Chapter 175 You Can't Blame Anyone Else

To be honest, Wen Xi really didn't plan to date anyone during her time in the countryside. If it weren't for this incident that led her to inexplicably start dating He Chen'an and gradually fall in love with him, and if she had discovered what He Chen'an had put in the lunchbox first, she would have rejected He Chen'an without hesitation, just like she rejected Jin Changfeng.

Perhaps this is what they call fate!

Fate is so mysterious.

Seeing the bright and cheerful look on Wen Xi's face as she talked about others, Yan Zheng finally realized that he had absolutely no chance.

If so many things hadn't delayed me back then, if I hadn't kept putting it off, but instead went directly to the countryside to find her and stand up for her, would others have never had this opportunity?

Due to various events and reasons, he missed a golden opportunity.

"Xiaoxi, I wish you happiness. If anything happens to you, just call me or come find me. I will never stand idly by when it comes to your affairs," Yan Zheng said.

She was both Yan Lili's savior and his savior. If it weren't for Wen Xi, he and Yan Lili might not exist in this world anymore.

So even if they can't be together, he can't resent Wenxi, and he can't forget what Wenxi did for them.

“Brother Yan, I still hope that you can finish dealing with things and come to the countryside to accompany me openly and honestly sometime.” Wen Xi said with a smile.

The reason she associated with Yan Zheng was for this matter. She was going to stay in the countryside for a few more years and didn't want anyone to bother her.

Yan Zheng nodded. "I'll finish what I'm doing as soon as possible, and then I'll go to the countryside to find you."

Yan Zheng was filled with regret. Wen Xi had no designs on him or the Yan family; she just wanted him to accompany her to the countryside. Such a simple thing had been delayed for almost half a year. Even if he was busy, he could have squeezed out a few hours to go to the countryside. It showed that he hadn't taken Wen Xi seriously enough. So losing Wen Xi was his own fault, and he had no one else to blame but himself.

In the end, Yan Zheng left the county hospital with a belly full of regrets. The cases of Donghua's grandparents and father had not yet been decided, so Wenxi did not know what would happen to them.

When Wen Xi came out of the hospital, she saw He Chen'an waiting for her at the bus stop across the street, so she walked over quickly. When the bus arrived, the two of them boarded it.

When they arrived at Grandma Sun's house, Grandma Sun was making dumplings. Wen Xi and He Chen'an washed their hands and went over to help make dumplings. The dumplings were filled with pork and vegetables. Grandma Sun's yard also had several kinds of vegetables, which were lush and green and looked very pleasing.

After the dumplings were cooked, the three of them sat around the table and ate the steaming hot dumplings.

Grandma Sun smiled kindly and asked, "Are the dumplings delicious?"

Wen Xi smiled and nodded, "It's delicious, just like the dumplings my grandma makes. It tastes like home."

Although she was smiling, Wenxi's eyes were filled with sadness. Grandma Sun knew that her maternal grandmother must have passed away, so she said, "Xiaoxi, you can treat Grandma as family from now on. If you have nowhere to go, come to Grandma's place. Grandma will take you in."

As Grandma Sun spoke, she gave He Chen'an a haughty look, as if to say, "Don't even think about bullying Wen Xi, or I'll stand up for her."

Wen Xi smiled and nodded, "Okay."

He Chen'an turned to look at Wen Xi, his eyes filled with deep affection. How could he possibly bully Wen Xi and leave her with nowhere to go? He would only love her, protect her, pamper her, and make her happy.

It's easy to feel sleepy in the summer, especially on rainy days, when sleeping is even more comfortable. So after lunch, Wenxi and He Chenan took a nap at Grandma Sun's house.

A cool breeze blew in through the window, and Wenxi didn't feel hot at all.

When Wenxi said goodbye to Grandma Sun in the afternoon, she took the dressing box that Grandma Sun had given her with her. Grandma Sun kept reminding her to take it with her, so Wenxi had no choice but to take the dressing box with her.

On her way to pick up Donghua from the hospital, Wenxi bought a basket from the supply and marketing cooperative and put the dressing box inside. Although she liked He Chen'an, Wenxi decided not to reveal her true feelings.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Wenxi completed the discharge procedures for Donghua. She then asked He Chen'an to write a note for nutritional supplements. After saying goodbye to He Chen'an, Wenxi took Donghua to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy the supplements. Wenxi then took Donghua to catch the bus.

Upon arriving in town, the two got out of the car and walked back.

Donghua carried the nutritional supplements Wenxi had bought for her, her heart warmed. "Sister, thank you. I would have starved to death if it weren't for you."

“You’re right. If I hadn’t found you, starving and unconscious in the grass, no one would have known you starved to death. In a few days, you would have emitted a strong stench, and then flies and maggots would have crawled all over you.”

Wenxi wasn't trying to scare Donghua, but rather to let her know that she truly was her savior, and that no matter what happened in the future, she shouldn't be ungrateful.

Donghua trembled violently upon hearing Wenxi's words. She knew that if she hadn't met Wenxi, she would have ended up like this, so she felt incredibly grateful to Wenxi.

“Donghua, I’ve asked the police, and your grandparents and father won’t be coming back for the time being, so you can start planning for the future,” Wenxi said.

Donghua looked at Wenxi in confusion, "Sister, I don't know what to do."

She's only ten years old and hasn't even been to school yet, so she really doesn't know what to do in this situation. She doesn't even know how to ask for help. Otherwise, how could she have been hurt by her grandparents for so long?

“Donghua, your grandparents and father are not home right now, and your stepmother and younger siblings have all run away. Now these two houses are yours. New educated youth will be arriving soon. You can ask Captain Qian to take the opportunity to sell one of the houses and get a hundred yuan. With that money, you can enroll in school, learn some cultural knowledge, and then you can support yourself in the future,” Wenxi suggested.

Donghua is already ten years old and can take care of herself. She has a house so that she has a place to live. When she finishes her studies and leaves, she won't have to go back to this place full of pain.

After listening, Donghua nodded thoughtfully.

As they approached the intersection of Fengshou Brigade, Wenxi told Donghua to go into the village first to talk to Captain Qian about selling the house, while Wenxi followed slowly behind. She reached into her basket, put the dressing box that Grandma Sun had given her into the system warehouse, then took some things she had brought home and put them into the basket before carrying it back home.

When Wenxi arrived home, it wasn't yet time for everyone to finish work. She poured herself a glass of water, rested for a while, and then started cooking dinner.
