Chapter 68 Zhou Mu Protects Feifei
After Zhou Yue recovered, Zhou Mu stopped washing dishes and cleaning for her. However, she would still go to Mingzhu Elementary School through the side door, but only to find Feifei. She would also often stay overnight in the music room. As long as the housework was done, Zhou Yue wouldn't care where she went. The music room was much more comfortable than home.
The two girls got along very well in the music room. Feifei played the piano while Zhou Mu did her homework. After each piece, Zhou Mu would put down her pen and clap. Even if she was the only one playing, she still created a great atmosphere.
Sometimes they would do their homework together and talk about interesting people and things in the class, but this part was mainly Feifei talking while Zhou Mu listened. She didn't get along well with her classmates and just focused on studying at school, without paying attention to anyone else.
But Feifei is different. Besides Zhou Mu, her good friend, she has many other friends, such as Kong Ying. He often sneaks into the music room to listen to Feifei practice the piano. Over time, Kong Ying becomes Zhou Mu's second friend, just an ordinary friend.
"Why are you here again?" Feifei was speechless as she looked at Kong Ying, who was acting suspiciously.
After being discovered, Kong Ying simply walked in openly, saying, "I'm here to support you. You play so well, how can one audience member be enough?"
Feifei rolled her eyes at him with an elegant expression. "Don't think I don't know you came here for the snacks in the music room."
Zhou Mu chimed in, "That's right. If you didn't head straight for the snack cabinet as soon as you came in, that statement would be more convincing."
"Oh dear, you don't know, Mom has been acting strangely lately. She suddenly wants me to lose weight, so I've been eating nothing but bland food every day, and I've given up all my snacks. I really can't take it anymore."
Kong Ying's chubby paws reached for the box of potato chips, but Fei Fei slapped them away. "It must be because the results of your last physical exam came out. Being too fat is affecting your health, so Aunt Chen started controlling your diet. In that case, I can't let you eat these anymore."
Feifei's snacks are all made by Aunt Liu: cakes, desserts, potato chips, cookies, all kinds of candies, and even spicy strips that kids like. Although these things are cleaner than those bought outside, they are not much healthier and are all high-calorie foods, so they are definitely not suitable for dieting.
Kong Ying immediately pleaded pitifully, "Please, Feifei, let me have a bite, just one bite, I just want to taste it, so I can see if Grandma Liu's cooking has improved again."
Feifei shook her head firmly and prepared to put a lock on the snack cabinet.
Zhou Mu couldn't help but laugh out loud as she watched the two laughing and joking. She actually wanted to say that with Kong Ying's chubby face, he couldn't achieve the pitiful effect he wanted at all.
In the end, Kong Ying could only lie on the sofa and listen to Fei Fei play the piano. He couldn't help but sigh to Zhou Mu, "If only that cabinet full of potato chips, mango pudding, tiramisu, yam and purple sweet potato cake, orange candy, and most importantly, spicy strips could automatically break free from the devil Fei Fei's shackles and fly to my side."
He drifted into his own fantasy, "Ah~ how pleasant it would be to eat while listening to a piano performance!"
Zhou Mu was engrossed in her homework and music when Kong Ying shook her awake. "Mu Mu, did you hear that? Isn't it awesome?"
"Ah, yes, yes, so refreshing!"
Kong Ying glared at Zhou Mu angrily, "Are you just giving me the runaround?"
"Shut up!" Zhou Mu glared back. "Don't disturb my studies, and don't disturb Feifei's piano practice. She's about to have her finals."
Kong Ying made a zipping motion near his mouth. He had small eyes and couldn't glare at him, so he just had to admit defeat.
The final of the Shanghai International Youth Piano Competition was held at the Starry Sky Concert Hall. Feifei gave Zhou Mu and Kong Ying each a ticket, but it happened to be Kong Ying's grandfather's birthday that day, so only Zhou Mu went.
While Feifei was getting ready in the lounge, Zhou Mu went to the restroom and overheard two girls in princess dresses talking badly about Feifei. They looked a few years older than Feifei and Zhou Mu.
The little girl in the green dress said, "Let's try our best to win the runner-up position. Do you know Yan Feifei, number three? She was the runner-up in the semi-finals. Her family is the Yan family, one of the three major tycoons in Haishi. We 'commoners' are just running alongside the 'princess'."
She let out a long sigh, "But everyone only pays attention to the first place. What splash can the second place make?"
The little girl in the purple dress was a bit surprised. "Really? I heard her performance in the semi-finals, and she played quite well."
The girl in the green dress continued, "It's alright, but I don't think she played as well as the third and fourth place winners in the semi-finals. But her score was higher than all of them. Doesn't that prove anything?"
After passing Zhou Mu, the girl in the green dress whispered to another girl, "And I also heard Yan Feifei talking to her mother. She was worried that she hadn't practiced long enough and her results were too bad. Do you know what her mother said? Her mother said that she is the best girl and that she will definitely win the championship. Isn't that an implication?"
"Stop!" Zhou Mu, unable to bear it any longer, called out to the two girls.
The two looked at Zhou Mu with suspicion. The girl in the green dress frowned slightly. "What is it?"
"Please don't make wild guesses and spread rumors out of jealousy. Apologize to Yan Feifei. She is very talented. She plays the piano exceptionally well and doesn't need any connections."
The girl in the green dress was overheard talking badly about someone and knew the person in question. She immediately felt guilty, but more than that, she was furious. Instead of apologizing, she gave Zhou Mu a critical look and asked, "Who are you?"
Just as Zhou Mu was about to answer, she heard her deliberately humiliate him, saying, "How did you get in? The audience here is all of a certain caliber. Looking at your faded clothes, you didn't sneak in, did you?"
"Besides, someone like you has probably never even touched a piano, right? How do you know how talented Yan Feifei is, or how well she plays?"
Zhou Mu looked at the girl in the green dress with sarcasm, "I may not know anything about the piano, but the judges do. Didn't you hear their comments about Feifei? And you think the third and fourth place players played better? If you're so good, why don't you become a judge?"
"You're just jealous of Feifei, jealous of her talent, jealous of her family background, so you maliciously speculate about Feifei and Aunt Yan and spread rumors behind her back."
The girl in the green dress, her thoughts exposed by Zhou Mu, was now completely enraged. She scoffed and retorted, "Jealous? I'm jealous of Yan Feifei?"
"Yes, you're jealous, you've admitted it yourself."
Zhou Mu immediately interrupted her, leaving her breathless and unable to breathe properly.
"You're jealous of Feifei, so you spoke ill of her. After I exposed you, you got angry and verbally attacked me, but I'm not afraid." Zhou Mu returned her sneer, looking at her contemptuously. "I may be poor, and my clothes are faded from washing, but I came in with a ticket, and there wasn't a sign at the door saying poor people can't come in. So what if I came in?"
Zhou Mu looked at the girl in the green dress, who was too angry to speak, and said firmly, "Now, please apologize!"
The girl in the green dress completely lost her temper and suddenly shoved Zhou Mu to the ground, yelling, "Who do you think you are? You dare ask me to apologize!"
"Momo!"
Suddenly, Feifei's exclamation came from around the corner. She lifted her skirt and rushed over to help Zhou Mu.
"She doesn't deserve your apology, so what about me?"
