Su Yuxi's lips twitched twice. She was just being polite, but he actually started ordering her around.
It's true that it's hard to refuse when living under someone else's roof.
She put down the chicken leg with a troubled expression, took a tissue to wipe the grease off her hands, and then slowly stood up from the chair, giving the sickly Fu Huaijin a complicated look.
His eyes were sunken, his face was ashen, his lips were gray, and his body looked extremely thin and fragile, a stark contrast to the powerful man who had killed a bear the night before.
"Why don't we let him stay in the hospital for a few days? It's not good for him to come out looking like this..." Su Yuxi said tactfully, because she was really afraid that he would suddenly die and then cling to her.
Chu Juan seemed oblivious to her underlying meaning and smiled, saying, "He's not used to staying in the hospital and insists on coming back. I'm busy with things these few days, so could you please take care of him for me?"
Su Yuxi thought she had misheard, pointed to the tip of her nose with her finger, and said in disbelief, "I took care of him."
"I don't know how to take care of others; I can't even take care of myself."
What a joke! What kind of illusion makes them feel like they're a nanny?
Chu Juan knew she wasn't telling the truth, so he smiled and brushed aside her resistance: "Didn't you take good care of Lu Yunzhou?"
"Your ability to take care of people is well-known in the industry, and I believe you can do it too."
Su Yuxi curled her lips: I really appreciate your praise. Taking care of Lu Yunzhou is not the same as taking care of a man who might go crazy at any moment.
She's just staying here temporarily; if things get really bad, she'll move out. She doesn't want to take on this huge problem.
Chu Juan looked at her darting eyes and, although they hadn't known each other for long, he could tell at a glance what she wanted to say.
He didn't say much else, and simply took out his phone and transferred some money to her.
"Could you please take care of it for me for a few days? I'll do it once I've finished developing the medicine. How about I give you 100,000 a day? Is that alright?"
Su Yuxi's eyes lit up when she saw the amount. She smacked her lips twice, swallowing back her words of refusal, and smiled brightly and boldly: "It's not impossible. I'm usually home alone and don't have much to do, so taking care of you is fine."
She earns 100,000 a day, more than even the top caregivers. Why would she refuse?
Chu Juan knew her little tricks, so he didn't expose her: "Okay, then you keep an eye on him. I have some things to do at the hospital. Call me if anything happens."
"Okay, you go ahead and do what you need to do." Su Yuxi immediately turned into a puppy dog, her face beaming with a charming smile, and considerately saw the person out.
After everyone left, she lifted her skirt lightly and skipped into the kitchen to prepare food for the family's little chicken.
Fu Huaijin didn't utter a single word the entire time, sitting alone in his wheelchair, staring blankly at the food on the table.
He didn't come to his senses until a steaming bowl of porridge was placed in front of him.
"Eat up, chicken and mushroom congee, it's delicious."
"Go back and get some sleep after you finish eating, and you'll feel better tomorrow." That's how her sisters comforted her when she was sick. Although they later found out that it was mostly a lie, it was still comforting.
"Hmm." Fu Huaijin was probably really badly injured, because even his response was weak and barely audible.
He stared indifferently at the bowl of steaming porridge, his expression unreadable. Perhaps he had been preparing himself for this moment, for he slowly reached out and picked up a spoon, stirring it gently. As the steam dissipated, the porridge grew almost cold, but he still couldn't bring himself to put a mouthful in his mouth.
Su Yuxi kept a close eye on his movements. Although he didn't show anything unusual on his face, his hand holding the spoon was trembling slightly, as if he was using all his strength to hold the spoon steady.
Has this person become this weak?
After thinking for a moment, she put down her chopsticks, moved closer to him, and under his puzzled gaze, took the spoon from his hand, stirred it gently a couple of times, and with an almost caring gesture, scooped up a spoonful of porridge and held it to his lips. Otherwise, at his snail's pace, he would starve to death before he could even get a bite.
"Eat up. I promised Chu Juan I'd take good care of you."
Fu Huaijin blinked gently, staring intently at her. Just moments ago, this woman had wanted to kick him out, but now, for 100,000 yuan a day, she could immediately put on a smiling face and go to some unknown place with someone for a million yuan. Should he say she was greedy for money, or should he say she loved money more than life itself?
"Hurry up." She's been feeding him herself, and she must be exhausted after holding him up for so long.
Just as she was about to pry his mouth open herself, the man finally opened his mouth.
Once you get the first bite, you get the second, the third, and the rest goes much more smoothly.
When Su Yuxi took the bowl away, Fu Huaijin realized that he had finished the whole bowl of porridge.
Perhaps it was the porridge that suited his taste today.
After feeding him, Su Yuxi took a tissue and gently wiped his mouth, treating him like a precious porcelain doll with no human abilities, requiring careful protection in everything.
After taking good care of him, she happily ran off to eat her own chicken leg. Once she was full, she diligently tidied up everything and put everything back in its place, without a trace of the coquettishness or affectation expected of a pampered woman.
When she came out, Fu Huaijin drove his wheelchair to block the doorway. His hand rested on the wheelchair, his fingers with distinct knuckles, the back of his hand pale, and the veins on it clearly visible.
"Didn't I turn on the TV for you? Why aren't you sitting there watching TV?"
"I want to drink water."
Su Yuxi stared at him for a few seconds, cursing inwardly, "What's wrong with him? He managed to get through this on his own, why can't he just collapse?"
Although I cursed him a thousand times in my heart, my body still honestly poured him a glass of water.
"Here you go." Su Yuxi handed the water to him, but Fu Huaijin didn't reach out to take it. He raised his chin slightly, as if indicating that she should feed him.
Su Yuxi was so angry that she wanted to pour water on his head.
She went back to the kitchen, found a straw, and now he'd have nothing to say.
He really had nothing to say, so he took a sip of water through the straw, but after only two sips, he refused to drink anymore.
"I want to drink..."
Su Yuxi rolled her eyes at him: "I want to dig a hole."
"What?" Fu Huaijin didn't notice her sarcasm and raised his upper lip to ask seriously.
"I said I'll dig a hole and bury you after you finish drinking." She thought he must have lost his mind. He was barely breathing and still wanted to drink. It would be easier to just bury him.
Fu Huaijin choked, then let out a soft laugh.
"You should go back to your room and sleep now." She pushed him to the top of the stairs, but then hesitated to go up.
Where do you live?
"Push me to the third room on the first floor."
"Okay..." It would be best to just throw it downstairs without having to go upstairs.
