"Chen An, where are you taking me?" It's only morning, why are we going back so soon?
"You'll find out soon enough." He Chen'an turned to look at Wen Xi and smiled mysteriously.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the foot of a mountain in Wansong Town, on the outskirts of the county. He Chen'an locked the bicycle and then pulled Wen Xi along the sheep farm path up the mountain.
"You seem to know this place very well. Have you brought other women here before?" Wen Xi asked curiously, noticing how familiar He Chen'an seemed with the area.
Seeing He Chen'an looking at her with disapproval, Wen Xi patted her mouth and smiled sheepishly, "Sorry, I forgot what you said."
He Chen'an said this was the first time he had made friends with a female lesbian, so he must have never brought any other women here before.
“There’s a man-made reservoir nearby, built in the 1950s. My colleague brought me here to fish, so I know a little about this place.” Climbing the mountain was a bit tiring, so He Chen’an squatted down, put his arm around Wen Xi’s legs, and picked her up. As a result, Wen Xi felt like she was standing on the shoulders of a giant, able to see further from a higher vantage point.
Looking into the distance, she could indeed see the shimmering water; He Chen'an really hadn't lied to her.
"Did you catch any fish?" Wenxi asked curiously.
He Chen'an shook his head. "No."
Wenxi couldn't help but laugh. Fish aren't so easy to catch.
After walking for a while, He Chen'an led Wen Xi to a valley between two mountains. There, they saw a sea of flowers, with flowers of various colors blooming in competition, swaying gently in the morning breeze, a breathtaking sight.
Wen Xi was stunned. She then hurriedly nudged He Chen'an's shoulder. When He Chen'an put her down, she excitedly ran forward, as happy as a child.
"Chen An, you look so beautiful!" Wen Xi exclaimed excitedly.
Seeing Wenxi's happy expression, He Chen'an was also very happy. It was a rare opportunity to go on a date, and he only wanted to make her happy and create unforgettable memories for both of them so that he could savor them during the days they wouldn't see each other in the future.
He Chen'an bent down and picked some flowers of various colors, then wove them into a wreath. He Chen'an was a doctor, and his hands were used to perform surgery on patients, so his hands were both steady and skillful. The wreath he wove from wildflowers was particularly beautiful. "Xiao Xi, this is for you."
Wen Xi looked at He Chen'an with bright eyes and said with a smile, "Help me put it on."
He Chen'an held the flower wreath in both hands, as if it were a phoenix crown, and carefully placed it on Wen Xi's head.
"Is it pretty?" Wen Xi twirled in front of He Chen'an and asked with a smile.
The long tassel gently brushed against He Chen'an's chest, letting him know that he was completely smitten. He had always genuinely liked Wen Xi, and now, through getting to know her, his feelings for her were deepening. If she weren't there for him in the future, he didn't know what the point of his life would be.
"Xiaoxi, you're so beautiful," He Chen'an praised sincerely.
Wearing the flower wreath he had carefully woven, Wen Xi danced gracefully amidst the sea of flowers, looking like a flower fairy. And this flower fairy would be his future partner—the thought was delightful.
It's springtime now. The mountains are lush with trees and green grass, and flowers of all colors carpet the landscape. Whether viewed from afar or up close, it looks like an oil painting.
The two of them played a game of cat and mouse amidst the sea of flowers in the valley, with her running away and him chasing. Their melodious laughter echoed through the valley, startling various birds into flight in flocks.
Along the way, Wenxi encountered many flowers that she liked, and picked a few of them, putting them in her basket. She planned to take them back and cultivate them, so that no matter where she lived in the future, she could grow a garden in her yard.
Tired from walking through the sea of flowers, Wenxi found a flat spot, rested her head on her arm, and lay down in the flower field. The spring breeze carried the fragrance of flowers, making her feel extremely comfortable.
He Chen'an also came over and lay down next to Wen Xi. He propped himself up on his back and looked at Wen Xi from the side. He saw that she had her eyes closed, picked a flower, and gently swept it over her eyelids. Then he saw that her eyeballs were rolling under her eyelids, but she did not open her eyes.
Sunbathing in the spring is so comfortable, it makes you feel drowsy. But we're in the mountains now. Although there aren't any large wild animals or much danger, there are definitely small creatures like snakes, insects, and rodents. We still need to be careful.
The two lay in the sea of flowers for a while, basking in the sun, before getting up to go back. They brushed off the petals and grass clippings from their clothes and hair, and straightened their clothes that had been wrinkled from their hug.
On the way down the mountain, Wenxi carried a basket on her back, while He Chen'an carried her on his back. To prevent Wenxi from slipping, he bounced her up a bit. In April and May, everyone was wearing very little clothing, and He Chen'an could clearly feel the softness on his back. His whole body stiffened, his ears turned bright red, and his walking posture became strange.
It took quite a while for things to return to normal.
He carried this girl on his back. They are getting to know each other now. She will be his girlfriend and wife in the future. She will definitely be his.
As Wen Xi walked, she suddenly heard rustling sounds coming from the bushes. Turning around to look, she saw a small black dog. Wen Xi quickly patted He Chen'an's shoulder, telling him to put her down. Then she reached out and grabbed the small black dog by the scruff of its neck. Upon closer inspection, she realized it wasn't a puppy. She looked at He Chen'an in confusion, "Chen'an, do you know what this is?"
He Chen'an shook his head. "I don't know either."
Wenxi squinted and searched the grass under the glaring sunlight. Finding neither its kind nor its parents, she said, "It's even smaller than a full-moon puppy. If it's left in the mountains, it'll probably die. But it's still a life. I'll take it back and ask the brigade leader what it is!"
“Okay, it’s up to you,” He Chen’an said.
Then Wenxi put the 'little black dog' into the basket.
Upon arriving at the foot of the mountain, He Chen'an rode his bicycle with Wen Xi on the back, carrying a basket on her back.
Because of the 'little black dog,' we were delayed a bit, so by the time we arrived at the state-run restaurant, it was past lunchtime. Several dishes had been erased from the sign listing today's menu, but there were still other dishes available.
Wenxi ate fried rice before leaving home in the morning, while He Chen'an was only a little later than her, but it was still dark then. They had eaten steamed buns and drunk soda on the mountain in between, and both of them were still quite hungry.
Walking to the order window, He Chen'an took out his money and ordered two bowls of rice, stewed chicken with potatoes, stir-fried vegetables, and mushroom soup. This was enough for the two of them.
