Chapter 596: Saw an Acquaintance

After releasing the sweet potatoes and eggs, Wenxi went to the cooking area and said to the woman in charge of cooking, "Girl, our unit has decided to provide some living supplies here. I've already delivered the supplies. Could you send someone over to confirm?"

When the woman heard that there were supplies available, her eyes lit up, and she quickly called for help to check the supplies.

Upon arriving at a nearby location, they saw sacks upon sacks of sweet potatoes and baskets upon baskets of eggs, and the eyes of the group turned red with envy.

Their food here is poor; they often eat wild vegetables and cornbread. I never expected to receive so many supplies today.

"Comrade, thank you so much for your help," the young woman said. "What's the name of your organization?"

"My boss told me not to say anything. He doesn't want everyone to know about this. He said it's fine as long as it helps you." Wen Xi smiled and declined, "How many people eat here in total?"

“We have about two hundred of our own people, and several hundred more people from the countryside come here to work. But they all bring their own food and ask the kitchen to heat or process it for them, so they can earn a little more money,” the girl explained.

Wenxi nodded thoughtfully. Since there were only two hundred people eating, she could donate some other things. Wenxi decided not to go back today.

Anyway, no matter how many days she stays in the mission world, it won't take her long in the real world. There was a time when she stayed in the mission world for three months, and only a few hours had passed when she returned.

However, this shouldn't be considered a mission world, because she encountered Pei Jingzhou, who lived in the same time and space as her. Just like when she saved Donghua Wang Xinru, although it was also a mission, it wasn't a mission world.

Watching the people in charge of cooking move supplies, Wen Xi made an excuse and left, then slipped into the system warehouse.

She went to the frozen food section and sorted out four hundred frozen buns and four hundred frozen chicken legs that she had previously bought wholesale, planning to take them to the cafeteria tomorrow and give each person two.

Afterwards, Wenxi came out of the system warehouse and asked the sign-in system to take her into the air so that she could look down at everything below. She saw a village at the foot of the mountain, so she asked the system to take her to the vicinity of the village and then walked towards the village.

It's not yet the time for the double harvest season here, so farm work isn't very busy, and the people working in the fields aren't exactly working up a fever.

"Auntie, who are you? What are you doing in our village?" A bold little boy approached Wenxi and asked curiously.

Wenxi said, "Little friend, I'm here to find your village chief or brigade leader. Could you go and call him for me? Or could you take me to him?"

Wenxi was afraid that others would mistake her for a child trafficker, so she did not immediately take out the candy to give to the child.

"Oh, so Auntie came to see my grandpa. Then I'll take Auntie to see my grandpa." The little boy smiled happily and then led Wenxi into the village.

Soon they arrived at the outside of a courtyard surrounded by an earthen wall. The little boy ran inside, excitedly shouting, "Grandpa, Grandpa, an auntie is coming to see you!"

Then an elderly couple came out; they were probably the child's grandparents. The grandfather looked Wenxi up and down, while the grandmother scrutinized her.

"Hello, are you the village head or the brigade leader of this village?" Wen Xi asked as she stepped forward.

"I'm the captain. What brings you here, young lady?" the captain asked curiously.

"Captain, I've come to your team to purchase supplies. I want vegetables, chickens, ducks, eggs, duck eggs, mushrooms, wild vegetables, snails, eels, loaches, and crayfish from the rice paddies. Could you please help me arrange this?" Wen Xi took out a bag of White Rabbit milk candy from her luggage bag and handed it to the little boy who had just led the way for her.

When the child's grandmother saw that Wen Xi had come to purchase supplies, she relaxed her guard and hurriedly said, "Comrade, it's a good thing for our team that you've come to purchase supplies. How can we accept your things? They're too valuable. Please take them back!"

"Auntie, if you don't accept it, I'll go find the next production team!" Wenxi threatened.

The brigade leader's wife had no choice but to let her grandson accept the White Rabbit milk candy. It was really too precious—a whole bag of White Rabbit milk candy! They would only buy one or two for their child occasionally; they couldn't bear to buy so many.

The captain said to his wife, "You arrange for this comrade to rest. I'll go and arrange a meeting so everyone can get things done quickly and not delay the comrade's important business."

Wen Xi smiled and said, "Thank you, Captain. But I'll be here for the next few days, so don't worry, everyone's health is the priority. By the way, crayfish and eels are easier to catch after dark."

Wenxi was afraid that the brigade leader wouldn't know what crayfish were. After all, crayfish weren't called that at this time; they were called something like insects. So, Wenxi, using the luggage bag as a cover, took out a few fresh crayfish and asked the brigade leader to take them out and show everyone what they looked like.

After the brigade leader left, his wife took Wenxi to her home to rest and made her a cup of tea. Wenxi smiled and said, "Thank you, Auntie."

Watching the little boy peel a White Rabbit candy and put it in his mouth, Wen Xi smiled and asked, "Is it sweet?"

The little boy nodded excitedly, "Sweet."

"Then take me around the village for a bit, and I'll give you a bag of White Rabbit milk candy when I leave, okay?" Wen Xi said.

Otherwise, it would be quite boring to sit at his house until evening; she simply couldn't sit still.

"No need to give us any more, this bag is enough to last us a long time," said the team leader's wife.

After that, the little boy took Wenxi for a walk around the village. The little boy was very talkative. He explained things to Wenxi as he walked around, telling her what happened in each family, so that Wenxi, an outsider, could have some understanding of the people and things in the village.

As she walked, Wenxi stopped because she saw a familiar face—the person who had bullied her at the educated youth settlement in her previous life. She hadn't expected that her group of educated youth hadn't gone to the Harvest Brigade but had been assigned to this place instead. Now it seemed that every place she had been to had a reason.

Without the little boy explaining anything to her, Wenxi knew she was a sent-down youth. Afterwards, the little boy led Wenxi to the vicinity of the clinic, and Wenxi asked curiously, "Why are there so many people here? And they are all women."

Before the little boy could answer, Wenxi saw a man come out of the clinic.

She froze on the spot.

Because that person was He Chen'an, whom I hadn't seen for over a year. I never expected that he would come to this place again to provide medical support.
