Chapter 56 Paternity Test
Jiang Chengli was already feeling dizzy and weak due to a fever, and when Zhou Mu bumped into him, he almost fell to the ground. He was only able to steady himself after being helped by a passerby.
"I'm sorry, Uncle, are you alright?"
"It's okay, just be careful when you walk."
Jiang Chengli had no interest in making things difficult for a child, so he glanced at Zhou Mu's thin clothes and left in a hurry.
In the hospital's small garden, the branches and leaves were withered, and the trees were bare. In a secluded corner, a man and a woman stood.
"What do you want Zhou Mu's hair for? What are you suspecting?"
Zhou Yue's hands were trembling slightly, from the pain of her wound, but even more so from fear. She recalled those times when she felt inexplicably heartbroken, and an absurd guess rose in her mind.
Impossible, impossible!
“Yan Songyu cheated on me!” Jiang Chengli’s eyes were bloodshot when he said this. “She got together with Feng Yu.”
"Huh? Hahahaha~" After her initial surprise, Zhou Yue burst into mocking laughter, completely forgetting her initial shock and doubt. "So what? Wasn't this your own choice? Wasn't this something you meticulously planned?"
"Hahaha... How does it feel? Isn't the green hat Miss Yan knitted for you especially precious and warm?"
Jiang Chengli let Zhou Yue finish her sarcasm before speaking: "Do you think things are that simple? If it were just Yan Songyu cheating, I wouldn't have come looking for you."
Zhou Yue's expression changed drastically. "What do you mean?"
"Didn't you ask me what you wanted Zhou Mu's hair for?" Jiang Chengli stared at Zhou Yue with his deep eyes. "For a paternity test!"
Zhou Yue's dry, chapped lips trembled slightly. "So, therefore..."
Jiang Chengli didn't give Zhou Yue a chance to fantasize and said directly, "I suspect that what happened back then has been exposed."
"Impossible!" Zhou Yue denied it outright. "If we were exposed, how could we possibly be alright? The Yan family could deal with us as easily as crushing an ant. How could they possibly tolerate us living peacefully?"
"Live well?" Jiang Chengli retorted, "Have we been living well?"
“I’ve thought carefully about what’s happened to me over the past few years. Yan Songyu suffered from postpartum depression and her attitude towards me changed drastically. Then my leg was broken in the South District. Later, I finally achieved success in my career, but then I had a car accident that completely ruined my life… And what about you? You’re disfigured and living in poverty. What’s so good about that?”
"It wasn't until that day, when I saw Yan Songyu and Feng Yu hugging, that I realized she had been having an affair without my knowledge."
Zhou Yue was unwilling to believe this conclusion. "But, but these were all accidents, weren't they? Your car accident was orchestrated by someone to get revenge on Yan Songyu. I saw the news; the murderer's surname is Xu. You took the blame for Yan Songyu. My face was ruined by thugs from the South District."
"And if all of this had been exposed long ago, why didn't Yan Songyu divorce you? Why would a young lady like her waste so long on you? To the point that she can only have an affair in secret now."
Jiang Chengli had also considered these things, but once suspicion arose, only evidence could convince him. "I also had suspicions, which is why I did the paternity test to confirm it."
"What if Yan Songyu knew everything all along and managed to get her daughter back? What if Feifei is Yan Songyu's daughter, and Zhou Mu is your daughter, and she did all this to get revenge on us?"
"I now even suspect that Yan Songyusheng's daughter is Feng Yu's. I need evidence, I need to see the paternity test results!"
Zhou Yue felt that Jiang Chengli seemed a bit crazy, but she still agreed to his suggestion. His words had left a thorn in her heart that she had to remove.
“I still think you’re overthinking it. Yan Songyu has a million ways to get revenge on us. There’s no need for him to risk his life. But I’ll give you Zhou Mu’s hair tomorrow.”
“Okay! The sooner the better. We can’t do this test in Haishi. The Yan family has too much influence in Haishi. I need to go back to Liangcheng to do it.” Jiang Chengli kept looking around cautiously. There were only the two of them within a ten-meter radius. “It’s perfect timing. I haven’t been back to Liangcheng for a long time. My mother called me yesterday and said that my father is sick. This is a good opportunity to go home.”
"You seem a bit off, so take care of yourself," Zhou Yue advised Jiang Chengli.
So when Zhou Mu brought food to Zhou Yue and Zhou Chenglong the next day, she sensed the complicated look in Zhou Yue's eyes, but she wisely pretended not to notice. However, it seemed that she had left a lot of food on her plate that day.
When Zhou Mu was clearing the dishes, she accidentally spilled some soup. Zhou Yue habitually slapped her on the back of the head, saying, "You can't even do something this simple. What's the use of raising you?"
"ah!"
Zhou Mu felt as if her hair had gotten caught on a button on Zhou Yue's sleeve, pulling painfully, so much so that she overlooked the force of Zhou Yue's slap.
"Don't move!" Zhou Yue roared, roughly tearing out several strands of her hair.
"Third sister, don't be so harsh on Mumu. Mumu is such a well-behaved child! These past few days..."
Zhou Chenglong offered a weak and incoherent piece of advice, but before he could finish speaking, Zhou Yue glared at him and shut him up.

"Back to Liangcheng?" Yan Songyu was surprised by Jiang Chengli's call. "Don't you dislike the Jiang family?"
Jiang Chengli's voice was a little hoarse from a cold. "They are my parents after all. Although they are not good to me, they raised me. I haven't been back for several years. This time, my father is hospitalized. It would be wrong for me not to go back."
"Alright then, I'll have Uncle Wang prepare some gifts for you to take back with you."
After Yan Songyu finished speaking casually, she suddenly let out a soft snort, and Jiang Chengli's hand instantly clenched into a fist. "What's wrong, Xiaoyu?"
"It's nothing, my fingernail just accidentally bumped into the corner of the table."
Ha! You bastard! Jiang Chengli pinched his palm hard to control his emotions and said gently, "Then be careful."
"Okay, I'll hang up now. Be careful on your way."
"Wait, Xiaoyu, Feifei is almost eight years old and has never been back to Liangcheng, nor has she met her grandparents, so I thought..."
Yan Songyu immediately rejected Jiang Chengli's suggestion, "Impossible. You've never raised a child alone before. I won't let you take Feifei away. If your parents miss Feifei, they can come to Haishi to see her, but I won't let Feifei go to Liangcheng with you."
Jiang Chengli wasn't angry when he was rejected. He hadn't expected Yan Songyu to agree anyway. "You're right. Feifei has never left Haishi since she was little. She might not be able to get used to going to Liangcheng."
"Why are you talking so much nonsense today?" Yan Songyu said impatiently. "I'm hanging up. You can go back to your business. Feifei doesn't need your concern."
...
After getting Zhou Mu's hair, Jiang Chengli went straight to the airport. After getting off the plane, he circled around the airport a few times before randomly getting into a taxi.
After arriving at the hospital, he didn't show up directly. He changed his clothes in the bathroom and then went out through the side door where the trash was taken out. He then stopped an older woman on the roadside whose eyes were fixed on other people's gold bracelets.
"Hey, what are you doing! Stealing..."
Before the aunt could finish speaking, she saw a stack of red bills peeking out of Jiang Cheng's gift bag and immediately fell silent.
"Auntie, if you do me a favor, all of this is yours." Seeing the auntie staring at his bag without even blinking, Jiang Chengli felt disgusted, but still added, "Don't worry, it's definitely not something immoral or illegal."
The auntie raised her chin with feigned modesty, "You tell me first."
"It's like this, my wife..."
