Chapter 100 Fireflies Dare Not Compete for the Bright Moon
She's incredibly capable.
Sure enough, as soon as I stepped across the threshold of the bamboo house, I received a warm invitation from the burly man.
"Hey girl, over here, over here."
The bamboo building is very large, with nine-story high wooden beams from which hang indigo batik cloth with intricate patterns resembling a giant tree. In the center is a circle made up of twenty long cedar tables.
The dishes on the table were dazzling, and the witch maids wearing silver collars were carrying bamboo tube rice out of the kitchen one after another. From afar, you could smell the aroma of pine needles and ginger wrapped in the steam.
Luo Chuan's dark robe swept past the thatch planted diagonally by the door. He slowly raised his eyes, his gaze meeting and then looking away from Wu Jin, who was in the main seat.
The old priest, unlike his indifferent demeanor of the past few days, was now using a long-handled wooden spoon to scoop glutinous rice wine into a bamboo cup.
“Young lady, I’ve thought about the team-up idea you mentioned last time and it seems feasible.” Seeing that Hua Li wasn’t moving, the burly man simply got up and walked over. “But you also know how terrifying the Burial God Abyss is. Having an acquaintance there would definitely make things much easier. How about having Prince Fen Yu join us as well?”
At first, Huali thought the big man had finally realized his eyesight was bad, but after hearing this, what else was there to misunderstand? This wasn't an invitation at all; it was clearly a disguised attempt to team up with Fenyu.
Karin refused outright, saying, "No need. We're both rather weak, so we won't trouble you."
Seeing this, the burly man looked regretful and said, "It's going to be difficult for the two of you to survive in the Burial Abyss."
Hua Li nodded in agreement, "Yes, brother, what kind of rare and precious materials did you come to the Burial God Abyss for?"
The burly man smiled and waved his hand, "I can't say that."
I thought I could get some information out of the other person because they looked so simple-minded, but I didn't expect them to be so tight-lipped.
Both are big, but Tuowu is cuter.
Since they weren't going to form a team, there was no need to go over and sit down. Huali noticed a row of empty seats and immediately pulled Luochuan over there.
This group of people had no real intention of drinking; they were only interested in making friends, and none of them were seriously eating the food.
Huali is different; she sits down and immediately becomes adorable, while also keeping her ears perked up to listen to everything around her.
Luo Chuan found it amusing to watch Hua Li eat bamboo rice with her cheeks puffed out. Even though her right hand was still holding a slice of cured meat, her body was leaning to the left and her ears were perked up.
He reached out his chopsticks and took the cured meat from her table without the girl noticing. She put the chopsticks in her mouth and bit into the air.
Just as Karin was about to turn around, a surprised whisper reached her ears, "Karin?"
At the entrance, Fen Yu walked in and smiled at Hua Li as soon as she saw her looking over.
Huali noticed that Fenyu was accompanied by a beautiful girl with silver bells hanging from her body. The silver bells did not make a noise when she walked; instead, they had a strange melody.
Her pupils lit up noticeably when she saw Luo Chuan.
"Brother, let's sit there too." Before Fen Yu could agree, she had already pressed him down next to Hua Li, and then turned around to Luo Chuan's side on the other side. Just as she was about to sit down, her body suddenly stiffened.
The once-clean chair surface crackled with ice crystals just as she was about to sit down.
"The chair is wet." Luo Chuan placed the cured meat from his chopsticks into the rosewood bowl, his eyes, which had been smiling just moments before, now appearing cold and indifferent.
Wu Yu's hand, still adorned with nail polish, hovered in mid-air. With a wave of her hand, the melting water droplets from the ice crystals vanished. Her eyes gleamed with curiosity and a sense of conquest as she raised her chin. "Now you can sit..."
Before the last note had even faded, the bamboo chair had already turned to dust.
After being rebuffed three times, Wu Yu's eyes blazed with anger. She slammed her hand on the table and demanded, "What do you mean?"
"I don't like getting too close to people."
Wu Yu scoffed, her nail-painted fingertips twirling so close they almost poked Hua Li's nose. "Then why can she be so close?"
Huali, who was watching the battle with great interest, never expected that the flames of war would reach her. At this moment, she was holding a pork hock in her hand and her mouth was half open.
