At S City No. 2 Middle School, the bell rang for the end of get out of class. As soon as the teacher walked out the door, the classroom was instantly filled with the noise of students.
The sounds of boys fighting and girls talking together.
Most of the girls in the class couldn't help but look towards the corner of the last row of the classroom while talking.
I saw the boy sitting there picked up a bottle of mineral water on the table, unscrewed it, tilted his head back, and rolled his Adam's apple up and down. With a "bang", the bottle was thrown into the trash can. Then the boy stood up and walked out of the classroom.
The other boys sitting in the back row saw him walking out of the classroom and casually asked, "Where are you going, Brother Huai? Is he going to the next class?"
"I said I asked for leave." Chi Huai continued to walk out without changing his pace.
"Awesome! You even dare to skip the teacher's class."
"What's the matter? Brother Ren Huai is the class's favorite. What's wrong with skipping a class?"
"Hey, why are you talking so cheesy?"
"You're the corny one."
The other boys started to make noise again, but Chi Huaili ignored the discussions behind him.
The other girls in the class watched him disappear through the door and looked away with melancholy.
The girls looked at each other and couldn't help chattering.
"Chi Huai is so handsome! Absolutely amazing. Being in the same class with him is a visual experience every day, and my aesthetic taste has improved."
"Come on, let's make a bet on how many girls from other classes will come and hand in their love letters today."
"I'll bet five."
"Sister, be bold, you can have all ten."
In a corner of the abandoned back door of the school, green vines covered the wall. Chi Huai leaned against the wall with his back slightly bent, holding a cigarette in his right hand.
This place is far away from the teaching building, and no one comes here during the short break, so it seems particularly quiet.
"Meow." A white wild cat was pacing under a tree. It was obviously often fed by students, so it had grown plump and its belly shook when it walked.
The cat was not afraid of strangers. It walked to Chi Huai with its paws and meowed flatteringly. It was obvious that it regarded Chi Huai as its new owner and asked for food.
Chi Huai looked at its pair of dark green eyes without any movement. The cat meowed anxiously a few more times, obviously complaining about why the shit shoveler was so rude.
"Bang" something was thrown in from outside, scaring the cat. It meowed quickly and ran into the grass.
Chi Huai looked up and saw a schoolbag thrown on the ground. He moved his eyes upwards and saw a pair of hands on the wall. After a while, a girl flipped over and sat on the wall, and the fluttering hem of her school uniform fell back on her legs.
The girl was facing away from the light, and her face was not very clear. One could only see her ponytail swaying behind her and some fluff on her forehead.
She sat on the wall that was more than 1.5 meters high without showing any fear. Without hesitating for long, she jumped down from the wall cleanly and neatly and stood steadily on the ground. Then she bent down and picked up the schoolbag on the ground.
As she moved, the school uniform top revealed a small part of her fair and slender waist, which was soon hidden under the hem.
The girl walked towards him with her schoolbag in her hand. When she saw him standing there with a cigarette, she was neither surprised nor embarrassed about being caught late and climbing over the wall. Her eyes lightly passed over his face and she greeted him calmly, "Hi." Then she walked past him and went to the teaching building as usual, just like she would treat a stranger.
When she passed by him, Chi Huai's eyes unconsciously passed over her face, and he could see small beads of sweat oozing from the tip of her nose.
A gust of wind blew by, and the corner behind the back door became quiet again. Chi Huai extinguished the cigarette in his hand against the wall.
After a while, she stood up and walked towards the teaching building with her hands in her pockets. The person in front of her was a few meters away from her. Even though she was late, she did not seem to be in a panic or urgency. She continued to walk slowly, and her ponytail swayed gently behind her as she walked.
The two walked for a while, one in front of the other, and then walked back to back in two different directions.
Chi Huai came in from the back door under the teacher's gaze, pulled out a chair and sat down calmly.
The head teacher paused, looked at him and continued teaching without saying anything.
Seeing that the head teacher wasn't paying attention, his deskmate moved closer to him and lowered his voice, "Didn't you ask for leave?" Then he sniffed with his sensitive nose, "Did you go out to smoke?"
"Yeah." Chi Huai said lightly.
My deskmate just said a few words out of curiosity and didn't say anything else.
Seeing the head teacher turned around and wrote on the blackboard, some boys in the back seat couldn't help but chat. One of them took out his phone and said, "Look, here are the beautiful photos of the new campus beauty. It seems that the campus beauty is late today."
"No, no, let me see." The other boys in the back row couldn't help but want to snatch his phone to have a look.
"Fuck, animal, my phone."
Somehow the phone landed on Chi Huai's desk. Chi Huai glanced at it casually and paused.
