After finishing his important conversation with them, Fu Huaijin ignored their attempts to persuade him to stay and hurriedly returned to the villa, fearing that if he was too slow, the people inside would disappear.
The moment he stepped into the room, the scene before him left him stunned.
When I left, the mother and daughter were sleeping peacefully in bed, and they were still sleeping when I returned.
The difference is that his beautiful wife has turned into a snow-white fox with silky fur, surrounded by a faint golden light.
My adorable and cuddly daughter has grown into a little fox, slightly larger than the palm of my hand, jumping and playing happily on the bed, her silvery laughter echoing throughout the room.
Upon seeing Fu Huaijin return, Xiao Zhiyi jumped three feet high with excitement. Her small body, like a little cannonball, rushed towards him, happily shouting, "Daddy, you're back!"
Fu Huaijin's expression changed slightly. He reacted quickly, jogged forward, and caught the little fox that was pouncing on him.
This was the first time he had observed the little cutie up close. It was so light and soft, as if he could crush it with just a little force.
He carefully cradled the little fox in his hands, still shaken by her earlier behavior. He wanted to scold her but was afraid of frightening her, so he could only helplessly advise, "Be careful not to fall. Don't do that again."
What if you fall to the ground?
Little Zhiyi smiled mischievously and rubbed her fluffy head against his palm: "No way, Mom says I'm tough and won't break if I fall."
Fu Huaijin's palms softened from her rubbing against him, a slight smile appeared on his lips, and his eyes revealed endless tenderness. He gently stroked Xiao Zhiyi's head with his warm hands, as if he were cherishing the most precious treasure in the world, and gently placed her on the bed.
"That won't work either."
His gaze fell on Su Yuxi on the bed. Her large body occupied most of the bed, and her sleeping face was very sweet. There was something flickering slightly between her eyebrows.
As soon as Xiao Zhiyi touched the bed, she crawled into the fluffy fox tail and happily climbed and rolled around inside, as if it were her favorite playground.
"Come here, sweetie, don't disturb Mommy's sleep." Fu Huaijin lowered her voice, trying to coax the little one out.
Little Zhiyi nestled in the furry hand, poking her head out and revealing her round, bright eyes: "No, Mommy sleeps for days every time she comes back from outside. Even thunder can't wake her up."
That's how they always did it. Their mother would sleep while they played, and then they would have to go out again soon after she woke up. So, the only way they could spend time with their mother was like this.
Fu Huaijin's gentle gaze fell on Su Yuxi, and he couldn't help but feel a pang of heartache. He had noticed that she was very tired when they returned, but he hadn't expected that dealing with matters at the research institute would take so much of her energy. If he had known, they should have stayed abroad for a few more days and let her rest before coming back.
"That won't do either. Come here quickly, Daddy will take you to get something to eat, and then we'll go see Great-Grandma. Great-Grandma has already prepared a gift for you. Don't you want it?"
Upon hearing there was a gift, Little Zhiyi immediately crawled out from its mother's tail and excitedly pounced on her, its fox body transforming into human form the instant it leaped into the air.
"I'll go, I'll go." She definitely didn't want a gift; she just wanted to see what her grandmother looked like.
Fu Huaijin gently lifted her into his arms, a doting smile on his face, and softly rubbed her fuzzy little head: "Mmm."
The old lady got up very early this morning, constantly wondering why her grandson and great-granddaughter hadn't arrived yet.
When you hear a child's clear laughter coming from outside, you know that your great-granddaughter has finally arrived.
As soon as they stepped inside, the old lady rushed forward to greet them, her eyes eagerly fixed on the little one in her grandson's arms.
When she finally saw clearly the great-granddaughter in her great-grandson's arms, her smile was loving and peaceful: "The little girl is so pretty, just like her mother."
Little Zhiyi blinked her big, bright eyes and stared curiously at the kind-looking old lady in front of her. Although the wolf grandmother was old, she was very young and beautiful. Why did her great-grandmother look so wrinkled?
She looked at Fu Huaijin with a puzzled expression.
Fu Huaijin didn't understand what she meant, but just smiled and introduced her: "This is your great-grandmother, please greet her."
Xiao Zhiyi seemed a little shy and reserved. She hesitated for a moment, then quietly leaned closer to Fu Huaijin, as if that would give her more sense of security: "Hello, Great-Grandma."
The old lady clenched her hands, wanting to reach out and hug the child, but she was afraid of scaring her, so she had to hold back again and again: "Oh, so good."
"Aunt Lin, quickly bring the gift over."
"Grandma, let's go inside and talk." Fu Huaijin said helplessly; they were still standing at the door.
The old lady laughed and patted her head: "Look at me, I'm getting old and senile."
"Come on, let's go inside."
