◎Bride◎
Mu and Qing loosened Li Shi's collar. He was quite tall, and it was a bit tiring for her to hold onto his collar like that and have to stand on tiptoe.
She didn't believe what Li Shi said. It was like a financial product seller telling you they have exclusive benefits, a real estate agent telling you they have exclusive prices, or a livestreamer telling you they have special prices for family members. In the end, their goal is still to make money off you.
Oh right, Li Shi must be the one who wants to get rid of her and her whole family.
Imagine a normal family dinner, and suddenly a completely different face appears, talking about completely different things, everyone is just scared, and no one is paying attention to the food. What's the point?
Just thinking about that scene gave Mu and Qingji goosebumps.
Fortunately, she remained resolute and was not swayed by Li Shi.
However, a thought flashed through her mind: if she agreed to Li Shi's request, wouldn't such a large estate be hers? Wouldn't she then be able to quit her job the day after tomorrow?
Now, Mu Heqing may not be able to deal with her so-called high school classmates as easily as she did seven years ago.
Mu Heqing said to Uncle Li, "Tell me where that girl is, or I'll agree to Li Shi's request!"
Li Shi knew that Mu Heqing wouldn't agree anytime soon, so he said, "Tell her."
Uncle Li and his tall wife Yijuan remained silent, perhaps secretly saddened that Li Shi hadn't given them the internal discount price.
“I know, I’ll take you there,” Li Yu said softly.
"Just stay here, a hundred years have already passed," Mu Heqing advised.
Li Shi should stay here and cause trouble for this family, but not for her.
“It’s meaningless, Qing,” Li Shi said. “This family can’t continue just because I die and am reborn. If it wants to continue, one person has to die.”
"What do you mean?" This was Mu Heqing asking on behalf of Uncle Li.
Mu Heqing realized that she was still kind. She was relieved that she hadn't become agitated because of the Li family's bad attitude towards her. That was really good.
She is still the gentle and kind Mu Heqing in her heart.
"There are currently five people in this family: grandfather, grandmother, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. If I want to enter again, one person must die, and after a few years, another person must die, until everyone dies."
"But aren't you still in this family? Shouldn't there be six of you?" Mu Heqing asked, puzzled.
"Yes, it's a state, a state of being unable to move forward. Why do I need to keep dying and being born? My birth means that this family is moving forward."
Mu Heqing asked, "So, we can maintain the status quo for now, but what if another child is born?"
“One of those five will die, and the family as a whole will remain the same until, after a few years, there are only four or three people left in the family, and then they all die. The family has reached its decline.” Li Shi didn’t care. Since he existed, he had witnessed the disappearance of many families, and this was just one of them.
"No wonder, my father and mother are both dead." Uncle Li learned the truth for the first time, and a glimmer of hope suddenly rekindled in him. "Didn't you say that we could obtain the greatest value with the least cost?"
Li Shi remained silent.
Mu and Qing had a headache and repeated, "Didn't you say that we could get the greatest value with the least cost?"
Li Shi gave an expression that suggested this was a perk only Mu and Qing could enjoy, saying, "Heqing, of course this is only for you. How can anyone else get it? Besides, I've looked into this, and it requires someone's help."
"Who?" Mu Heqing couldn't help but feel disgusted; she didn't want this kind of benefit.
“The principal. Oh! I know.” Li Shi suddenly realized, “I know who helped you conceal your presence, it was the principal, right? There could be no one else but him.”
"Who is the principal?" Uncle Li asked, but no one at the scene paid any attention.
Mu Heqing turned to Li Yu and said, "Please take me to the bride."
Li Yu left with Mu and Qing, and Li Shi naturally followed. He kept talking: "I should have thought of this earlier. Only the principal has this ability. He pulled you into his net, and I won't be able to find you unless I meet with you."
Mu and Qing followed Li Yu, pretending not to hear what Li Shi said.
Li Shi continued, "However, he can't hide you from me now. We've met, and his network has failed."
Li Yu whispered, "This is the first time I've seen Shi talk so much."
Enough! What's the difference between this and the young master smiling? Mu Heqing screamed inwardly, her fingers twitching uncontrollably again.
But she maintained a blank expression; as long as she didn't make any expressions, she remained herself.
"It's in that room." Li Yu pointed to a door. "The girl seems to have fainted."
Mu and Qing opened the door without hesitation.
Li Yu asked, "You didn't actually want to come here, did you?"
Mu Heqing turned his head, waiting for Li Yu to say the next thing.
Li Yu lowered her head: "Then why did you come here? Just for a girl you don't know?"
Mu and Qing had to come and see. Even if it was a trap set for her, she had to come, otherwise she wouldn't be able to sleep at night.
It's possible that the person who later added the bride's name to the invitation took advantage of this psychology of hers.
Mu Heqing's hand was still on the doorknob. She lowered her head and said softly, "The deeper you get involved with them, the deeper you get trapped. I just don't want there to be another person like me in the world, with a nightmare that I can never escape."
