Chapter 217 Something's Up Tomorrow

The summer sky is like a child's face, changing in an instant. In the middle of the afternoon, the sky changed color, followed by lightning, thunder, and torrential rain.

People who were working outside rushed home.

Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue also returned, but the water in the yard was still scalding hot, so the two of them used the water to bathe and wash their hair.

After the two women finished washing up, Wenxi served them brown sugar ginger tea to help prevent them from catching a cold. Colds aren't just a winter problem; you can catch one in the summer too.

This is why people cover their belly button when they sleep in the summer.

Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue washed their hair while taking a bath, so they moved chairs to the main room and sat down to let the natural wind dry their hair.

Sleeping in late on a rainy day is the most comfortable thing. After giving the ginger tea to Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue, Wen Xi went back to her room and lay on the bed. She covered her stomach with her clothes and listened to the pattering rain outside. Wen Xi soon became drowsy.

"Knock knock." Just as Wen Xi was about to fall asleep, she heard a knock on the door in her drowsy state.

Wen Xi rubbed her eyes to wake herself up, then got up, opened her room door and went out. Shen Jiaojiao had already opened the courtyard gate, and the person knocking was Lin Yiwan.

Lin Yiwan ran in from outside the courtyard gate with an umbrella, and only put the umbrella down under the eaves, then patted the water off her clothes.

Wen Xi handed her a dry towel, "Yi Wan, what brings you here at this time?"

"This rain today is truly refreshing!" Lin Yiwan said with a smile. "There's bound to be a mushroom explosion tomorrow, let's go mushroom picking together!"

"I have things to take care of tomorrow. If you're willing to wait for me, we can pick mushrooms together when I get back this afternoon, okay?" Wen Xi looked troubled as she thought about going to see He Chen'an's 'master' tomorrow.

"Of course you can. Just come to my house and call me when you get back tomorrow afternoon. It just rained, and the mountain roads are muddy and slippery, so it's not suitable to go up the mountain too early. We should wait for the sun to dry the water." Lin Yiwan said readily.

Wen Xi turned around and went to the dining table to make Lin Yiwan a cup of ginger tea. She then brought over a chair for Lin Yiwan to sit and rest. After that, the four of them sat there, drinking tea and chatting.

The rain lasted for two or three hours. After the rain stopped, the sky seemed to have been cleansed. The entire sky was blue, very clear and clean, and the air was especially fresh.

Although it was already afternoon, the golden light of the sun, rising from the distant sky, enveloped the entire world, making it as bright as if it were eight or nine in the morning.

The mountain peaks, shrouded in mist after the heavy rain, are now enveloped in a golden hue, making them appear exceptionally beautiful.

After the rain stopped, Lin Yiwan didn't stay there any longer. Instead, she took her wet umbrella and left. Once outside Wenxi's courtyard, Lin Yiwan opened the umbrella and twirled it around, causing raindrops to splash everywhere.

Lin Yiwan was unaware that her actions caused the heart of a young man watching from a distance to pound uncontrollably.

Not long after Lin Yiwan left, there was another knock on the door. Wen Xi went to open it, and Tian Shengnan said excitedly, "Xiao Xi, it just rained, and there are lots of fish in the ditch. Let's go catch some fish together!"

"Okay, then wait for me a moment." Wen Xi quickly went back to her room, put on her boots, grabbed the fishing net, called Shen Jiaojiao and Jiang Yue, and then the group walked towards the edge of the field.

Surprisingly, there were quite a few people out fishing like them!

Where there is water, there are fish, especially in flowing water where there are even more fish. Once the net is cast, there are quite a few fish struggling and splashing inside. Wenxi doesn't pick and choose; whether it's small fish or shrimp, he just pours them directly into the wooden bucket. Anyway, the double harvest will be in a couple of days, and he'll take them out to cook for everyone.

The ridges between the fields were very muddy, and everyone's boots were soon covered in mud and grass. Dragging the heavy mud made it difficult to walk. Wenxi had to scrape the mud off her boots onto the grass from time to time. However, the harvest was quite good, and everyone's buckets were full of tools.

After catching fish outside for a while, everyone parted ways and went home.

Back home, Wenxi poured the small fish and shrimp into a wooden basin and kept them in clean water. The weather was hot now, and the small fish and shrimp were too delicate. She estimated that they wouldn't last long. So Wenxi called Shen Jiaojiao and carried the wooden basin to her room. Then she locked the door and stored the basin and the fish in the system's warehouse.

The next morning, before dawn, Wenxi set off. After leaving the Fengshou Brigade, Wenxi took out her electric bicycle and sped off in the cool morning breeze. When she arrived in the county town, it was still dark. Wenxi put the electric bicycle in the warehouse and headed towards Grandma Sun's house.

Arriving at Grandma Sun's house, Wenxi took out her basket and sat on the threshold to wait. When she heard the sounds of people getting up and making noise coming from the surrounding houses, she reached out and knocked on the door.

Grandma Sun came to open the door very quickly. She had probably just gotten up and hadn't even had time to comb her hair yet!

"Why are you here so early today?" Grandma Sun asked kindly.

"I had some things to take care of today, so I came early to deliver some things to Grandma," Wen Xi said with a smile.

Upon arriving at the main room, Wenxi took out the items from her basket one by one. Some of the items, such as malted milk powder and white sugar, would last for quite a while, so Wenxi didn't bring them this time. Instead, she brought a pound of steamed egg cakes. The steamed egg cakes were soft, fluffy, and sweet. If Grandma Sun didn't feel like cooking, she could have a couple of pieces.

Then there are two pounds of dried noodles. These noodles are made from rice flour paste, which has a different texture than wheat flour noodles.

There was also a three-pound grass carp. Grass carp has fewer bones, making it suitable for the elderly and children. Also, since Grandma Sun lives alone, if she took a fish that was too big, it would be a waste if she couldn't finish it in one meal.

The remaining items include two pounds of pork belly, a large pork leg, and one can each of canned fruit and canned meat.

"Grandma, you must eat these things promptly, and don't let them spoil. If they spoil, it'll be a waste of money, you know? Only by taking good care of your health can you witness the increasingly better days to come." Wenxi took out the items one by one, and then showed the exchange list to Grandma Sun for confirmation.

She felt bad about accepting Grandma Sun's things directly, since she wasn't her junior. But she felt more at ease accepting them by gradually exchanging them for things at market price.
