Su Yuxi leaned leisurely against the tree trunk, looking up at Zhong Yan on the tree. She suddenly wanted to eat bird eggs and wanted to climb up herself, but he wouldn't let her and insisted on climbing up herself.
It took a tremendous amount of effort to climb up the tree.
This tree looks quite tall. I wonder if a human's small frame can withstand it. If it falls, it will break into pieces.
"Did you see that? Are there any bird eggs?"
Zhong Yan hugged the thick branch and carefully reached out with his other hand to take down the bird's nest.
There were four eggs in total. He glanced at the person under the tree and initially thought of taking all four, but then he decided to put one back. At least when the mother bird returned, there would be one egg left to hatch.
"Yes, I took three."
"Three is so few." Su Yuxi was a little disappointed.
"Be careful when you come down."
Just as he was about to get off, the sky suddenly filled with the roar of helicopters, and there was more than one, a dense swarm of them.
Those helicopters formed a dense net against the azure sky, leaving no escape.
Zhong Yan instinctively felt that the group of people had come to arrest someone again, and with such a large commotion, he shouted to the people below, "Quickly, hide!"
Su Yuxi did not move. She raised her head high, stood up straight, and calmly watched the helicopters shuttling back and forth. The number of them was even greater than last time, and the scene was extremely spectacular.
However, she showed no panic; instead, she smiled and cheerfully called out to Zhong Yan in the tree, "Come down quickly!"
He then ran quickly toward an open space.
Zhong Yan was filled with doubt, not knowing what she wanted to do, but when he saw her running outside, his heart jumped, and he quickly slid down from the tree.
Su Yuxi arrived at an open space and jumped around, waving and shouting. Perhaps because this area was relatively secluded and too insignificant to the people above, her shouts echoed in the forest for a long time without attracting their attention.
As she looked down, she saw the dry firewood on the ground and instantly thought of a brilliant idea.
She quickly gathered the firewood into a pile, and Zhong Yan followed the trail she had taken.
"Quick, give me a lighter." Su Yuxi didn't turn around, but reached out her hand to the person behind her.
Zhong Yan, upon seeing this, already knew that the people who had come to find them were more like friends than enemies, which meant that their journey would end today.
Su Yuxi couldn't get the lighter for a while, so she looked back and saw Zhong Yan's conflicted and slightly disappointed expression: "What are you doing? Give it to me."
Zhong Yan snapped out of her daze and met her excited yet anxious gaze. She was probably afraid of missing the helicopter.
"Hurry up!" Su Yuxi urged again.
Zhong Yan reluctantly handed her the lighter.
A short while later, a wisp of white smoke rose from the vast jungle.
The people in the helicopter received the signal and called out on the intercom. Immediately, a helicopter emerged and flew towards them.
High above the azure sky, hundreds of meters above the ground, Fu Huaijin stood by the helicopter window, his gaze piercing through the strong wind, looking down at the girl he hadn't seen for many days with deep affection and urgency.
Su Yuxi tilted her head back, waving her hands happily, her face blooming with a smile as beautiful as a flower. Seeing him was like seeing salvation; perhaps she had been hoping for someone to come and save her for a long time.
As the roar of the helicopter rotors gradually subsided, and the helicopter stabilized at a certain altitude, the pilot lowered the ladder.
Su Yuxi, finding the wind too strong, had already moved far away.
Fu Huaijin gripped the ladder tightly and descended. When the helicopter was still three or four meters above the ground, he couldn't wait to let go and jump down.
Normally, this height wouldn't be a problem for him, but he forgot that he had just struggled back from the brink of death.
The moment his feet touched the ground, his body seemed to be frozen in place by an invisible force. He remained silent for a long time before suppressing the deep pain in his bones and slowly straightening up with astonishing willpower.
Su Yuxi watched the helicopter leave, and the area returned to calm. Only then did she run out of the woods. When she saw that it was really Fu Huaijin, her heart raced and her eyes were filled with joy and excitement. She opened her arms and ran eagerly toward the man.
Fu Huaijin ran towards her without hesitation, and the two embraced tightly halfway there, as if they wanted to meld each other into one another.
At that moment, their rapidly beating hearts overlapped, and everything around them vanished into nothingness, leaving only the sound of their breathing.
"Xixi, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting."
"You're so annoying, taking so long to come. I thought you were dead." Su Yuxi was tightly wrapped in a gentle yet firm embrace. The grievances and heartache she had felt during these past few days of wandering finally found a haven to vent. Her eyes welled up with tears, and her voice unconsciously became choked with emotion.
"It's good that you're dead. I'll inherit your estate then. I have more money than I can spend."
Fu Huaijin hugged her tighter, his voice trembling slightly: "Okay, after I die, all my property will belong to you."
Su Yuxi pouted. She dared not covet his business empire. If the heir didn't have a business mind, he would squander it all. She also didn't have time to manage his money. She only wanted 10 billion.
Suddenly, a bloody smell wafted into her nostrils, and Su Yuxi's expression changed drastically. Her first reaction was to break free from his embrace and look him up and down: "Where are you injured?"
Fu Huaijin didn't reply to her, but instead took her hand and examined the insignificant wound. He remembered that she had bitten his ring finger.
Is your finger better?
"Does it hurt?"
Su Yuxi's lips twitched twice. She reached out and touched his body, only to find traces of blood. Her voice was filled with shock: "Are you crazy? You jumped down like that while injured."
"You really don't want to live anymore."
Fu Huaijin, however, did not take it seriously. Seeing her anxious face, his expression softened even more, and he then revealed a hint of hurt: "It's okay, it will be alright."
Su Yuxi rolled her eyes at him: "But you have to take care of your body. If you jump down like that, you'll either die from the fall or be in excruciating pain."
Fu Huaijin took her hand again, blew on the wound that was almost healed, gently stroked her hair, hugged her tightly again, smelled her scent, and said in a soft voice with absolute trust: "No, as long as Xixi is here, she won't let me die."
Su Yuxi gave a haughty snort, thinking to herself: You actually believe me.
Zhong Yan, standing silently in the shade of the tree, watched the two people embracing tightly. His eyes were lowered, and there seemed to be a little loneliness hidden beneath them. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, dappling his handsome face and adding a touch of soft light and shadow to his features.
That man was handsome, and I was less than a tenth of his size. He also had an extraordinary demeanor and the ability to mobilize such a large number of military aircraft. His strength was not to be underestimated; he was someone like me, living in the slums, who dared not look up to.
