Chapter 14 Car Accident
Yan Songyu released Jiang Chengli and walked out of the banquet hall step by step. There was no anxiety in her steps, but her back view was graceful.
...
"They're here."
In the darkness, Feng Yu closed his laptop, and the roar of the sports car grew closer.
Inside the car, Jiang Chengli had one hand on the steering wheel and the other hand resting comfortably on the window, the cigarette between his fingers emitting a faint red glow in the night breeze.
Thinking of the business cards people had offered him, including the company boss who had once rejected his application and the art dealer who had belittled his paintings... Jiang Chengli's smile grew wider and wider, and he drove faster and faster...
Now he is a rising painter, and also a member of the Yan family in Haishi. Their positions have been reversed. Everyone has to fawn over him and enjoy the feeling of power and money. How wonderful!
Through the binoculars, Yan Songyu saw the smugness and unrestrained smile on Jiang Chengli's face and in his eyes. Her gaze grew even more profound as she pressed the call button.
Ring ring—
The crisp ringing of the telephone was particularly noticeable in the quiet night. Jiang Chengli turned his head and saw—his wife.
He withdrew his left hand, took a drag of his cigarette before throwing it away, switched hands to grip the steering wheel, and leaned slightly to reach for his constantly ringing phone, but accidentally knocked it to the floor at the passenger's feet.
Ring ring—
Ring ring—
The increasingly urgent ringing of the phone annoyed him. "Still ringing? Doesn't he know he's driving?"
Jiang Chengli impatiently slammed on the brakes, trying to stop and pick up his phone, but—the brakes failed!
He pressed the brake pedal several more times, but the car didn't slow down at all... All his frustration was replaced by fear! What happened? The brakes failed?!
Seeing the car was out of control, his strong will to survive made him mechanically turn the steering wheel all the way to the right.
"Ah~!"
Jiang Chengli's screams echoed in the night sky, but they couldn't drown out the ear-piercing screeching of the wheels screeching against the ground. The silver sports car crashed into the mountainside with a loud bang.
Yan Songyu closed her eyes, tightly gripping Feng Yu's hand, her heart pounding like a drum...
Feng Yu pulled her into his arms, and the fresh, natural scent of pine instantly enveloped her. The faint resinous aroma carried a warm feeling, just like the feeling Feng Yu gave her—calm and serene.
Finally! Her stiff body slowly relaxed after the loud bang...
Feng Yu only let go after he was sure she could stand firmly, and said softly, "I'll go check on her."
Yan Songyu grabbed Feng Yu's sleeve, "I'll go with you."
The front of the car was completely smashed, and smoke and dust filled the air. Jiang Chengli inside the car had fallen into a coma, but apart from his forehead, he had no fatal injuries, and even his right hand only had some minor glass scratches.
Yan Songyu glanced at his still heaving chest, a surge of resentment rising within her. "He's lucky to be alive!"
This is a sharp bend; the chances of going off the guardrail and falling off the cliff are much higher.
After checking the car, Feng Yu picked up a sharp piece of glass and tried to open the car door. He had promised to take his right hand and he wouldn't go back on his word.
Yan Songyu suddenly stepped forward and roughly pulled Jiang Chengli's right arm out of the car window. "Feng Yu, I want to do it myself."
Feng Yu paused, then handed her the glass, saying, "Be careful not to cut your hand."
pain!
A sharp pain shot through Jiang Chengli's right arm as Yan Songyu forcefully plunged the glass into his arm.
Jiang Chengli had fallen into a coma, but his pain receptors were still active, and he began to struggle helplessly in his subconscious.
Hearing his muffled groan, Yan Songyu slowly pulled down with all her might, and a deep, bone-revealing wound formed on Jiang Chengli's right arm. Seeing that his tendons were completely severed, Yan Songyu smiled with satisfaction. Warm blood splattered into the corner of her eye, making her look somewhat bewitching with the smile in her eyes.
Jiang Chengli remained unconscious, but the pain intensified. His face contorted in agony as he murmured, "It hurts~"
Even after releasing Jiang Chengli, Yan Songyu still didn't let go of the sharp glass shard.
"We should go." Feng Yu pulled Yan Songyu in front of him, took out a handkerchief and gently wiped the blood off her face. He then pried open her fingers one by one, took the glass shards and smashed them before pulling her away. "There are cars coming from behind. Don't worry, his right hand won't be healed."
"There are some clothes prepared in the back. Change quickly and I'll take you home. I'm afraid you won't be able to rest tonight."
As soon as he finished speaking, Feng Yu raised the baffle, started the car, and left everything behind.
Yan Songyu took out the clothes from the bag; it was a dress exactly the same as the one she was wearing.
Well, he's always been meticulous.
When Yan Songyu received the call from the police station, she had just put Feifei to sleep; Feifei did have a slight cold that day.
"What happened? How could my husband be in a car accident?"
Yan Songyu rushed to the hospital in her pajamas, her hair disheveled and tears streaming down her face, moving the audience to tears.
The nurse handed her the surgical consent form. "Ms. Yan, please sign the surgical consent form first. We will do our best to save your husband."
Yan Songyu hastily wiped away her tears, her hands trembling as she took the pen. She paused three times before finally signing her name. "Please, you must save my husband!"
Yan Binghua, who arrived a step late, helped the staggering Yan Songyu and patted her hand reassuringly, "Xiaoyu, don't worry, Chengli will be fine."
Feng Yu silently took off his suit jacket and draped it over Yan Songyu before going to talk to the police.
“We detected alcohol in Mr. Jiang’s blood, confirming that he was driving under the influence. In addition, we found his cell phone in the car.” The square-faced policeman glanced at Yan Songyu, who was crying uncontrollably. “The last missed call was made by Ms. Yan, and the time coincided with the time of the accident.”
Yan Songyu seemed stunned by these words, forgetting even to cry.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that this was an accident. Mr. Jiang was driving under the influence of alcohol and was distracted while trying to answer Ms. Yan's call, which led to the accident."
Upon hearing this, Yan Songyu seemed to lose all her strength and collapsed to the ground, sobbing, "Waaah~ It's my fault, it's my fault that Chengli is in trouble..."
Yan Binghua hugged her and comforted her, "Xiaoyu, it's not your fault, it's not your fault."
"It's my fault, it's all my fault. I shouldn't have called him. I just wanted to tell him that Feifei was okay. I shouldn't have bothered him while he was driving, sob sob~"
The square-faced policeman looked at the pitiful Yan Songyu and added, "The vehicle wreckage has been sent for testing as per routine. This is just an inference, not a final conclusion."
“Songyu, this is not your fault. The main reason for the car accident was Mr. Jiang’s drunk driving.” Feng Yu felt sorry for Yan Songyu’s self-blame and comforted her, “President Wu arranged for a driver to take the guests to the banquet. He shouldn’t have been so reckless as to drive drunk.”
"No, it's my fault, boohoo~"
"Captain Chen!" A young policeman jogged over and handed a stack of documents to the square-faced officer. "The expedited vehicle inspection results you requested are ready."