Without warning, ice crystals erupted from Wu Yu's fingertips, and the finger pointing at Hua Li instantly bled profusely.
"Enough with the noise," Luo Chuan said slowly. "How dare a firefly compete with the bright moon?"
Huali blinked, inexplicably feeling a sense of satisfaction.
Wu Yu glanced at Hua Li, who was still gnawing on the pork hock, her eyes flashing with embarrassment and resentment. She was about to mock Hua Li for being unsophisticated when Fen Yu stopped her in a low voice, "Enough, Wu Yu!"
Fen Yu turned to Hua Li and apologized: "My sister is too spoiled. I apologize to both of you on her behalf."
Why is Fen Yu coming over to talk to me so many times? Something's fishy.
Upon hearing Huali's thoughts, Ao Bai wondered, "Is it possible that she simply wants to get to know you? Couldn't she be attracted by the host's talent and beauty?"
Huali, quite self-aware, took a bite of the pork hock, "But I need to have some too."
"It's nothing." Not wanting to say more to Fen Yu, Hua Li casually picked up a bamboo cup and drank. The clear, mellow sweetness exploded on her taste buds the moment it entered her throat.
Huali's eyes lit up.
She immediately reached for a new cup and placed it on the chair. "Ao Bai, have a taste."
Ao Bai jumped up high, let out a meow, and started licking the cup.
The man and the cat instantly found joy in life and drank to their hearts' content.
Fen Yu found it amusing, and the corners of her lips involuntarily curled up. "This is wine brewed from red glutinous rice and morning dew from the back mountain. If Hua Li likes it, I'll have someone send you a few more jars."
Huali was about to refuse the person next to her, but Luo Chuan was faster. He snatched the cup from her hand and said, "This wine is extremely strong. If you get drunk, I'll leave you here to feed the snakes."
You'll be the first to die from the snake's poison!
Huali wasn't afraid at all; after three or four cups, she only felt thirsty.
She casually picked up a juicy red fruit and was about to take a bite when she heard Fen Yu continue, "This is the Spirit Dew Fruit of the Witch Clan. It grows in the Sacred Tree Forest. The peel contains a trace amount of witchcraft poison, so it must be peeled along the grain with a silver knife before it can be eaten."
"Huh?" Huali felt overwhelmed and gave up after a second. "It's too much trouble. Forget it, I won't eat it."
Fen Yu smiled and reached out to scoop up a spoonful of soup, about to add it to Hua Li's bowl, when a slender hand took the Spirit Mist Fruit from the table.
A look of surprise flashed across Fen Yu's eyes, and when Wu Yu saw Luo Chuan's actions, she gritted her teeth.
The person who was about to throw the rosewood to feed the snakes was now twirling the silver knife in a beautiful arc at his fingertips and had actually started slicing the spirit mist fruit.
Fen Yu suddenly felt uncertain. If it really was that person, how could she condescend to do this for a human girl?
Luo Chuan remained oblivious to everything around him.
His peeling motion was extremely slow, the silver knife moving like a fish skimming along the fruit flesh; the simple action was performed with an air of refined elegance and composure.
Huali's mind was not on this at all. The cultivators not far away had shifted their discussion from rare and precious materials to demonic beasts. After a few rounds of drinks, someone suddenly shouted.
"If you ask me, among the demon race, half-demons are the most vile. Demon blood mixed with human marrow—aren't they just naturally evil creatures?"
As soon as he said this, others immediately echoed his sentiments.
"According to the Huainanzi, those who are half-demons are not tolerated by Heaven and Earth, and should be bound to the Demon Refining Tower to suffer forty-nine bolts of heavenly lightning!"
"Exactly, exactly, a mere half-demon dares to dream of ascension..."
"Human face and animal ears are the most disgusting..."
Luo Chuan's peeling hand suddenly stopped, his heterochromatic eyes flashing unreadable.
Just when Fen Yu thought he would make a move, he saw Luo Chuan calmly take back the fruit peel that was about to break.
He placed the glistening white fruit pulp into the dish and lazily began, "Little Flower..."
Thud—
The girl suddenly slammed her hand on the table and stood up!
With her rosy cheeks, Luo Chuan pointed at the group of chattering cultivators as his eyes widened slightly.
