Chapter 248 I Pick Up Trash on the Battlefield of National Destiny 4
Zhou Jue pushed the cart, turned around without hesitation, and walked towards the green safety point marked on the map.
As a "qualified" NPC, she had no reason to disobey the instructions of the national destiny system.
Moreover, she genuinely wanted to observe up close what the "players" of this world were really like.
The roller shutter door at the entrance to the underground parking lot was half destroyed, revealing a gap just wide enough for one person to bend down and pass through. Zhou Jue pushed the cart and ducked inside.
Inside, it was pitch black, and the air was filled with a musty smell mixed with dust and other unpleasant odors. She parked the car in an inconspicuous corner and stood beside it like a statue, her eyes vacant, perfectly playing the role of an NPC "on standby".
At the same time, her divine sense spread out, silently enveloping the entire area.
Outside, a chase is unfolding.
The player's weapon continuously spewed out blue energy beams, bombarding the monsters that were relentlessly pursuing them.
It was a gigantic monster over five meters tall, resembling a skinned bear, with well-developed muscles all over its body and something like lava flowing on its skin.
It ignored the energy beams, letting the attacks hit it, only causing a few sparks to fly.
"Captain! We can't hold on much longer!" a rough male voice roared, tinged with anxiety.
The man called the captain was the calmest of the five. As he ran, he turned back and shouted, "Use 'Gravity Trap'! Hold it back! Run!"
As soon as he finished speaking, one of the team members suddenly stopped, pulled a metal disc from his waist, and slammed it hard on the ground.
Buzz!
An invisible force field instantly spread out from the center of the disc. The bear-like monster rushed into the range of the force field, its body suddenly sank, and its speed suddenly slowed down.
"Retreat! Retreat to that parking lot entrance! Quick!" The captain spotted a parking lot entrance and immediately called out to his teammates.
Footsteps, panting, and the monster's roar approached rapidly from afar.
Soon, five figures scrambled through the crack in the entrance. The last one, a burly man, immediately turned around, raised a cracked energy shield, and braced it against the entrance.
"boom!"
With a loud bang, the burly man groaned as he was slammed backward by a tremendous force. The energy shield on his arm flickered twice before completely extinguishing, turning into pieces of debris.
Zhou Jue's glasses immediately displayed: [Detected 'Player Relic - Intermediate Energy Shield Fragment', Quality: Damaged. Recyclable Points: 8.]
"Damn it, it's broken!" the burly man cursed, pulling a knife from behind his back and staring fiercely outside.
This five-person team, consisting of three men and two women, was covered in dust and blood. The leader was a man in his thirties with a resolute face. He quickly glanced around the parking lot, and when he saw the gray figure pushing a cart in the corner, his pupils suddenly contracted.
"There's one more!" He immediately raised the gun in his hand and aimed it at Zhou Jue.
The other team members reacted instantly, pointing their weapons at the suddenly appearing "monster".
The atmosphere in the parking lot suddenly plummeted to freezing point.
The five men's hearts sank. With pursuers in front and ambushes behind, it seemed they were doomed to perish here today.
However, a few seconds passed, and the dusty "monster" in the corner remained motionless, neither attacking nor making any sound, simply standing there quietly, as if they were air.
"Captain...it seems...not responding?" a short-haired girl wearing glasses whispered, her voice filled with uncertainty.
The leader, named Lin Feng, remained vigilant, but his doubts grew deeper.
He carefully observed Zhou Jue, from her strange jumpsuit to the simple trolley next to her, and the metal spray can on the trolley that looked like an insecticide.
Outside, the monster's roar rang out again, its massive body squeezing through the crack in the entrance, its scarlet eyes gleaming with a bloodthirsty light in the darkness.
"It's coming in!" a burly man in the group growled, gripping his sword tightly.
"Forget about this monster for now, focus on dealing with the monsters outside," another female team member said calmly, then grabbed her weapon and charged towards the monsters at the entrance.
There's no time left! The others quickly stepped forward as well.
Team leader Lin Feng's gaze, however, was fixed on the spray can on Zhou Jue's cart.
He didn't know what it was, but he remembered that in previous messages someone had mentioned that some NPCs would use a special "purifying agent" to deal with pollutants.
Could this motionless gray figure in front of me be one of these NPCs?
This is a crazy gamble. If they lose, they will be attacked from both sides and die a gruesome death. If they win, there may be a glimmer of hope for survival.
A resolute glint flashed in Lin Feng's eyes. Without further hesitation, he gestured to the team members behind him, signaling them to hold on, and then suddenly took a step forward and rushed towards Zhou Jue!
His teammates, while fighting off the monsters outside, kept glancing at their captain out of the corner of their eyes, their hearts pounding in their throats.
However, to everyone's surprise, even after Lin Feng rushed to the car, the gray figure remained unresponsive, as if he hadn't seen him at all.
Lin Feng grabbed the metal spray bottle from the car, glanced at it, and sure enough, the bottle had the words "purifier" on it. Without thinking twice, he turned around and aimed it at the monster at the entrance.
"Get out of the way!"
"laugh--!"
He pressed the nozzle.
A plume of white mist shot out, instantly enveloping the monster.
What happened next left the entire squad wide-eyed.
The monster that had just chased them so fiercely, even shattering their energy shield, instantly dissolved and crumbled upon contact with the white mist, as if it had been splashed with sulfuric acid. Its body emitted white smoke at a visible speed.
In just three seconds, the ferocious monster became completely still.
The parking lot fell into a deathly silence. Everyone stared in disbelief at the spray can in Lin Feng's hand, then at the prop that had fallen to the ground after the monster was defeated, their faces filled with shock.
"Holy crap?" The burly man stammered for a long time before finally managing to utter two words: "What... what kind of magical artifact is this?"
The crisis was resolved just like that?
One of them stepped forward and picked up the item: "Captain, it's an A-grade attack item."
Lin Feng let out a long sigh of relief, feeling his back soaked in cold sweat. He looked down at the spray can in his hand, then looked up at the gray figure that remained motionless, seemingly lost in thought, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
We're saved.
They were saved by a "monster" whose identity was unknown—whether friend or foe—in a way they had never seen before.
