A dozen minutes later, the bathroom door was opened.
Su Yuxi's face was pale, and her forehead was covered with fine beads of sweat. She was holding onto the wall with her left hand, and her knuckles were slightly white from the effort she was putting in. Her right hand was tightly clutching her stomach, and her expression looked extremely painful.
She was filled with regret... How could she forget that while Ah Zu's medicine was indeed effective, he could never control the dosage she took. Whenever she took his medicine, she would either vomit and have diarrhea, or break out in rashes all over her body. Very few of her ailments were cured peacefully.
Fu Huaijin sat upright on the edge of the bed, his hands resting on his knees, palms slightly clasped together. The neckline of his loose pajamas was slightly open, revealing a small patch of his muscular chest. Compared to his serious attire during the day, he now appeared more casual and languid.
His deep gaze fell on Su Yuxi's weak and pale face.
The two looked at each other, and Su Yuxi felt another sharp pain in her abdomen. She gasped for breath. Fu Huaijin opened his mouth, wanting to ask her what was wrong, but before he could ask, the bathroom door was slammed shut again.
He stared blankly at the door, his gaze slightly narrowed. After a brief silence, he got out of bed, walked a few steps to the bathroom door, raised his hand and knocked. His voice was slightly hoarse from not speaking for a long time: "Su Yuxi..."
His response was a series of beeps...whoosh, followed by a series of comfortable sighs (don't imagine it).
Upon hearing the persistent calls from outside the door, her face suddenly flushed red with embarrassment and anger. She shouted loudly at the person outside, "Go away, go away, go away! Don't stay in my room!"
Judging from the situation, things definitely won't be peaceful tonight. The thought of someone eavesdropping outside makes her want to grab a knife and go out to stab them.
But Fu Huaijin seemed not to understand, and did not leave. He continued to stand at the door and stubbornly knock on it: "Do you want me to get you some medicine?"
She was about to continue her tirade when another sharp pain shot through her stomach, contorting her face and twitching her lips. After a while, the pain subsided slightly. She took a deep breath and yelled at the person outside the door, "Get out of here! No, no, get out of here!"
Fu Huaijin had never told him to get lost before. He frowned and stared at the door for a long time before finally turning around and leaving.
Just as Su Yuxi heard the footsteps leaving and was about to breathe a sigh of relief, a stomachache surged up again, forcing her to hastily retract a string of vulgarities.
The night is deep, and tonight's night is very long.
The woman in the toilet mustered the courage to try to get out several times, but every time she managed to get out for a few minutes, before she could even sit down properly, abdominal pain would overwhelm her nerves, making it unbearable, and she would have to run back to the toilet immediately.
That night, she wished her buttocks were permanently attached to the toilet.
As dawn broke, Su Yuxi's legs trembled so badly she could barely support herself. Her eyes were a deep purplish-blue, and her clothes were soaked with cold sweat.
She supported herself with whatever she could, moving slowly and laboriously outwards. Her once delicate face had turned an unhealthy sallow, and her breathing was heavy and thin. She looked just like a sickly beauty with one foot in a coffin.
She can come out now without worry, because her stomach is completely empty and there's nothing left to pass.
Su Yuxi mustered her last bit of strength and staggered back to the bedside. Her body collapsed heavily onto the bed like a dying old dog. At this moment, she didn't even want to move a finger anymore. If it came again, she would just poop in her pocket.
Just as she was drifting off to sleep, the door to her room was gently pushed open.
Chu Juan appeared at the door with a medicine box in his hand. As soon as the door opened, he smelled a strange odor in the room. Su Yuxi was lying motionless on the bed.
He walked slowly closer, put the first-aid kit aside, and softly called out to the person on the bed, "Su Yuxi."
Disturbed, Su Yuxi twitched her brow but did not respond. She was hungry, tired, and sleepy and didn't want to deal with anything. She just wanted to get a good night's sleep and then wake up to find something to eat.
Having no other choice, Chu Juan could only go over and check on her condition.
As he drew closer, his gaze fell upon her face. For a moment, his breath caught in his throat, and he blinked rapidly, almost unable to believe what he was seeing. The venomous spot on her face had vanished.
How could that be?
Chu Juan quickly walked to the bedside, bent down, held his breath, and observed. It was indeed clean and completely gone.
He twirled his fingers slightly, but finally couldn't resist reaching out and poking his face.
His skin was very supple, but... He twirled the pale yellow oil between his fingertips, brought it to his nose, and smelled it; it had an indescribable scent.
Su Yuxi noticed someone touching her. Although she was unwilling, she still struggled to lift half of her eyelids to see who dared to touch her. As a result, she saw Chu Juan's face, which was filled with shock.
Her lips moved, silently saying something, but Chu Juan was completely absorbed in his own world of shock and didn't notice at all.
After regaining his senses, he grabbed Su Yuxi and touched her wrist to feel her pulse. Her pulse was weak and feeble, indicating that her body was extremely exhausted, like a candle flickering in the wind. Looking at the dark circles under her eyes, the pale and cracked lips, and her extremely haggard face, she was clearly dehydrated.
"Su Yuxi, how are you feeling? Is there anything that's bothering you?"
Su Yuxi frowned unhappily, then rolled her eyes at him. She was completely slumped over here, so do you think she's okay?
"Let me give you two IV drips first, so you can recover a bit, okay?"
Su Yuxi nodded slightly. Let things be as they may now; it's unlikely that things will turn out any worse than they are now.
Chu Juan turned around to prepare the medicine for her. His acupuncture technique was gentle yet decisive. Just as he finished, he heard a heavy cough coming from the next room. Without hesitation, he put down everything he was doing, picked up his medicine box, and ran over there.
Seeing Fu Huaijin's pale face, his brows furrowed so deeply they could trap a fly, although not as badly looking as the neighbor's, his illness was the most troublesome.
He quickly took out a new dose of medicine from the medicine box and slowly pushed the green medicine into his veins. Almost the instant the medicine entered his veins, its powerful effects quickly stopped Fu Huaijin's cough.
But Chu Juan's brows did not relax at all. As he packed his things, he thought about the changes in his body these past few days and soon realized a fact that he had to accept.
"Huaijin, have you noticed a problem?"
Fu Huaijin glanced at him helplessly, giving him a look to signal him to continue.
He truthfully recounted what he had seen and thought: "Have you noticed that the stronger your body is at night, the weaker it is during the day? Before, your body was just a little stronger than the average person, and you were fine during the day, but ever since..."
He looked meaningfully at his hands.
