Chapter 85 Officer, we need to call the police.
Police cars arrived at the school, and Zhou Mu was called away by her homeroom teacher. Before she even came out of the office, rumors that she had pushed her classmate down the stairs had already spread throughout the school.
Zhou Mu was slapped as soon as he entered the office, and his face quickly swelled up.
"It was you, you good-for-nothing little slut, who pushed my daughter. Do you know you almost killed her?"
"Hey, let's talk this out, don't resort to violence." The police officer quickly pulled the agitated woman away.
The homeroom teacher, Ms. Ma, examined Zhou Mu's face with a grim expression. Although she tried to dodge, Lu Xin's mother didn't hold back at all.
Teacher Ma looked at her disapprovingly, "That's right, Ms. Lü Xin, the matter hasn't been investigated yet, how could you impulsively hit someone?"
"Talk nicely? She dared to harm my daughter, I'll make sure she doesn't get rid of this little bastard! I heard her mother is a convict, how can your school allow such a scoundrel to study here?"
She was so emotional that it took the police a lot of persuasion to calm her down.
Teacher Ma said gently to Zhou Mu, "Zhou Mu, don't be afraid. The police officer just wants to ask you about the situation. Just tell him what you know, okay?"
Zhou Mu nodded.
"Zhou Mu, are you aware that Lu Xin was pushed down the stairs after school yesterday afternoon?" the police officer asked.
"Know."
"You have a conflict with classmate Lü Xin, right? You even threatened her to watch out."
"yes."
Zhou Mu had only answered two sentences when Lü Xin's mother went berserk again, "She's the one who harmed my daughter, she's admitted it, you should arrest her immediately."
"Quiet!" the policeman warned her coldly. "If you can't calm down, go outside and wait."
"Let's continue, Zhou Mu. What exactly happened between you and Lü Xin? What did you use to threaten her?"
Zhou Mu truthfully said, "Someone spread the word about my mother going to jail to the school, and everyone isolated me. I've been bullied before, so I'm actually used to it. I don't want to hold a grudge. I just want to study quietly. That's how I've always been."
"But that day I suddenly couldn't take it anymore, so I fought back. My exact words were: I just want to tell you that you're right. I'm just as ruthless as my mother, and I'm also crazy, so you all have to watch out! Then everyone dispersed, that's all."
Zhou Mu thought for a moment and added, "I didn't push her."
The police officer nodded and continued, "You were on duty with Lü Xin yesterday afternoon, so you two were the last to leave, right?"
"Yes, we were both assigned to take out the trash, so we left later, but I left before her."
"When did you leave? Where did you go? Are there any witnesses?"
“I should have left around 5:50 p.m. I went to Mingzhu International Primary School to meet my friend and stayed with her until 6:40 p.m. before leaving.”
"You have witnesses, right? Can you contact them?"
Zhou Mu hesitated. She didn't want to involve Feifei in these matters, and Feifei should be in class.
"You wouldn't dare, you're lying!" Lu Xin's mother always tried to seize any clue to get justice for her daughter. "How could a ragpicker like you know any friends from Mingzhu International Primary School?"
"She wasn't lying!"
Suddenly, a boy whom Zhou Mu didn't recognize appeared at the door.
The head of the teaching department recognized him; he was another bully at Nan Yi Elementary School after Qu Chaoyue, always causing trouble and defying discipline. "Han Lang, what do you know?"
“I left late yesterday and was playing with my AUG assault rifle model. I happened to see what was happening in the building across the street through the scope. When Zhou Mu left, the short-haired girl who fell down the building was still in the classroom. But I left later too, around the same time as Zhou Mu, so I didn’t see the murderer.”
Zhou Mu thought he could clear his name now, but Lu Xin's mother was almost driven mad by her daughter's injury and kept pestering Zhou Mu.
In the end, Zhou Mu borrowed the homeroom teacher's phone to call Feifei.
With a red and swollen handprint on her face, Zhou Mu stared blankly at the office door. She didn't want Feifei to see her in such a disheveled state, and she didn't want Feifei to come to her rescue every time, which made her feel like a useless burden.
Feifei arrived quickly, and as soon as she came in, she noticed the injury on Zhou Mu's face. "Who hit you?"
"I'm sorry, Feifei, I've made you late for class." Zhou Mu felt very guilty.
"Why are you apologizing to me? It's just a simple matter of getting a certificate. I already know all the courses I'm taking now."
She patted Zhou Mu's hand to comfort him, then looked at Zhong Weicheng, "Uncle Zhong, could you please buy me some ice?"
Zhou Mu felt a warmth in her heart. Sure enough, only Feifei truly cared about her! How could she possibly have such a friend?
Zhong Weicheng looked around and nodded, "Okay."
Feifei already knew the whole story from the phone call, so she spoke up before the police could ask, "Mumu came to see me after school yesterday. We stayed in my school's music room until school ended, and I taught her to play the piano."
She then took out a USB drive and gave it to the police officer. "This is the surveillance footage I could find of Mumu's journey from here to my school. It should prove that neither Mumu nor I lied."
When the police reviewed the surveillance footage, Zhong Weicheng had already returned. With his long legs and quick steps, he stood behind Feifei like a mountain after handing her the ice.
Feifei wrapped ice cubes in a towel and used it to reduce the swelling on Mumu's face, asking her softly, "Does it hurt a lot?"
Zhou Mu forced a smile. "It's alright, just a little bit."
She didn't actually feel any pain at first, but when Feifei asked, she suddenly felt a lot of pain! It hurt so much she wanted to cry…
Feifei wiped away her tears and glared at Lü Xin's mother resentfully, "I'll get justice for you later!"
"Okay!" Zhou Mu's eyes, brimming with tears, shone brightly.
After reviewing the surveillance footage, the police officer said to Zhou Mu, "Zhou Mu, your suspicion has been cleared."
"The surveillance footage shows that you left the school at 17:48, but according to the security guard who found Lu Xin injured, he found Lu Xin at 17:53. He went to find her as soon as he heard her scream, and the whole thing took no more than 2 minutes."
The surveillance footage continued until Zhou Mu entered Mingzhu Elementary School, which proves that she never returned to the school.
"How could this be?" Lu Xin's mother collapsed to the ground, muttering, "If it wasn't her? Then who was it? Who killed my daughter?"
The police had packed up and were ready to go back to investigate the clues again. Lu Xin's mother also got up with the help of a chair. The teachers looked worried and were preparing to see them off. They all seemed to have forgotten one thing—Zhou Mu had been slapped.
"etc!"
Feifei called them back just before they were about to leave.
Everyone turned their attention to this little girl who clearly came from a wealthy family.
The police officer taking the statement asked gently, "Young man, is there anything else you want to say?"
Feifei shook her head, "Officer, we want to call the police!"
