Chapter 312 Dad, I was wrong

Chapter 312 Dad, I was wrong

Inside the submersible, silence returned.

Where Zhou Jue disappeared, a faint, almost imperceptible spatial fluctuation remained in the air before quickly vanishing.

Sun Jiuchou stood there, the helpless yet gentle expression on his face slowly fading away.

He looked down at the palm of his left hand.

There, a tiny robot, no bigger than the palm of your hand, was struggling frantically.

【Aaaaaah! Host~!】

【Aaaaaah! Let me go!】

The system attempted to release electric arcs, attempt spatial jumps, and even try to deploy a miniature energy shield.

But all resistance vanished without a trace when it touched the invisible membrane in Sun Jiuchou's palm.

[Buzz...Warning! Unknown privileges detected! Requesting highest authority...Buzz...Connection to host failed!]

[WARNING! Core database locked! Attempting to restart... Restart failed!]

The sharp and chaotic electronic sounds rang futilely in Sun Jiuche's palm.

Sun Jiuchou watched it leisurely, as if he were observing a cricket jumping around.

He even stretched out his right index finger and gently poked the little thing's head.

"Alright, stop wasting your energy."

His voice carried a hint of lazy laughter.

Didn't you call him "Dad" so affectionately before?

"What, now that Dad's really here, you don't recognize him?"

The little robot in my palm froze abruptly, its struggling movements halting for a moment.

It raised its head, turned to Sun Jiuchou, and emitted an electronic voice filled with confusion and vigilance.

Who are you?! You're not Sun Jiuchou, are you?!

[And yet, when my host suspected you, I even spoke up for you, saying you were a good person!]

You actually separated me from my host!

[Where did you send my host?!]

Release me immediately! Otherwise, I will initiate the self-destruct sequence!

"Let's die together!" the system threatened.

"Self-destruction?"

Sun Jiuchou laughed out loud, as if he had heard the funniest joke in the world.

"Try destroying one and see what happens."

"Let's see if we die together, or if you commit suicide."

As he spoke, he slowly raised his right hand, which had been resting on Zhou Jue's shoulder, his fingertips revealing a faint trace of life.

The little robot in the palm of the hand seemed to have all its power cut off the moment it came into contact with this aura.

All its struggles, all its warnings, all its threats, came to an abrupt end at this moment.

The little robot stood frozen in place, motionless.

Sun Jiuchou withdrew that aura, opened his palm, and waited quietly.

A few seconds later, the stiff little robot suddenly moved.

It stopped struggling and stopped shouting.

It carefully floated up from Sun Jiuchou's palm, like a startled little bird, and slowly, tentatively, flew to Sun Jiuchou's shoulder.

Then, it gently and affectionately rubbed its metal head against Sun Jiuchou's cheek.

A completely different electronic synthesized voice, filled with obsequiousness and sycophancy, rang out.

【dad! 】

Oh my dear dad!

[Dad, I was wrong! I was really wrong!]

【I didn't expect it to be you! Why didn't you give me a heads-up? I... I didn't recognize you!】

The system's voice was choked with sobs.

[Look at this crappy system of mine! It's all because my level is too low; it can't even recognize your aura. I deserve a beating! Hit me!]

As it spoke, it gently patted its head with its small mechanical arm, making a "bang bang" sound.

Sun Jiuchou was amused by its appearance. He stretched out his fingers, lifted it off his shoulder, and placed it in front of him.

"Alright, stop acting."

[Dad, how could I dare to act like this! I truly deserve to die! But now that I have a host, I can't die so easily.]

Seeing that he wasn't really angry, the system grew bolder and immediately started to act cute.

[Dad, why did you separate me from my host? We've never been separated before. My host is timid and has no sense of direction. She'll definitely worry about being out alone! She'll get lost!]

Without me, she's afraid to sleep at night!

"How about... how about you just take me there?"

[Waaaaah, Daddy, I've never been separated from my host, please have pity on me~]

[The little system without a host is like a child without a mother; it's so pitiful.]

"Little cabbage, yellow in the field~~" the system sang self-pityingly.

It hovered in mid-air, its two short legs dangling back and forth, its tone as pitiful as could be.

Sun Jiuchou looked at it and shook his head.

"No, she's too weak. We need to improve her strength, especially her combat skills."

He paused, then added.

"The same to you."

The system's mechanical legs instantly stopped moving.

"It has a lot of functions, but it's all flashy and impractical."

Sun Jiuchou's tone was calm, yet it struck the system like a heavy hammer: "When faced with something truly difficult, what can you do besides telling her to run?"

"Also, she's too dependent on you. She's cultivated to the Nascent Soul stage, but she doesn't act like a Nascent Soul cultivator at all. She's practically a hothouse flower bud!"

"And you! After all this time, you're only at level two! You're so unambitious!"

"I..." The system froze; it wanted to refute, but couldn't utter a single word.

[Dad, I...I'll change from now on! I'll try my best to improve! Please give me another chance!]

[If all else fails, next time I travel with my host, I'll focus solely on leveling up! Leveling up diligently! Leveling up double!]

“Opportunities are something you have to fight for yourself. There’s no need for a next time, let’s do it this time!” Sun Jiuchou said, snapping his fingers.

With a "snap".

The little robot let out a short, shrill electronic wail.

[Daddy~~!!]

Immediately afterwards, like a glass bead that had been flung away, it was directly ejected into a tiny spatial rift that appeared out of nowhere.

"Why don't you go and exercise too?"

Sun Jiuchou's voice drifted on before it disappeared.

"Stop thinking about lying flat all the time."

The spatial rift closed instantly, as if it had never existed.

Now, Sun Jiuchou is truly the only one left in the entire submersible.

He slowly straightened his collar, which had been rubbed askew by the system, put his glasses back on, and resumed his refined and scholarly demeanor.

He walked to the control panel and looked at the huge world map on it, where countless energy dots were still flashing.

Sun Jiuchou's gaze swept across the map, as if he were calculating something.

A moment later, he stretched out his finger and gently tapped another energy point closest to the Mariana Trench.

A new set of coordinates was entered into the Abyss's navigation system.

After doing all this, he sat back in the driver's seat and placed his hands back on the console.

"The mission still needs to be carried out."

He gazed at the endless darkness outside the porthole and murmured softly.

"From now on, I'll do it all by myself."
