing that her palms were sweaty. "Are you nervous?"
"I'm nervous," Huang Shan bit her lower lip. "Brother Shen Yan, is everything you said before true?"
"You're working so hard to earn money to pay me back, not to distance yourself from me, right?"
Shen Yan frowned. "When did I say I wanted to sever ties with you? I've always thought about paying off the money before confirming our relationship. I don't want your family to look down on me, so I'm in a hurry to make money as much as I can."
"But I was still too late, wasn't I?"
"Huh? It's not late!" Huang Shan looked up, puzzled. "What's late?"
"Do you have a boyfriend?" Shen Yan held Huang Shan's hand tightly and asked the question that had puzzled him for a long time.
His eyes were fixed intently on the answer, his heart pounding, eager to hear one that pleased him.
"I don't have a boyfriend. I like you, so why would I date another man? That would be disrespectful to everyone's feelings."
Huang Shan answered seriously, which made Shen Yan very happy.
"Who was the boy that day?" Shen Yan continued to press.
"Which boy?" Huang Shan was completely confused; she wasn't with that boy!
"It was the boy who chased you out of the library the day I paid you back. He even touched your hair." Shen Yan remembered every detail. That image had been constantly in his mind for some time, making him extremely irritable.
Huang Shan stared blankly for a long time before finally realizing who it was. "You mean Senior Liu? I was in such a hurry to see you that day that I left my notes behind. He was sitting next to me at the time, and when he noticed, he chased after me to bring them to me."
"Touched my hair?" Huang Shan thought for a moment, "I remember now, there was a leaf on my head, and my senior just took it off for me."
Huang Shan looked at Shen Yan, "You saw everything back then? And then you misunderstood? Why didn't you ask me then?"
Huang Shan's three questions silenced Shen Yan. Yes, why didn't he ask her clearly back then? If he had, he would have confessed his feelings to Shan Shan, and they could have been together.
"I was wrong!" Shen Yan looked at Huang Shan with tenderness in his eyes. "Shan Shan, will you be my girlfriend?"
Huang Shan heard her own heartbeat. She had been waiting for this day for a long time. The sudden happiness made her so excited that tears welled up in her eyes and fell one by one.
Shen Yan was at a loss. He had never comforted a girl before and didn't know why Huang Shan was crying.
He tried to sit up to comfort Huang Shan, but he aggravated his surgical wound, broke out in a cold sweat from the pain, and fell back onto the hospital bed.
Huang Shan was terrified. She quickly stood up, ignoring the tears streaming down her face. "Brother Shen Yan, how are you? You can't move around right now, you still have a feeding tube in your stomach!"
Shen Yan paused for a moment, his voice weakening slightly, "I'm fine, Shanshan, don't cry, it's all my fault."
Huang Shan wiped away her tears and laughed, "I'm crying tears of joy. I've finally heard you say that. I agree to be your girlfriend."
"Really?" Shen Yan's eyes lit up.
"Of course it's true, are you kidding me?" Huang Shan asked, pouting.
“I’m serious,” Shen Yan said with a smile. “Shanshan, I have no regrets even if I die in this life.”
"Don't talk nonsense!" Huang Shan covered Shen Yan's mouth.
...
Chu Rou wandered out of the hospital alone, feeling that she had been a bit redundant to come over. However, seeing the behavior of Huang Shan and Shen Yan, she knew that good things were about to happen, and she was genuinely happy.
Chu Rou checked the time; it was already 11 p.m.
The hospital is not far from her Longxiangyuan, only a ten-minute walk away. With the weather getting hot, there are still some pedestrians strolling along the roadside.
She hasn't taken a walk alone at night in a long time, and it's quite annoying to always have bodyguards following her when she goes out.
Chu Rou decided to walk back.
The road was fine, with cars and people, but once inside the residential area, it became eerily quiet. Chu Rou wasn't afraid of bad people, but she was afraid of ghosts.
She always felt like something was following her, but when she turned around several times, she saw nothing.
Chu Rou quickened her pace and headed home.
She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the entrance to her building, but her heart jumped again as she smelled blood in the air.
