Chapter 19 He Can't Even Be a Man

Chapter 19 He Can't Even Be a Man

"What happened? How did you fall into the ditch?" Tiedan's mother hurried over and pulled Tiedan out of the ditch.

Tiedan's lips were frozen purple, his clothes were soaked, and he cried out of breath: "Wuwuwu... Mom, I'm cold, so cold, my butt hurts."

"It was Erniu! It was Erniu who pushed the iron egg into the ditch!" a boy shouted.

Tiedan Niang's face instantly turned dark, and she roughly pulled Wang Erniu who was standing behind her. Her force was so great that Wang Erniu lost his balance and fell to the ground.

"Why is it him again? He always stirs up trouble. I don't know how Chunniang taught him."

"Like father, like son. His father dared to kill people, so of course he won't learn good things. You see, he might become a nuisance again in the future."

The women who came over bowed their heads wantonly, their faces full of disgust and contempt.

Some people even called their own children over and scolded them loudly, telling them to stay away from Wang Erniu in the future to avoid learning bad habits from him.

This had nothing to do with Liang Jinyu, and she had no intention of meddling in it.

But when she saw Wang Erniu being slapped by Tiedan Niang, her feet seemed to be filled with lead and she couldn't move at all.

Even when Dani's mouth was pulled, she still managed to resist and curse, but Wang Erniu said nothing. His eyes were red but not a single tear was shed.

"You little bastard who was born by a father but not taught by his father. If anything happens to my Tiedan, I will skin you alive!" Tiedan's mother grabbed Erniu's hair and pushed him into the ditch.

Erniu stumbled and sat down on it, splashing mud and water. The children nearby were so scared that they screamed and ran away.

"Forget it, Tiedan's mother. You should take your Tiedan home to change his clothes as soon as possible, so as not to freeze the child." A woman advised.

Tiedan’s mother picked up Tiedan with a distressed look on her face, said hello to everyone and went home.

"Mrs. Liang, come on, let's go upstairs and warm ourselves by the fire." The woman next to her bumped into Liang Jinyu's shoulder and said jokingly.

Liang Jinyu smiled and said, "No, I still have work to do at home. You guys go ahead."

Everyone was not familiar with Liang Jinyu, so they just let it go when they saw that she was unwilling.

Puff——

Wang Erniu stood up tremblingly but fell back in again. His chin hit the stone and blood gushed out instantly.

Liang Jinyu sighed softly, walked over and stretched out her hand, saying, "I'll pull you up."

Wang Erniu seemed not to hear and continued to climb up by grabbing the weeds.

It was so cold that the river was frozen. Wang Erniu's lips turned purple and his fingers were stiff. He tried several times but failed to climb out.

Liang Jinyu is not a cruel person, and he is just a child.

"Don't bother, I'll pull you up." Liang Jinyu grabbed Wang Erniu's arm forcefully and dragged him up regardless of his struggle.

Wang Erniu was so frozen that he curled up on the ground, his upper and lower teeth chattering against each other, making a "click-click-click" sound, and he didn't get up for a long time.

"Can you still walk?" Liang Jinyu asked worriedly.

When Wang Erniu heard the sound, he struggled to stand up, supporting himself with his shoulders. Water kept dripping from his hair and clothes, making him look like a wet water ghost.

"Your chin is badly injured. Go back and ask your mother to use some wood ash to stop the bleeding. Use this to cover it first." Liang Jinyu took out a handkerchief and covered his chin.

Wang Erniu's brain was probably frozen, and he turned and walked away without even noticing Liang Jinyu. He walked very slowly, leaving wet footprints with every step.

Liang Jinyu watched him walk around the dam and towards his home, and then she breathed a sigh of relief.

...

When I got home, Wang hadn't gotten up yet.

Dani moved the vegetable jar under the eaves and was roasting some chestnuts, which she got from somewhere, over the charcoal fire.

Seeing Liang Jinyu coming back, he was not stingy and gave her one.

"I fed the chickens and ducks, but not the pigs. There's no pig food left." Dani said vaguely with her cheeks puffed out.

Liang Jinyu nodded and glanced into the room: "Did your grandma ask me?"

Chen Dani shook her head and complained quietly: "She sleeps like a pig. She is the most comfortable in the family. She doesn't have to do anything."

"That's good too. If she doesn't get up, we can all have some peace and quiet." Liang Jinyu thought positively and went to the kitchen to get a basket.

Although there was only one pig at home, it ate a lot, so we had to cook a pot of pig food every two days.

As it was cold and there were no wild vegetables to be found, Liang Jinyu could only go to the fields and pick some radishes.

Chen Dani was bored and followed him immediately: "I'll help you."

There was a thick layer of snow in the vegetable patch, with only a few radish leaves sticking out.

"Ouch." Chen Dani failed to pull out the radish and fell on her butt instead.

Liang Jinyu smiled and said, "The soil is frozen, it's hard to clean. Go back to the house and get me a hoe."

Chen Dani clapped her hands, threw the torn radish leaves into the basket, and complained quietly, "It's freezing. We won't get any pork anyway, so I'd rather just ignore it."

"Okay, hurry up, it might snow again later." Liang Jinyu urged.

Chen Dani curled her lips and resigned herself to going back to get the hoe.

The wind was blowing, and it felt like a knife cutting my face, it hurt.

Liang Jinyu struggled to pull out three radishes, but had no choice but to give up.

"We won't be able to eat these until next spring." Liang Jinyu muttered as she looked at the remaining radishes.

The Chen family’s vegetable garden is not small, but unfortunately it is not well maintained and half of it is abandoned. The remaining half is almost all radishes and cabbages, but other vegetables probably won’t last until winter.

"It seems we have to hurry up." Liang Jinyu murmured.

"What do you mean by making good use of time?" Chen Dani came over dragging a hoe.

Liang Jinyu walked over and took the hoe. She glanced at Chen Dani's red nose and said nonchalantly, "Dani, do you think your mother treats you well?"

Chen Dani rubbed her cheeks, lowered her head and said awkwardly, "It's OK."

"If one day I can leave here, do you want to go with me?" Liang Jinyu asked, and dug out two large carrots with a hoe.

Chen Dani frowned, picked up the carrots and threw them into the basket: "I don't want to."

Liang Jinyu stopped and asked in confusion: "Why? Are you worried that you will have a hard life following me?"

"You are not my biological mother, why should I go with you?"

Chen Dani said without hesitation, but she was thinking in her heart, stop dreaming, you can't leave at all, your fate has already been determined.

Liang Jinyu's expression changed slightly, remembering that Dani had said that she was a book traveler.

She seemed to know the ending of everyone, but unfortunately she died early in her previous life and could not verify it.

But since Dani knows, it doesn't hurt to ask her, just to be mentally prepared.

Liang Jinyu thought for a moment and said tentatively: "Even if we are not related by blood, I will still treat you as my own daughter. And your uncle has been very smart since he was young. He might even be able to become an official in the future. Then you will be a daughter of an official family."

Chen Dani couldn't help laughing out loud, then quickly covered her mouth.

[He was not even qualified to be a man. A eunuch wanted to control the government, no wonder he was buried alive in the end.]

The hoe in Liang Jinyu's hand suddenly fell to the ground and hit Chen Dani's foot.

Chen Dani cried out "Ouch!" and staggered back, holding her foot. "What are you doing? It hurts so much."

"You said Ding Fang finally..." Liang Jinyu stopped talking halfway, shook his head, and looked dazed, "Impossible, how could he..."
