Chapter 43 Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland 6

Chapter 43 Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland 6

Morgue.

At any time, these three words represent misfortune and the end.

But at this moment, it became the only way out in Zhou Jue's eyes.

“We can’t go back to Building A.” Zhou Jue’s voice was terrifyingly calm: “The zombie horde has blocked all the upward passages. Our only way to survive is down below.”

"Down...down there?" Wang Yong's voice trembled slightly. "Boss, you mean...the morgue?"

"Hospital morgues are usually connected to dedicated underground morgue transport tunnels and parking lots."

Zhou Jue quickly pulled up the architectural blueprints in his mind and reconstructed the route: "That's our only chance to escape this building."

The survivors looked at each other, their faces filled with fear.

Go to the morgue? That place was terrifying even before the apocalypse, let alone now. Who knows how many "old friends" are hiding there?

"I don't have time to ask for your opinions." Zhou Jue's tone left no room for argument: "Those who want to live, follow me. Those who want to stay here and feed the zombies, do as you please."

After saying that, she ignored everyone and turned to walk in the direction of the sign.

The instinct for survival ultimately triumphed over the fear of the unknown. Wang Yong gritted his teeth and was the first to follow. The others hesitated for a few seconds, then could only follow with long faces and trembling bodies.

The path leading underground was dark and damp.

In addition to the smells of blood and decay, there was also a strong odor of formaldehyde in the air.

As they continued downwards, Zhou Jue dealt with a few scattered zombies before they finally arrived at a heavy double iron door.

The three characters "morgue" on the door were blurred by dark red bloodstains.

Zhou Jue did not open the door rashly. Instead, he took out a miniature fiber optic endoscope from his tactical backpack and carefully peered through the crack in the door.

Behind the door was a huge morgue.

Rows of stainless steel morgue cabinets stood neatly arranged, most of their doors open and empty. White sheets and medical equipment were scattered on the floor, but surprisingly, there was no scene of zombies roaming the area as one might expect.

Only a handful of zombies dressed in hospital gowns wandered aimlessly among the morgue cabinets.

"Prepare for battle," Zhou Jue said in a low voice, then gently pushed open the iron gate!

Even though it was very quiet, the creaking of the door still attracted the attention of all the zombies in the morgue.

They all turned their heads in unison, letting out low growls, and charged towards the door.

Zhou Jue stepped forward with the Boundary-Breaking Shovel, its sharp blade slicing into the zombie's head as easily as cutting a watermelon.

After a few muffled thuds, there wasn't a single zombie left standing in the morgue.

"It's all cleaned up." Zhou Jue shook the blood off his shovel and turned his gaze to the other end of the morgue.

There, there is a freight elevator leading further down and a sloping ramp.

"Take the ramp; you can't take the elevator."

The group passed through the morgue and stepped onto the ramp leading to the underground parking lot.

The further down you go, the dimmer the light becomes.

When they arrived at the underground parking lot on the second basement level, it was pitch black.

Zhou Jue activated the helmet's wide-angle night vision mode, and the entire parking lot instantly became clearly visible.

This place, too, is a scene of utter chaos.

wrecked cars, scattered debris, and... a large number of zombies.

The zombie density here far exceeds that upstairs. A quick glance reveals at least a hundred. They seem trapped in this enclosed space, wandering aimlessly.

She was confident she could cross the parking lot by herself, but there was a group of survivors here.

"Brother Tong, is there any way for us to get through this parking lot?"

[The host can consume energy to purchase zombie perfume from the points shop. Spraying it on the body will temporarily make zombies mistake you for one of their own, reducing the probability of being tracked.]

"purchase!"

The system stored the zombie perfume into a new Starry Casket. Zhou Jue reached into his pocket and took it out of the Starry Casket.

It's a tiny bottle, it doesn't even look like it contains 50ml.

Ignoring the strange looks from the crowd, he sprayed himself from head to toe first.

It smells terrible.

“There are many zombies in the parking lot. This is the zombie blood I collected before. Spray it on everyone to confuse the zombies for a short time.”

After saying that, he handed the remaining perfume to Wang Yong. Without saying a word, Wang Yong sprayed himself with it. The others did not question or cause trouble, and all obediently sprayed it on as well.

Just kidding. Everyone with eyes can see the strength of the leader along the way. The eight survivors now just want to cling to Zhou Jue's coattails.

"The parking lot is dark, so stay close to me and don't get lost."

After speaking, Zhou Jue had everyone hold hands, and then had another girl who had strictly followed the instructions from beginning to end put her hand on his shoulder, with Wang Yong at the back.

Zhou Jue stepped into the parking lot first, and everyone behind him followed closely without saying a word.

Zhou Jue activated thermal imaging mode to try and avoid the zombies' movements.

Even though the footsteps were quiet, they still attracted some zombies. Scattered zombies gathered around the source of the sound, sniffing around.

They're the same kind!

Although the zombie didn't rush up to bite, it didn't leave either, lingering around Zhou Jue and his group. Although Zhou Jue felt a little nauseous, he could still bear it.

The others weren't so lucky. The pitch-black environment was already amplifying their fear, and now, with the "hoarse" sounds around them and the occasional close face-to-face contact, it felt like screams were right at their throats.

But no one dared to make a sound.

With eyes closed, holding your breath, brainwashing yourself...

Driven by an unprecedented will to survive, they followed closely behind the person in front of them.

The group moved slowly through the darkness like a sharp knife.

They quickly passed through the dark passage, and the light from the exit ahead illuminated the zombies following them.

Zhou Jue stopped, took out an alarm clock from his pocket (in the Starry Sky Box), set it for one minute, and then threw it forcefully behind him.

The sound of the alarm clock hitting the ground attracted some zombies. Soon after, the alarm clock rang, and in the silent underground parking lot, the sound was exceptionally clear, causing all the zombies around to run towards the alarm clock.

"Now! Run!"

A group of nine people, led by Zhou Jue, ran against the flow of the zombie horde.

Just as they were about to rush to the exit ramp at the other end of the parking lot, Zhou Jue's gaze was suddenly drawn to a heavy alloy door that seemed out of place with its surroundings.

The door was tightly closed, and a huge logo was painted on it in red paint.

Below the logo, there is a line of eye-catching small print.

【B4-LEVEL BIOLOGICAL ISOLATION ZONE】

Zhou Jue's heart skipped a beat.

Shelter.

A perfect, ready-made, top-security shelter!

"Plan changed!" Zhou Jue suddenly stopped, pointed at the door, and said to the panting crowd behind him.

"We've arrived at our new home."
