Chapter 42 Is this the Demon Lord Wen Jin?
Huali gasped, her hair standing on end.
Those pale gold eyes and the red beauty mark under her right eye gave her a bad feeling in an instant.
No sooner said than done, Huali, with her survival instincts kicking in, pulled out her veil and covered most of her face, fearing that she would be recognized if she was even a second late.
"This can't be... Ao Bai, did Zhang Dezhu not cook the mushrooms properly at noon today?" Hua Li's lips twitched, and her hand holding the card was trembling. "Otherwise, why do I feel like I'm hallucinating?"
Ao Bai was equally shocked: "..." It was wondering why it suddenly sensed that the Demon Lord's luck had weakened a few days ago. It turned out it wasn't its fault.
Seeing that Huali stood there in a daze without making any further moves, Xiao Wenjin's tense shoulder blades relaxed slightly, but he still stared intently at her.
Like a wolf cub guarding its territory.
Huali didn't notice the change in the other person; her eyes were fixed on the card, which was glowing with a slight heat.
The card circled above the doghouse but didn't stop; instead, it returned to Karin's hand.
Karin, her heart pounding in her throat, was completely bewildered. "What's going on? Is it or isn't it?"
Ao Bai was also completely bewildered. "If it really is the Demon Lord, judging from the previous two times, the cards should have stopped. But if it isn't, why are they glowing?"
"You're asking me?" Huali glanced sideways and threw a flying knife at him.
"Wait two minutes!" Ao Bai meowed and started the automatic search.
During this brief moment, Huali tentatively took a few steps forward. As soon as she moved, the wolf cub's expression immediately turned fierce, and the four iron chains on his shoulder blades tightened around his flesh as he moved forward, making a jingling sound.
Huali felt sorry for him just watching, but the other person seemed oblivious, clearly already used to it.
Upon closer inspection, the facial features do indeed resemble each other, especially the beauty mark under the eye.
But Hua Li was also worried, since the few times she had met Wen Jin, they were either chasing or running away.
It vividly portrays her escape, his pursuit, and her inescapable fate.
There was no time to look closely at his face.
Although the little wolf cub in front of me still has a chubby face, you can already vaguely see the handsome bone structure, and the shape of its nose is also beginning to be sharp.
From a top-down angle, the rose petals perfectly capture the shadows cast by the child's eyelashes in the harsh sunlight, adding a touch of childlike innocence to the sharp corners of the eyes.
"Found it!" Ao Bai opened his eyes. "Headquarters replied that the card glowing indicates a reaction with the chosen one of destiny, but if the chosen one of destiny suffers too much physical damage, it will affect the destiny value and cause the card to malfunction. The probability of this is 0.001."
"A 0.001% chance I could encounter this?" Huali's eyes widened. "You think...?"
"Wait a minute, someone's coming!" Ao Bai quickly interrupted her. Hua Li turned and ran into the small, dilapidated house across the street, squatted down, and looked into the courtyard through the cracks in the rotten wood.
Three boys dressed as eunuchs entered.
The three looked at each other and slowly moved to the front of the doghouse.
"Is this the dog Cheng Yuan keeps? It doesn't look like much."
"He almost bit Cheng Yuan to death. Now that he's tied up here with the black iron, he's not scary at all. I heard he's incredibly resilient and doesn't make a sound no matter how much he's tortured."
"Really? You try it if you dare."
"Let's give it a try." One of the shifty-eyed eunuchs rolled up his sleeves, clearly prepared. He quickly untied the whip wrapped around his waist. "See this? The barbs on it."
The little eunuch proudly showed it off, "This is made from the teeth of a steel-toothed beast. It will draw blood when it touches the skin. It's very powerful."
Upon hearing this, the other two eunuchs urged him on with envy.
Huali twitched her fingers and looked towards the child in the doghouse.
The child remained quiet throughout, as if he hadn't heard them, and never once glanced in Hana's direction.
The three eunuchs became even more excited when they saw that he remained silent, and the eunuch with the whip swiftly lashed him out.
The puppy in the doghouse remained silent, only flinching slightly when its flesh was provoked, before immediately returning to its deathly stillness, showing no trace of its previous ferocity.
As Karin was puzzled, the answer became obvious.
"Hahaha, did you guys see that? He just shuddered a bit. I told you my whip is the most powerful. He didn't even react when Cheng Yuan hit him. It's so boring."
Amid the flattery of the other two eunuchs, the young eunuch wielding the whip became increasingly ruthless, but apart from initially cowering, the child showed no further reaction.
Clearly, this displeased the other three. Another eunuch stepped forward and stomped on the child's wrist. "How about this? Let's see if you'll do anything." The sound of bones cracking could be faintly heard as his foot ground against the child's wrist.
The last eunuch was initially a bit timid, but seeing that the child hadn't resisted for so long, he had a sudden inspiration. He stepped forward and was about to undo his belt when he shouted, "Watch me... Ah!!"
Unable to bear it any longer, Huali disregarded her own safety and picked up a stone, smashing it hard on the little eunuch's head.
He had only unzipped his pants halfway when he immediately covered his head and wailed.
The other two were startled and stopped what they were doing. "What's wrong with you?"
The wailing eunuch felt a hot stream flowing down his forehead. He reached up and touched it, finding his hand covered in blood. He immediately fainted.
The remaining two looked at each other, and the one with the whip, being bolder, yelled at the small, dilapidated house: "Stop playing tricks and come out here!"
A thought flashed through Huali's mind. She simply let her hair down and removed her veil. The wooden card in her hand transformed into vines, slowly pulling her up until only her hideous right face was visible. Her voice was mournful as she cried, "Give me back my life..."
Before this cold palace was abandoned, many concubines had indeed died there, and rumors of it being haunted had always circulated. The demonic cultivator was naturally unafraid, but these three eunuchs were ordinary people. They immediately let out a scream, dragged their fallen companions, and fled in a panic.
"A ghost!!!"
Huali sneered and flicked her wrist. The wooden card slithered around them like a snake, tripped them hard to the ground, covered their mouths and noses, and began to whip them wildly.
They were only left on the roadside after all three of them had completely passed out and were covered in wounds.
After doing all this, Karin put her veil back on and came out from behind the door.
The little wolf cub, who had just been able to barely get up, was now completely exhausted. If it weren't for his trembling eyelashes, Huali would have thought he was dead.
Huali carefully stepped forward, her shoes sinking into the blackened hay at the edge of the doghouse, the hay still faintly bleeding from the way she stepped on it.
Huali's gaze swept over the child's torn and bleeding wounds, then looked at the blackened feeding trough beside him. A layer of bone fragments floated in the foul-smelling sewage, the stench of which was thick and foul.
A look of reluctance flashed in her eyes as she tried to push him away, but the moment she touched the hem of his clothes, a drop of blood appeared on her fingertip.
Huali had no choice but to poke his still relatively intact chubby face. The soft touch startled Huali. Just as she was about to hand him the Life-Giving Pill, the little wolf cub, who hadn't reacted at all, suddenly opened his eyes.
She bit down hard on Huali's finger.
