Chapter 90 Brother Shen Yan, I can be your shield
Chu Rou was naturally delighted that Shen Yan could go. She nodded and said, "That's great. Shan Shan will be very happy to see you too."
Shen Yan went back to his room to change his clothes, and the two of them went downstairs together.
Chu Rou drove, and Shen Yan sat in the passenger seat. He had been drinking that night and couldn't drive.
The two were chatting casually when Chu Rou's phone suddenly rang.
She glanced at it; it was a video call from Mo Chi.
Mo Chi returned to City B. He didn't have time to contact Chu Rou during the day, and they could only video chat for a while before going to bed at night.
Mo Chi didn't know she was going to pick up Huang Shan that evening, and the phone rang right then and there.
Afraid that Mo Chi might say something inappropriate, Chu Rou answered the video call first, "Mo Bao, I'm driving. I'll call you back in a bit."
Mo Chi leaned against the headboard, shirtless. Seeing that Chu Rou was indeed driving on the screen, he sat up straight and asked worriedly, "Where are you driving to in the middle of the night?"
"I went to the airport to pick up Huang Shan; she's back," Chu Rou explained.
Mo Chi frowned. "What is she doing? It's not safe for you to be alone so late."
Chu Rou turned her phone to a different angle so that Shen Yan could be in the frame, saying, "Don't worry, Brother Shen Yan is coming with me!"
"Don't worry," Mo Chi said, even more uneasy seeing Chu Rou and Shen Yan together. "Oh, Shen Yan is here. Then you can drive carefully."
"OK."
Just as Chu Rou was about to say she was hanging up, she heard Mo Chi say again, "I'll chat with Brother Chen Yan for a while."
Shen Yan: ...
He didn't want to talk to him.
Chu Rou thought it was a good idea, so she turned her phone camera completely towards Shen Yan, allowing him to video chat with Mo Chi.
Shen Yan and Mo Chi stared at each other without saying a word. Mo Chi didn't hang up either, just staring intently at Shen Yan.
Shen Yan knew Mo Chi's little scheme but didn't want to point it out. He lowered his head to look at his phone.
Mo Chi kept a close watch on Shen Yan's every move, never letting his guard down for a moment.
Chu Rou was focused on driving and didn't notice the two of them.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the airport. After parking the car, Chu Rou realized that Mo Chi and Shen Yan hadn't said a word.
She picked up her phone from the stand and noticed that Mo Chi hadn't hung up. "Mo Bao, why don't you go to sleep first? It'll be very late for me here."
"No," Mo Chi refused, wishing he could fly to Chu Rou's side and kick away all the men around her. "I want to keep watching you."
Chu Rou also missed Mo Chi. The two could only talk for a while before going to bed at night, so she went along with him and didn't hang up the phone.
The two couldn't chat for long; Chu Rou held her phone and would glance at the ink pool on the screen whenever she had a spare moment.
They would smile at each other, and Mo Chi would occasionally kiss her.
Shen Yan would occasionally catch a glimpse of it, then purse his lips, thinking how sickeningly sweet it was.
Huang Shan's flight arrived early, and when she came out and saw Shen Yan, her face beamed with joy.
She completely ignored Chu Rou and ran towards Shen Yan, "Brother Shen Yan, why did you come to pick me up too?"
Shen Yan gave a faint "hmm," and said, "It's too late. I'm worried about your safety, you two girls."
He politely took the suitcase from Huang Shan's hands.
Huang Shan then put her arm around Chu Rou's arm and said, "Thank you for your hard work, Sister Chu Rou."
Mo Chi was relieved to see Huang Shan arrive. He said goodnight to Chu Rou and then hung up.
Chu Rou pretended to be angry, "I thought you could only see Brother Shen Yan!"
"No way, you're like my second parents."
Chu Rou quickly refused, lowering her voice to say, "Don't use those words carelessly. I might have to call you sister-in-law in the future."
“I’ll answer you if you call me now.” Huang Shan said, then glanced at Shen Yan.
Chu Rou secretly pinched Huang Shan's waist, "You're shameless enough, I like that."
The two of them laughed and joked, leaving Shen Yan standing to the side.
"Huang Shan, where are you staying tonight?" Shen Yan suddenly asked.
Huang Shan blinked. "I don't know, I haven't thought about that."
"You can come back to my mom's with me, but you'll have to sleep in the same bed as me," Chu Rou suggested.
Huang Shan had no objections, but Shen Yan felt it was inappropriate. "Why don't you stay at my place? I'll go back to the Shen family home."
“Great!” This was exactly what Huang Shan wanted. “However, I might have to bother Brother Shen Yan for a while. I can only go back to school after the semester starts.”
"It's alright!" Shen Yan didn't dislike Huang Shan. She would help him prepare three meals a day and would only come to him when she couldn't understand something. Otherwise, she wouldn't bother him. She was a very qualified apprentice.
The three drove to Longxiangyuan. Chu Rou looked at the time and it was already late at night, so she suggested, "Let's all stay here tonight! It's too late, let's not bother with anything else."
Shen Yan agreed. He and Huang Shan first took Chu Rou home, and then went back downstairs together.
After entering the room, Shen Yan asked Huang Shan, "Why did you suddenly come back here? Weren't you going to spend the New Year at home?"
"My parents are getting a divorce, and I can't stay at home anymore. Luckily, Brother Shen Yan took me in." Huang Shan pretended to be very sad, her lips twitching.
Heaven knows how hard Huang Shan endured it; this lie was even fabricated by her own mother.
This way, Shen Yan can empathize with the situation, which will bring the two of them closer.
Shen Yan knew nothing about Huang Shan's family; this was the first time he had heard Huang Shan mention her family.
Seeing Huang Shan's sad appearance reminded him of what had happened during the day, and he couldn't help but feel sad as well. "Then you can stay here in peace."
"Thank you, Brother Shen Yan," Huang Shan said, pointing to her previous room. "Am I staying in that room again?"
Shen Yan nodded. "The things inside haven't been touched."
Huang Shan glanced at Shen Yan's expression and asked cautiously, "I heard from Sister Chu Rou that your fiancée is here. Will she misunderstand if I stay here?"
Shen Yan raised an eyebrow. He hadn't expected Chu Rou to be so gossipy, telling Huang Shan everything. "She's not my fiancée, so you can stay here without worry."
Huang Shan smiled and said, "Then I'm relieved. If you need a shield, I can lend it to you."
This trick was personally taught to her by her mother, who said that she should first make everyone misunderstand that they were a couple. With enough misunderstandings, Shen Yan would become too lazy to explain, and then it might turn from a lie into a truth.
Shen Yan was stunned, pondering the feasibility of Huang Shan's suggestion.
It doesn't seem like it's impossible. He was so annoyed by Heidi's constant pestering that he thought he could escape back to China, but unexpectedly, she followed his mother back to China.
Shen Yan frowned. "But this might make you feel wronged."
His mother's fighting prowess is extraordinary, and with the troublesome Heidi added to the mix, he feared Huang Shan wouldn't be able to handle it.
“It’s okay,” Huang Shan smiled. “I won’t take anything she says to heart.”
Shen Yan was tempted. This way, perhaps his mother and Heidi could leave as soon as possible, and he could live a comfortable life for a while.
"Then I'll have to trouble you!"
