Chapter 207 I Went Mad During the Republic of China (23 chapters)
The pain in Commander Yang's eyes was almost overflowing.
"I'll go find them right now."
"I want to see him alive or dead." After saying this, Zhou Jue turned around and left, his figure quickly disappearing into the mountains and forests.
Commander Yang looked in the direction she left, opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing. He simply raised his hand again and gave a standard military salute.
"Brother Tongzi, scan for unknown Anti-Japanese Allied Forces and send them out one by one according to their urgency."
[Received, scanning... Seventh Army location located, initiating teleportation!]
The Seventh Army's camp was hidden in a more secluded valley, with fewer sentries around it than the First Army. The sentries leaned against tree trunks, their faces pale and thin, too weak to even stand up straight.
The entire camp was deathly still.
Zhou Jue concealed himself and silently drifted into the camp.
A stench of blood, decay, and despair assaulted my senses.
Suppressed groans could be heard coming from the tents of the wounded soldiers' camp.
A young soldier with a broken leg lay on a haystack, his wound blackened and oozing pus. He was biting down hard on a tattered cloth, veins bulging on his forehead, his body convulsing from the excruciating pain.
The soldier next to him wanted to help, but could only pat him helplessly on the shoulder.
"Commander Li, we can't wait any longer!" A man, equally emaciated, rushed into the command tent. His eyes were red and his voice was hoarse: "If we wait any longer, the brothers will either starve to death or die from the pain!"
Inside the tent, the man known as Commander Li was staring blankly at a small clump of moldy millet, the last bit of rations for the entire army.
He raised his head, his bloodshot eyes filled with pain.
"Political Commissar, what do you think we should do?" Commander Wang's voice was hoarse. "Break through? How can we break through in our current state? What can we use to fight the Japanese machine guns and artillery?"
"We'd rather die than suffocate here!" The political commissar slammed his fist on the table, which shook and almost fell apart.
"The two teams I sent out yesterday to look for grain haven't returned yet. I'm afraid they're already..."
Commander Wang couldn't continue speaking; he covered his face, and his shoulders began to tremble violently.
Outside the tent, Zhou Jue listened to their conversation, his [Mind Voice] ability instantly sweeping across the entire camp.
"Commander, I don't want to die... I haven't even gotten married yet..."
Mother, your unfilial son may never be able to come back...
[It hurts...it hurts so much...someone shoot me...]
Despair spread like a plague.
Fortunately, there were no voices of rebellion. After confirming the situation, Zhou Jue did not go out to meet with the army commander again. Instead, he left the camp and came to a clearing in the woods next to him.
A thought struck her.
"Splash—"
The rice bags that appeared out of nowhere instantly piled up into a small mountain. One bag tore open, and the snow-white rice spilled all over the ground.
Immediately afterwards, bundles of cured meat, boxes of canned goods, and large bags of flour and salt filled half the open space.
On the other side were neatly stacked wooden crates.
First-aid kit, weapon kit, ammunition kit.
After doing all this, Zhou Jue disappeared from the spot; she had another place to go.
"Water...water..."
A sentry responsible for fetching water carried two empty water bags and swayed as he walked toward the stream.
He hadn't eaten for two days, and he was so hungry that he was seeing stars and was staggering when he walked.
Suddenly, a rich aroma of meat wafted into his nostrils.
He took a deep breath, thinking he was hallucinating from hunger, but the aroma grew stronger and stronger, mixed with the fragrance of grain. He followed the scent and parted the bushes in front of him.
The next second, he froze completely.
What did he see?
Mountain!
A mountain of rice, a mountain of meat, and boxes piled up like a wall!
The sentry rubbed his eyes hard and then pinched his thigh hard.
"Aww!"
The excruciating pain returned, but the scene before my eyes did not disappear.
"Oh my god!"
He yelled, threw away the water pouch, and scrambled back to the camp.
"Help! Help!"
He ran and howled, his voice distorted.
Inside the camp, Commander Li and the political commissar were discussing their final breakout plan when they heard the howling and wailing outside. They exchanged a glance and immediately rushed out.
"What happened?" Commander Li grabbed the sentry.
The sentry was out of breath, pointing towards the mountains and forests, unable to speak clearly.
"The mountain...the mountain god...the mountain god has appeared!"
"They've brought...the grain! Lots and lots of grain and meat!"
Commander Li was stunned. He thought the soldier had gone mad from hunger and was talking nonsense.
"What nonsense are you spouting!" the political commissar shouted, frowning.
"Really! Commander! Political Commissar! Come and see! It's piled up as high as a mountain!" The sentry was so anxious he was almost crying.
