Chapter 5 Disguise

Chapter 5 Disguise

"Ah, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Chengli, did I have another episode? Did I hurt you again? Waaah, I'm sorry, I didn't want this to happen, I didn't want this to happen, but I couldn't control myself, I'm so sorry!"

Yan Songyu helped Jiang Chengli up while crying, as if she were the one who had been wronged. She used Feifei's diaper to wipe the sticky porridge and shoe prints off his face while crying and shifting the blame, "Why didn't you push me away? Why didn't you fight back?"

Jiang Chengli kept his head down, not looking at the tearful, regretful, and guilty face in front of him. His eyes were filled with gloom, and he couldn't bring himself to say "It's okay" no matter how hard he tried.

In the morning, Yan Songyu suddenly hugged his arm and asked for the fish porridge he had cooked. Her gentle smile was just like when they were in love. He thought Yan Songyu's condition was starting to improve, so he happily cooked a pot of porridge.

He came from a poor family, so cooking wasn't difficult for him. In the past, to please her, after learning that she liked to eat fish, he would get up at 4 a.m. to buy fish and cook a pot of fresh fish porridge for her when she woke up.

When he was delivering porridge to Yan Songyu, he felt the friction between his clothes and the scalded burn on his chest, and suddenly stopped in his tracks. Fortunately, he waited until the porridge was warm before delivering it to her, otherwise the burn on his chest that had not yet healed would have been re-injured.

Just because the porridge contained diced carrots, which she no longer liked after giving birth, she went berserk, overturning the porridge and demanding, "You don't care about me at all! You don't love me at all! Otherwise, how could you forget my preferences?"

That was clearly one of her favorite vegetables!

Jiang Chengli felt like a huge burden had been dumped on his head, but before he could explain that he didn't know her tastes had changed, Yan Songyu started hitting him hysterically.

He tolerated and dodged, but she became even more aggressive, even stepping on his face and forcing him to kneel down and lick the porridge on the floor!

Jiang Chengli clenched his fists tighter and tighter, his nails scratching his palms. He brushed Yan Songyu's hand away, gave her a deep look, and turned to leave.

Yan Songyu looked sadly at Jiang Chengli's back, but a mocking smile appeared on her face the moment the door closed. She casually pulled out a disinfectant wipe to wipe her hands, and then elegantly wiped away her tears. "Can't you stand this?"

After Jiang Chengli silently returned to his bedroom, his emotions finally erupted!

He wanted to smash things and vent his frustration, but after picking up the vase, his remaining rationality forced him to grit his teeth and put it back... In the end, all that was smashed on the ground was his suit jacket.

He rushed into the bathroom, roughly ripped off his tie, and even popped two buttons off his shirt. He turned on the tap and desperately scooped up water to pour on his face, which was burning hot.

The sound of rushing water mingled with his heavy breathing. Finally, he simply submerged his head in the water-filled washbasin... one second, two seconds... thirty seconds... one minute...

Whoosh—

Jiang Chengli raised his head, taking deep breaths of fresh air, "Whoosh—whoosh—"

His loose hair was swept back, and he leaned against the sink, staring intently at the bloodshot eyes in the mirror. Water dripped from his hair, and his white shirt was already soaked through, clinging tightly to his body, revealing the burns on his chest.

He simply ripped open his shirt and scanned the scars on his chest inch by inch in front of the mirror. After looking at them, he calmed down and his usual gentle smile returned.

Knock knock—

Jiang Chengli had just come out of the bathroom while drying his hair when he heard a knock on the door. He slowly changed into his pajamas before putting a towel around his neck and opening the door.

Yan Binghua looked at the closed door, his brows furrowed with dissatisfaction and a hint of worry.

Jiang Chengli opened the door and saw a fleeting emotion in Yan Binghua's expression. He respectfully invited Yan Binghua in, "Dad, I'm sorry, I was taking a shower and kept you waiting."

"It's nothing." Yan Binghua glanced at Jiang Chengli's still dripping hair, walked to the sofa and sat down. "I know everything that happened today."

Jiang Chengli smiled gently, "Dad, I know what you mean. I'm not angry, don't worry."

Yan Binghua stared into Jiang Chengli's eyes, trying to detect any trace of dissatisfaction or anger, but found none.

"You're a good kid!" Yan Binghua patted Jiang Chengli on the shoulder and said thoughtfully, "Xiaoyu went a bit too far today, and she's feeling very guilty now."

As Jiang Chengli bent down to pour tea for Yan Binghua, a hint of sarcasm flashed in his eyes, but it was just a little too much...?

Self-blame?

So, is the purpose of trying to reconcile them just to lessen her guilt?

Jiang Chengli's thoughts raced, but his face remained gentle with a smile. "I'll go see Xiaoyu in a bit. She's just sick; it's not her fault."

Looking at Jiang Chengli's flawless smile, Yan Binghua felt not relieved, but rather heavier. He didn't believe that anyone could really have such a good temper, unless it was an act.

"That's good. Xiaoyu's emotions are unstable right now, and she often can't control herself. That's not her intention. If you have any complaints, come and talk to me. Let's have a drink together and not hold it against Xiaoyu."

Jiang Chengli smiled bitterly, "Dad, it would be a lie to say I have no resentment at all. I'm not a saint. I was angry when Xiaoyu trampled on me today, but now, all I feel is heartache."