The girl in the photo was standing at the classroom door and was stopped by a teacher. She glanced casually at the camera. Her bright face and cold peach blossom eyes made the bald teacher standing next to her look inexplicably pleasing to the eye.
"Let me see." The phone was taken away by his deskmate. Chi Huai withdrew his gaze and looked out the window.
When Chi Huai woke up in the morning, his throat was dry and his head was dizzy. He took the remote control and turned off the air conditioner.
I reached out and took the phone from the bedside table. It showed that the time was 9:48.
Chi Huai pinched his forehead and his nose was a little blocked, obviously he had a cold.
"Hey, haven't you gone to school yet?" Aunt Wu asked in surprise as she watched Chi Huai coming down from upstairs. Seeing that he was wearing a mask, she asked with concern, "Have you caught a cold? Do you want to ask for leave? Uncle Liu is going to see Mr. Chi off."
"No need." Chi Huai replied, walking out with his schoolbag on one hand.
"Oh, why don't you get breakfast?" Aunt Wu went into the kitchen to get him breakfast, but when she came out, the man was gone.
Chi Huai held the hanging ring on the bus with one hand and lowered his head to look at the mobile phone in his hand.
With a "click", the bus stopped and started again.
After a while, Chi Huai noticed a girl standing in front of him. Her ponytail gently brushed against his wrist, leaving a fragrance.
"Yike" the bus braked suddenly, and the girl in front of him bumped into his arms due to inertia, her back pressed against Chi Huai's chest. For a moment, Chi Huai felt as if a handful of soft marshmallows were stuffed in his arms.
"Sorry." The girl turned around and apologized to him as soon as she stood firm. The warmth disappeared in an instant. Chi Huai raised his eyes and met her peach blossom eyes.
"Yeah." Chi Huai said in a low voice.
The girl had obviously never taken the bus before. When the bus started, Chi Huai saw that she was about to fall forward, so he reached out and grabbed her arm, but her hand was tightly wrapped in his hand. When she stood firmly, Chi Huai let go of his hand.
"Hold the ring." Chi Huai said lightly.
The girl followed his instructions, glanced at the ring on her head, and then pulled it up. She turned around and thanked him again: "Thank you."
Chi Huai nodded and turned to look out the car window. Cars and trees passed by outside the window, occasionally reflecting the scene in the car.
The girl in front of him lowered her head slightly, holding her schoolbag to her chest, her hand pinching the plush doll hanging on the bag. When she raised her head to look out the window, Chi Huai looked away and lowered his head to look at his phone again.
Chi Huai got off the bus. The girl walked in front of him. She glanced at the school gate and changed direction. After a few steps, she turned and looked at him, "Hey, classmate, are you going through the main gate? I know a place where you can climb over the wall to get in."
Chi Huai paused, looked up at her when he heard her words, and walked towards her direction under her gaze.
The two walked one in front and the other behind, and soon they came to a low wall at the back door. The girl skillfully threw her schoolbag in.
Seeing her trying to climb over the wall, Chi Huai turned his gaze to the side and saw a red plastic bag on the street fluttering in the wind.
"Hey, do you want me to give you a hand?" The girl was already sitting on the wall. Seeing the boy looking into the distance with his face turned sideways, she lowered her head to look at the school uniform skirt she was wearing, and the corners of her mouth curled up.
Chi Huai heard the voice and glanced over. The girl was sitting on the wall, with her head slightly lowered. She stretched out a hand to him with her palm facing up.
"No need." Chi Huai threw his schoolbag in and jumped onto the wall in three or two steps.
"Okay." The girl withdrew her hand and watched him climb up and then easily jumped off the wall.
The two of them each picked up their backpacks from the ground and walked towards the teaching building. After a few steps, they turned a corner and saw the Dean standing there with his hands behind his back, glaring at them. His sparse hair was shaking with anger. "Okay, I caught you. Not only are you two late, but you also climbed over the wall."
Chi Huai and she looked at each other. Even though they were caught by the dean, they did not panic at all. They stood there and listened to his lecture obediently.
"Will you two know each other later?" The dean of studies looked at the boy and girl, his eyes scrutinizing as he thought of something.
"I don't know him." They said in unison.
Seeing their calm faces, not panicking at all, the Dean put aside his suspicions and said unhappily, "Even if you don't know them, being late and climbing over the wall is not allowed. Come with me."
The two of them could only follow the dean to the office and endure his nagging lectures along the way.
After being scolded by the dean of studies, the two were sent to write a letter of apology.
The meeting room was empty, the windows were not closed, the curtains were half-drawn, and the sunlight poured in.
