Chapter 140 A Better Dating Experience

The days passed by in a flurry of activity. That evening, Wenxi sat behind the stove reading He Chen'an's letter. He Chen'an said he would be off on Saturday, and if she didn't agree to him coming to the countryside to find her, he would wait for her in town, and they could stroll around the town together.

As long as Wen Xi arrives at the canteen before 10 o'clock and doesn't delay the cooking, she'll be fine. After all, she has another job, which is to gather pig feed, so she doesn't have to go as early as Wang Xiaoju and Sun Mei.

So she could squeeze out a few hours to meet with He Chen'an. Wen Xi replied to He Chen'an and arranged to meet at the market at 6 a.m. on Saturday, so they would have three hours to meet.

There's no way around it since we're far apart; we can only try our best to squeeze out time to meet, otherwise there's no point in making this friend.

On the morning of the appointed day, Wen Xi collected the bamboo shoots that Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue had picked over the past few days, and then set off with the spicy dried fish for He Chen'an.

Although there was an electric bicycle, Wen Xi dared not ride it, for fear of running into He Chen'an on the way, something that was truly inexplicable.

Sure enough, just as I left the Fengshou Brigade, I saw a bicycle parked on the main road, with a tall figure straddling it.

Wenxi was glad she hadn't gone out on her electric bicycle, otherwise...

Although she didn't know He Chen'an very well, she felt that if he could see her an hour earlier, he was unlikely to obediently linger in town for an hour.

"Xiaoxi." He Chen'an got off his bicycle and walked towards Wenxi with his tall figure. Wenxi was then pulled into his arms and held tightly.

It was still dark, and the moonlight was beautiful, shining on the two of them and casting their reflections as they nestled together, creating a rather romantic atmosphere.

There's no one on the road at this time, and no one will appear, so there's no need to worry about being seen, let alone having anyone jump out and stand on the moral high ground to criticize them.

The sound of their heartbeats became exceptionally loud and clear in the otherwise silent environment.

Wen Xi leaned against He Chen'an's chest. He smelled only of soap and sunshine, which was very fresh and pleasant.

"Xiaoxi." Hearing He Chen'an call her, Wenxi looked up at him in confusion. Under the lemon moonlight, everything was hazy and indistinct.

He Chen'an carried the basket on his back, then lifted Wen Xi up and placed her on the crossbeam in front of him. It was only a little past five o'clock, and no one was open yet, so eating or shopping was out of the question.

So He Chen'an took Wen Xi on his bicycle and rode slowly. As long as they were together, everything was interesting.

He Chen'an rode very slowly, and Wen Xi wasn't in a hurry either. After all, it was still dark and there wasn't much to do. After riding around for a while, when it was almost time, the two of them went to the state-run restaurant for breakfast.

The breakfast was quite plentiful, with steamed buns, mantou, dumplings, noodles, porridge, and even soy milk!

Wenxi ordered a bowl of soy milk, a bowl of shredded pork noodles, and twelve meat buns to go, four for each of the three of them.

At that time, the working philosophy of state-run restaurants was not "customer first," but "they themselves first." They had secure jobs and inherently possessed a sense of pride.

Of course, everyone was already used to the staff's attitude, so no one said anything.

After breakfast was ready, He Chen'an got up and brought the breakfast over for the two of them.

"Thank you." Wen Xi smiled gently, then picked up her chopsticks and started eating the shredded pork noodles. Although the service wasn't great, the portion was generous and there was a lot of shredded pork, making it very satisfying to eat.

Wen Xi also ordered a bowl of soy milk. Afraid that the noodles would be wasted if she couldn't finish them, she first gave He Chen'an a third of it before eating. Then she lowered her head and started eating.

On a morning in March or April, Wenxi ate until she was stuffed with a bowl of soy milk and a large bowl of shredded pork noodles. She was covered in beads of sweat, and her lips were red and glossy, making her look very lovely.

After breakfast, Wenxi took He Chen'an to queue up to buy meat. Meat was in limited supply, so everyone could only buy a little. However, offal and bones were unlimited. Wenxi only bought one set of offal, two pig trotters and ten pounds of bones. Because He Chen'an was there, she couldn't cheat, so she could only honestly buy a little less.

Wenxi needs to return to the Harvest Brigade before 10 o'clock, which means she has to leave before 9 o'clock. So there isn't much time left before they part ways.

It's spring planting season, and the fields on both sides of the main road leading to the countryside are bustling with activity. If He Chen'an were to ride his bicycle to take Wenxi back to the Fengshou Brigade, the news would probably spread like wildfire in the countryside, where there's not much entertainment, in less than half an hour.

This is also why Wen Xi disagreed with He Chen'an taking her home directly, because she wanted to keep a low profile for the next few years and didn't want to attract too much attention.

To make it easier for Wenxi to get back later, after buying the meat, He Chen'an drove Wenxi to a grove of trees at the border of the town, where the two of them could stay together for a while.

Once inside the woods, even if someone passes by outside, they won't see them.

Wen Xi recalled what the team members had said about going into the woods. Did she and He Chen'an count as going into the woods now?

It probably doesn't count, because they are both single, which is different from those in the team who have families and are having affairs.

"What's wrong?" He Chen'an asked curiously, looking at Wen Xi with a happy expression as he noticed her smile.

"Spring plowing is almost over, and we should have a two-day holiday then," Wen Xi said with a smile. After each busy farming season, everyone is given two days off to rest or replenish their household supplies.

"Really? That's great! I'll make proper arrangements to give you a better dating experience," He Chen'an said happily.

Then they could spend the whole day together, instead of just a few short hours like now, when he didn't even get enough time to hug her before they had to part.

As they were about to head back, Wenxi took a jar full of spicy dried fish from her basket and handed it to He Chen'an. "Chen'an, this is some spicy dried fish that I made to go with rice. Try it."

"Thank you, you've worked hard." He Chen'an raised his hand and ruffled Wen Xi's hair, smiling as he said, "The cafeteria has everything, I don't lack food, you don't need to go to the trouble of cooking for me in the future."

Wen Xi smiled mischievously, "I didn't make this especially for you, I made it for myself, but I just put a bottle of it in your jar after I finished making it!"

It was almost time, so Wenxi went back.

She carried the basket on her back to a place where He Chen'an's view was completely blocked, put the contents of the basket directly into the system warehouse, and then traveled light, sometimes jogging and sometimes walking briskly. When she got home, it was still a while before she could cook!