Li Shi, one of the sources of the "nightmare," pointed to himself, saying, "I'm definitely not in it; it's all their fault."
Li Yu remained silent. Li Shi had entered his world the moment he was born.
He had no choice, he couldn't escape it, he could only accept it.
Mu and Qing entered the room, where there was a large bed and a girl with a rosy complexion was lying on it.
She approached the large bed and gently patted the girl's face. "Wake up! Wake up! Bao Yuxin?"
Mu and Qing learned the girl's name from the second invitation.
Bao Yuxin opened her eyes groggily and saw someone gently patting her, as if calling her to wake up.
"Do you remember what happened?" Mu Heqing asked.
Bao Yuxin only has a little memory: "I just remember that a very handsome person asked me what my wish was, and he said he could trade with me. I said I wanted a lottery ticket that could win a million dollars, and he said that was fine."
Mu Heqing couldn't help but say, "This sounds like a lie."
“Yes, that’s right.” Bao Yu said confidently, “I also thought it was a lie. How could it just appear out of nowhere? After that, I don’t remember anything.”
"Then you didn't receive that lottery ticket, did you?" Mu Heqing asked cautiously. If she had, she would be truly doomed.
"No, how could that be?" Bao Yuxin sat up. She saw Li Shi's face and said, "Ah, it's that person, the one I was talking about who's really good-looking. Strange, why am I so dizzy?"
She went back down again.
"Why has she fainted again?" Mu Heqing stood in front of the bed, watching Bao Yuxin fall into a coma once more.
Li Shi shrugged and waved his hand innocently.
"Does everyone who sees you faint? Why doesn't he?" Mu Heqing pointed at Li Yu.
“Strictly speaking, he is my younger brother.” Li Shi finally remembered that he and Li Yu were related by blood.
"Is it because her deal with you wasn't completed?"
Li Shi's smile was mysterious, and Mu and Qing immediately lost the desire to ask any further questions.
Li Yu whispered, "I think it's very possible. They do have that ability."
“She’s just confused,” Li Shi explained.
"Send her back, and everything will be normal, right? Li Shi, just pretend the deal never happened. Anyway, you didn't actually give her a lottery ticket that could win a million." Mu Heqing sat on the edge of the bed, looking at Bao Yuxin who was sleeping soundly.
Li Shi nodded. There was no need for him to do anything that would upset Mu Heqing if there was no profit to be made. He glanced at Li Yu.
Li Yu immediately agreed, saying, "I will send someone to take her home, and she will receive compensation for these days in a reasonable way."
Relieved by the reply, Mu Heqing checked the time on her phone; it was already 1 a.m.
"I'm going back too." Mu Heqing asked Li Yu to send someone to escort her out of the manor. This place was like a maze, and she couldn't get out by herself.
Li Shi volunteered to escort Mu and Qing away.
Before leaving, Mu and Qing asked Li Yu a question.
"How many invitations did you send me?"
"Just one? What's wrong?" Li Yu asked, puzzled.
"Is the bride's name on the invitation?"
“We were in such a rush that we didn’t have time to find out the girl’s name. We just wrote down Shi’s name and sent it. Shi said that you would come over once you saw his name.” Li Yu glanced at Li Shi carefully.
Mu and Qing didn't come because of Li Shi, but because of Bao Yuxin, whom they didn't know.
Who exactly found out Bao Yuxin's name, made a new invitation, and had Cai deliver it to her?
Mu and Qing did not think it was Cai because Cai, like Li Shi, had a very high opinion of herself.
She couldn't guess who it could be, but she knew it must be related to her old classmates.
This person was able to send out invitations and find her within the principal's network.
What is this person's purpose?
Mu and Qing had a feeling that a storm was brewing.
Li Shi led Mu and Qing out of the manor, but after a few hours inside, she felt as if she had been in another world.
In the pitch-black night, with no moon in sight, Li Shi stood before the heavy, intricate iron gate, his exquisite face resembling that of a vampire from a novel.
Stepping out of that door, Mu and Qing finally felt like they had returned to the real world.
Mu and Qing instructed: "Don't contact me unless it's important, understand? If you need to talk, contact me in advance. Don't show up suddenly. I'm timid and you might scare me to death."
Li Shi remained silent, seemingly pondering what Mu and Qing had said.
Mu Heqing knew that Li Shi wouldn't listen to her at all, so she said, "Don't come to me if you need anything, don't ever come to me again in this lifetime!"
She decided to cut herself off completely and return to her daily life.
Li Shi looked puzzled and asked, "What is 'chatting freely'?"
Mu Heqing covered his forehead and asked the crucial question: "Do you have a cell phone?"
Li Shi shook his head.
Mu and Qing almost forgot that this guy was from a different world than her, and his exposure to modern technology was probably limited to issuing orders to the Li family via walkie-talkie.
Li Shi was a primitive man.