Chi Huai was sitting across from her at a distance, writing his self-criticism. The only sound in the meeting room was the "swish swish" of writing.
Chi Huai wrote halfway, pinched his forehead, and felt his head getting even more dizzy.
There was a "thump" sound, and the pen fell to the ground. Lin Chaojin looked up and saw that the boy had fallen asleep with his head resting on his arm.
The curtains behind him were blown up and down by the wind, and some sunlight shone on the half of his face where he was wearing a mask. Lin Chaojin could see his long eyelashes that looked transparent under the sunlight.
Because he was bent over, his back was bulging, showing the thinness of a young man.
"Wake up, you little brat! You can still fall asleep when I ask you to write a self-criticism."
Chi Huai frowned, woken up by the sound. When he looked up, there was no one opposite him.
The dean tapped two pieces of paper on his desk and asked, "Have you finished writing your self-review?"
Following his movements, Chi Huai looked at the two pieces of paper on the table. If he looked carefully, he could see that the handwriting on one of the papers was different from his.
"Give it to me when you're done writing." The dean was about to pick up the two pieces of paper on the table.
"I'll write another one for you later." Chi Huai resisted his action, stood up and took the two pieces of paper in his hands first.
"Ah? Didn't you finish writing it?" The head teacher looked at him puzzledly, wondering if he felt that his ideological review was not profound enough.
Chi Huai didn't say anything else and said, "I'm going to class first."
"Hey, this kid."
On the school rooftop, Chi Huai stood in a corner, leaning on the railing with a cigarette in his hand.
"Squeak" was the sound of the door being pushed open, followed by footsteps not far away, gradually moving away from him and stopping in another corner.
The rooftop became quiet again, with the sound of students reading from downstairs coming from time to time, and the sound of cranes from the construction site not far away also coming over.
Chi Huai finished smoking a cigarette and walked towards the door. Obviously, the man heard the footsteps and looked towards him. Chi Huai glanced at him casually.
The girl leaned against the railing. She didn't have her hair tied in a ponytail today, and her hair was flying in the wind on the rooftop. She held a cigarette in one hand and raised her other hand to casually remove the hair that was blown into her mouth.
Hearing the voice, the pair of peach blossom eyes looked over indifferently, stayed on his face for a second as if looking at a stranger, then turned away without any care and turned her back to him.
Chi Huai walked forward without changing his pace, opened the door to the rooftop, and with a "creak", the rooftop and the outside of the rooftop were separated into two worlds.
"Meow meow, cat, why are you so greedy? You've eaten so much that your belly is so full."
At the corner, Chi Huai, who was holding two sausages in his hands, stopped when he heard the sound.
From here he could see a girl sitting on the lawn under a big tree not far away, with her schoolbag thrown aside.
The girl held the wild cat with dark green eyes in her arms, with cat food on the palm of one hand. The wild cat was eating obediently in her palm.
Seeing the cat being so well behaved, the girl couldn't help but reach out and gently stroke its fur a few times. A faint smile appeared on the corner of her mouth, and her voice was like a clear mountain spring, "You cat, you are not shy at all."
"Meow." The cat was obviously enjoying her service, and it raised its head and rubbed against her face.
"Hmm." The girl held the cat in both hands, her brows relaxed as the cat acted coquettishly.
The man and the cat stayed together under the tree until a voice came from not far away, "Chao Jin, let's go."
"I'm coming." The girl raised her voice to respond to her companion, then gently touched the cat's head, put the cat under the lawn, and said to it, "I'm leaving. I'll come to feed you next time." Her voice was low, like coaxing a child.
After saying that, he stood up, picked up his schoolbag and walked in the other direction.
Chi Huai stood there for a while before walking over. The cat was lying on the lawn at this time. It had obviously just eaten and was basking in the sun comfortably.
Chi Huai squatted down, and the cat looked up at him lazily. Seeing the sausage in his hand, it was not interested. It just meowed softly and lowered its head again.
Chi Huai reached out and gently stroked the cat, "You heartless thing, you even asked me for food before."
Chi Huai squatted for a while and stood up again. He glanced casually and saw a familiar plush pendant on the lawn. He bent down and picked it up. The fluffy touch made his palms itchy.
"Hey, Jinjin, where is the pendant on your schoolbag?" Li Yin walked beside her, glanced at her schoolbag unintentionally and asked in confusion.
When Lin Chaojin heard her words, she glanced at her schoolbag. The pendant was gone. "It must have been lost somewhere."
"I saw it this afternoon. It must have been lost just now. Do you want to go look for it?" Li Yin asked.
Lin Chaojin shook her head and said indifferently, "No need, it's not something important."
"All right."