Seeing that he didn't seem to be lying, Commander Li's heart skipped a beat, and he drew his gun: "Let's go! Let's go check it out!"
A group of people followed the sentry, running towards the open space, their feet sinking into the mud.
When they parted the last clump of bushes, everyone stopped.
The air fell silent instantly.
Everyone stared wide-eyed and gaped, their eyes glued to the dreamlike scene before them.
"Gulp."
Someone swallowed hard.
"Am I...am I dreaming?" a soldier murmured to himself.
Commander Li walked forward step by step. He reached the mountain of rice, stretched out his trembling hand, and grabbed a handful of snow-white rice.
The texture of the rice felt so real.
He brought the rice to his nose, inhaling its unique fragrance.
Then, he stuffed a handful of rice into his mouth and chewed it vigorously.
"It's true...it's true..."
He murmured to himself, and tears streamed down his face without warning.
The next moment, this tough man knelt down with a thud and burst into tears in front of the mountain of supplies.
"We're saved! Brothers! We're saved! We won't die!"
His crying was like a signal.
All the soldiers reacted instantly, letting out a deafening cheer and rushing towards the supplies like madmen.
Some people cried and laughed while clutching bags of rice, some tore open cans and stuffed food into their mouths, and some rushed to the medicine box, shouting, "Medicine is here! The wounded can be saved!"
The entire valley instantly transformed from deathly silence into a sea of revelry.
The political commissar looked at everything before him and couldn't help but tear up. He walked over to Commander Li and patted him on the shoulder.
"Old Li, what... what kind of deity is helping us?"
Commander Li shook his head, stood up, wiped the tears from his face, and glanced at the brand-new weapon crates.
"No matter who it is, our Seventh Army will remember this kindness!"
He turned around and roared at all the soldiers: "Pass on my order! Set up cooking pots and cook! Make sure all the brothers have a full meal!"
"We've eaten our fill! We have the strength now! To hell with breaking out! Let's give those Japanese devils a good fight!"
Then, the same miracles continued to unfold in the deep mountains and forests of Northeast China.
Second Army, Ninth Army, Fifth Army...
Every anti-Japanese guerrilla force on the verge of despair received this "miracle" that fell from the sky at its most desperate moment.
The flame of resistance against Japan was reignited overnight throughout Northeast China, and it burned brighter than ever before.
Meanwhile, at the Kwantung Army Headquarters.
The atmosphere was terribly oppressive.
An officer was holding a telegram, his hands trembling.
"Reporting to the Commander! The Third Regiment stationed outside the Fengtian Arsenal has been out of contact for more than 24 hours!"
"Report! The bacterial testing base in Pingfang District... has been burned to the ground. All research data and Imperial warriors perished!"
"Report! According to intelligence, the remnants of the Anti-Japanese Allied Forces, who were originally pinned down and on the verge of being wiped out in various parts of Changbai Mountain, have recently become more active, and their firepower... has been greatly increased!"
Each report was like a heavy hammer blow to the hearts of all the Japanese officers present.
In the operations conference room, the face of Kenkichi Ueda, Commander-in-Chief of the Kwantung Army, was so gloomy it seemed like water could drip from it.
A bespectacled major general with a sinister air walked up to the map. His name was Kanji Ishihara, and he was an operations staff officer in the Kwantung Army.
He used a red pen to draw several circles on the map around Fengtian, Pingfang District of Harbin, and the hinterland of Changbai Mountain.
"Commander, gentlemen," Ishihara Kanji's voice was icy, "an arsenal, a top-secret testing base, and material aid covering almost the entire Northeast."
"This is by no means a coincidence, nor could it be done by a mob."
His gaze swept over everyone present.
“An enemy that we do not yet understand has emerged within our own borders, or rather, on this land.”
He picked up another pen and drew lines connecting the circles.
"He, or they, possess power beyond our comprehension; they can silently empty an arsenal and pinpoint the exact location of all our troops."
Kenkichi Ueda slammed his fist on the table: "Baka! Investigate! Investigate! I need to know who this person and this group are! Are they men or women! Are they human or demons!"
Ishihara Kanji adjusted his glasses, his eyes flashing with a mad light.
"Commander, it's pointless to investigate individuals now."
He pointed to the map, his voice chilling.
"I suggest we immediately launch 'Operation Cage,' sealing off all major transportation routes, cities, and ports throughout the Northeast! Conduct the most thorough search! Not even a fly should be able to escape!"
"I'm going to trap him here and kill him! No matter who he is, I'll make sure he can't escape!"
