Chapter 13 Assigning Tasks

"Sister, please take it! I've just arrived at the Harvest Brigade and I don't know anything. I'll inevitably need your guidance in the future. If you don't accept it, I'll feel embarrassed to come here!" Wen Xi wrapped the fruit candies and stuffed them directly into Chang Qingqing's pocket.

Chang Qingqing laughed heartily, "Okay, wait a moment, I'll go pick some vegetables for you!"

Then Chang Qingqing turned around and went back into the house, took out a basket, went into the vegetable garden and started picking vegetables. She picked a large handful of each kind for Wenxi, filling the basket to the brim.

"Xiaoxi, take these vegetables home and eat them first. Come find me when you're done. We still have vegetables growing in our own plot of land, enough for us." Chang Qingqing handed the vegetable basket to Wenxi and said with a smile.

"Thank you, sister. I'll head back now. Once we're settled, please come over for a housewarming party. You absolutely must come!" After thanking Chang Qingqing, Wen Xi carried a basket of vegetables back home.

Upon entering the kitchen, Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue were astonished. Shen Jiaojiao excitedly asked, "Xiaoxi, where did you get so many dishes?"

"I traded some fruit candies with the girl next door," Wen Xi said with a smile.

Jiang Yue was full of admiration. "Xiao Xi, you are really amazing. You are better at socializing than us. We will listen to you. In the future, you must tell us what to do. Otherwise, it is not fair to you. The three of us are a team. We can't let you do too much."

Wen Xi smiled and nodded, "I understand, don't worry, I won't let you guys be idle."

If three people live together, wouldn't she be exhausted if she took on all the responsibilities?

She only wanted to protect Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue, but she didn't intend to support them. She wasn't a nanny.

Wenxi took all the vegetables out of the basket and placed them on the floor in the corner of the kitchen. Then she took a handful each of winter cabbage, chives, yellow cabbage, and garlic leaves, and put three yellow cabbages into a wooden basin. She said, "Jiaojiao, Xiaoyue, now I'll trouble you to wash these vegetables. I'll take the basket to the sister next door."

The two houses were separated only by an alley that was only a meter or two wide. It was just a short walk away. When Wenxi returned after delivering the basket, Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue were washing vegetables by the well!

Wen Xi first went to check on Jin Changfeng and saw that he had already moved to the second door. Then she went to the kitchen and started preparing the dishes. She first washed and cut the half pound of cured meat she brought from home and put it on a plate for later use. Jin Changfeng had helped them so much, so they couldn't just let him eat vegetables. Every household has vegetables, and they're not anything rare.

Serving someone such a thing is hardly sincere.

Afterwards, Wenxi cracked a few more eggs and whisked them into a golden and even egg mixture. Once Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yuejiang had washed and brought the vegetables in, Wenxi had one person tend the fire while she started cooking.

Wenxi stir-fried garlic leaves with cured pork, stir-fried chives with eggs, and stir-fried yellow heart cabbage. Finally, she made a soup with winter cabbage.

The temperature is low now, and the food will get cold quickly after being cooked, so Wenxi called Jin Changfeng over to eat first, and then changed the other door locks after they finished eating.

Jin Changfeng went to the well to wash his hands, then went to the kitchen. When he saw the delicious-looking food on the table, his eyes flickered slightly.

Wen Xi said apologetically, "I don't know if the food will suit Comrade Jin's taste, so let's just eat like this for now. If you don't like it, I'll invite Comrade Jin to a state-run restaurant next time."

People from different places will definitely have different tastes. Wenxi didn't know if the food she cooked would suit Jin Changfeng's taste, because she cooked it according to her own taste.

Jin Changfeng picked up the sweet potato rice in front of him and started eating. He then picked up a piece of stir-fried eggs with chives. The fragrance of chives mixed with the savory aroma of eggs. Jin Changfeng thought this was the best meal he had ever eaten.

Seeing Wen Xi looking at him expectantly, Jin Changfeng said with a smile, "It's delicious."

"That's good." Wen Xi finally felt relieved. Since Jin Changfeng was satisfied, she didn't need to invite him to the state-run restaurant.

Although she brought a lot of money with her, she didn't have a job and didn't have the same amazing advantages as the female lead, so she naturally had to save money wherever possible and use every penny wisely.

The four of them finished their meal completely, leaving nothing on their plates. Wenxi had used oil in her stir-fry, and cold water couldn't remove the oil, so they had to boil water to wash the pots and dishes.

After finishing his meal, Jin Changfeng went to continue changing the door locks.

"Jiaojiao, Xiaoyue, the three of us are about to officially begin our rural life. Although we don't know how many years we'll be living here, there are some things we need to discuss in advance to avoid unnecessary conflicts. I've prepared some slips of paper; let's draw lots! To be fair, we'll draw lots once a month from now on." Wenxi placed three small slips of paper in a bowl and beckoned Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue to come and draw lots.

Now, the three of them are left to rely on each other. Wenxi doesn't want them to have unnecessary conflicts over everyday matters. To avoid becoming cannon fodder, the three of them can only stick together for warmth and help each other.

After Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue had both taken their notes, Wen Xi took the remaining notes, opened them, and found that they were about cooking.

Shen Jiaojiao washes the dishes.

Jiang Yue is responsible for cleaning.

Everyone washes their own clothes and cleans their own rooms, so Jiang Yue only needs to clean the common areas.

With this arrangement, there wasn't much work to do, and they didn't have to work so hard.

"Xiaoxi, the door locks have all been changed, so I'll head back now."

It was getting dark, and it wasn't good for him to stay here any longer. If others saw him, they might falsely accuse him of having a relationship with one of them, which would damage their reputation.

Before he could successfully start a relationship with Wen Xi, he would never allow anyone to wrong her.

As the two walked side by side, neither of them spoke, and they walked quietly toward the gate.

Jin Changfeng glanced at the thin, pitiful figure beside him and felt a very comfortable atmosphere. He also felt that they were exceptionally well-matched, and there was no one more suitable for each other in the world.

"Comrade Jin, thank you." Wen Xi said gratefully as she saw Jin Changfeng to the gate of the courtyard.

There are so many good people around at this time; in just two days, Jin Changfeng has provided them with so much help.

Jin Changfeng stopped, turned around, faced Wen Xi, looked at her with a gentle gaze, and said in a warm tone, "Xiao Xi, if you need anything, you can come to me anytime. If you don't want to come to me, you can send the village children to find me."
